Job description

Help create a world free of MSA.

The Multiple System Atrophy Trust is the UK’s leading charity supporting people affected by multiple system atrophy (MSA), a rare neurological disease with no known cause or cure.

At the Multiple System Atrophy Trust, our ambition is clear: a world free of MSA. Until the cause and cure are found, we are here for everyone affected by multiple system atrophy, offering expert support, trusted information and a strong, compassionate community so that no one has to face this rare neurological disease alone.

Why our work matters

MSA is a progressive neurological disorder that can affect movement, balance and vital autonomic functions, including bladder and blood pressure control. There is currently no known cause or cure, but the right specialist support, practical guidance and human connection can transform how people experience life with MSA.

Support, connection and hope

Across the UK and Ireland, our telephone and email support line, eight specialist MSA nurses and two social welfare specialists provide expert help when it matters most. Our regional and online support groups, introductory webinars, research updates, coffee mornings and carers’ groups create connection, share knowledge and reduce isolation. At the same time, we fund research to uncover the cause of MSA and move us closer to a cure.

You will join a supportive, collaborative and values-led charity where ideas are welcomed, relationships matter and every contribution helps improve lives. Could you unite communities, create unforgettable fundraising experiences and turn people’s passion into lasting impact for everyone affected by MSA?

The Trust has seven core values; we aspire to be:

  • Led by those we serve: we strive to put those we serve at the heart of everything we do
  • Collaborative: we will work collaboratively when this is in the best interests of those we serve and the Trust
  • Supportive: we exist to support people affected by MSA throughout their journey; we are on their side, and we want them to know and feel this
  • Open: we want to be open and welcoming to everyone affected by MSA who contacts us
  • Respectful: our ethos is to critique not to criticise
  • Committed: everyone who is involved with the Trust should be committed to doing what they can, in whatever capacity, to improve the lives of people affected by MSA
  • Informative: we want to inform and be honest and transparent about what we say and what we do.

Position: Senior Events and Community Fundraising Officer

Reports to: Director of Operations and Research

Location: Hybrid with a minimum of 3 days/week in our London (N1) office and 2 days from home

Hours: 35 hours per week (full-time), core hours of 9am – 5pm

Salary: Salary: circa £35,000

About the Role

As our Senior Events and Community Fundraising Officer, you will be at the heart of that ambition. You will lead inspiring events, enable supporters to bring their fundraising ideas to life and build lasting community partnerships. By growing income, participation and awareness, you will help sustain vital services today while bringing us closer to a future free of MSA.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Inspiring people to take part, and stay involved, across our challenge events and community fundraising activities, with thoughtful stewardship at every stage.
  • Creating standout awareness and fundraising campaigns that deepen understanding of MSA, spark action and grow the Trust’s reach.
  • Bringing our fundraising story to life across social media and digital channels to engage new audiences and strengthen supporter connections.
  • Building trusted, lasting relationships with supporters, volunteers and community partners, and helping their ideas and enthusiasm flourish.
  • Shaping the next chapter of Sarah's Wood as a distinctive place for community, remembrance and meaningful engagement.
  • Helping turn the Trust’s communications and fundraising ambitions into coordinated, high-impact activity.
  • Supporting and developing the Fundraising Officer through encouraging supervision that builds confidence, skills and potential.

This job is for you if...

  • You enjoy building meaningful relationships and can engage, motivate and inspire supporters, volunteers and community partners.
  • You have experience delivering community fundraising, events fundraising, supporter engagement, or similar relationship-based activities.
  • You are confident creating engaging digital content and using social media and online platforms to connect with audiences.
  • You are organised, proactive and able to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines successfully.
  • You are motivated by achieving targets and can use insight and feedback to improve performance and engagement.
  • You are passionate about making a difference and want to improve the lives of people affected by MSA.
  • You are warm, approachable and empathetic, and can provide an excellent experience for everyone who engages with the charity.
  • You are self-motivated, solutions-focused and adaptable, with a positive attitude and willingness to get involved wherever needed.

It's a bonus to us if...

  • You have experience in the charity sector, particularly within health, disability or rare disease organisations.
  • You have experience supervising staff or volunteers.
  • You have used a CRM database such as Raiser's Edge.
  • You have delivered awareness campaigns or community engagement programmes.

  1. Flexible and hybrid working: We take a flexible approach to how and where work is delivered, with hybrid working arrangements and opportunities to work remotely. We also offer limited opportunities to work from abroad where operationally appropriate.
  2. Annual leave: We offer 33 days of annual leave, including bank holidays, plus an additional day's leave to celebrate your birthday. Annual leave entitlement also increases with length of service.
  3. Pension scheme: We provide a 6% employer pension contribution and access to salary sacrifice schemes to help you plan for the future.
  4. Life assurance: Eligible employees are covered by our Death in Service benefit, providing a payment of three times annual salary.
  5. Long-service recognition: We value commitment and dedication, offering additional benefits including long-service sabbatical opportunities.
  6. Eye care support: We offer free eye tests and a contribution towards the cost of glasses where required for work-related screen use.
  7. Volunteering and wellbeing: We support colleagues to give back through volunteering opportunities and provide paid time off to attend blood donation appointments.
  8. Team connection: We believe strong teams achieve great things. That's why we invest in an annual team away day, regular social activities and a staff social fund.
  9. Time off in lieu: We recognise that some roles occasionally require work outside normal hours and offer TOIL for approved additional time worked.
  10. Learning and development: We are committed to helping our people grow, providing opportunities for learning, professional development and career progression within a supportive charity environment.

Our commitment to Equality, diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those from underrepresented groups, including minoritised communities and disabled people.

At MSA Trust, we believe that diversity strengthens our organisation. By bringing together people with different perspectives, experiences and skills, we foster innovation, improve decision-making and enhance our ability to support the communities we serve.
