Due to three of our client's current Board members stepping down from their positions following completion of their six-year terms, they are looking to fill three vacancies on their Board with individuals who can strengthen their existing skills-based Board by bringing high level knowledge and experience in one or more of the below key areas:

• Treasury and Corporate Finance (strategy and funding options)
• Environmental (green agenda / achieving net zero carbon)
• Strategic IT and Data (using data effectively)

The successful applicant will be a member of their Board and a member of one or more of the following committees:

• Audit and Risk
• Board Effectiveness and People
• Customer Assurance

The successful applicants will be appointed at the July Board meeting however term of office will commence in September 2024. The Board typically meet online however there are approximately four in person meetings a year, which also include overnight stays

As a full Board Member, the remuneration is £5,577 p.a. plus reasonable expenses.

Summary of Role

• Developing strategies to evolve our Community of Practice, encouraging members to actively participate.
• Strategise and lead the development of an active and effective professionals' groups within the Community to enhance Association engagement.

• Guiding projects that involve Community members in developing resources and aids to practice, aligning with the NICE guideline.

This role is key to Alzheimer’s Society’s ambitions to drive major, and positive, change at a national level particularly across Wales at an exciting time in dementia policy. 
 
The National Influencing Manager will play a central role in ensuring what the Society thinks about the big issues affecting people affected by dementia is acted upon by national decision makers. We're looking for a highly motivated and skilled Business Development Manager with a passion for relationship building and service sales. Someone who can actively engage and work with our existing client portfolio and win new business through formal tendering opportunities to ensure VoiceAbility remains a provider of choice.

In this new role, you will sit in the Business and Strategy directorate working proactively with external stakeholders and colleagues from across the organisation to ensure that we grow our portfolio of contracts, re-win existing business and advise clients of new services. You will be doing a mixture of new business sales and account management of existing services.

This position is a full-time, 35 hours a week, permanent contract with a starting salary between £39,000 - £46,500 per annum depending on skills and experience. We are open to a conversation about flexible working or job sharing. Whilst the role is home-based, some travel for meetings and events will be required.

How will you make a difference?

Through your commercial management expertise, you will win new business and ensure the retention of existing contracts. You will proactively manage your own workload, balancing known pipeline opportunities, acquiring, building and fostering relationships with stakeholders, collaborating with internal teams to craft winning proposals, and making the most of the new business opportunities open to us to ensure commercial success.

About you

You will have a minimum of two years experience of working in a Commercial Management, Account Management or Business Development role.

Have proven success in winning business through formal competitive tendering, ideally with central/ local government, by developing a credible position and clear convincing material and data.

You will have experience of working in an agile environment to respond to external factors that are likely to change at short-notice.

Experienced in stakeholder engagement and influencing both externally and internally, you will be a trusted partner to those who know you.

Context of the role.

The successful candidate will be guided by the Communications & Fundraising Officer to communicate the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers and demonstrate the impact of Upbeat Communities to our supporters and followers, as well as to new audiences. They will have a positive attitude and love communicating what we do as a charity.

The role can mostly be done remotely; however, it will be required for the candidate to travel to our base in Derby a minimum of 1 day a week to stay connected to the team, and for team meetings and training as and when they occur.

Upbeat Communities was founded in response to the needs of refugees arriving in the UK and the stories they shared of their lives and their journeys. Through building relationships with those from refugee communities we were able to identify their needs and the best ways to respond.

One of the best resources a refugee can have to help them settle in their new home is a good social network. Relationships and connectedness can help overcome the many challenges faced by those seeking refuge. With this aim, we want to help connect refugees into community.

We greet new arrivals with our Welcome Boxes befriending project. We offer free English classes and community activities to help refugees (adults and children) integrate. We empower refugees to rebuild their lives through Host Derby (temporary accommodation), mentoring (careers guidance) and the UK Refugee Resettlement Scheme, which local authorities contract us to deliver. We also empower the local community through awareness raising.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Content creation

•  Creating written and visual content for social media and our website.
• Finding useful resources, articles, and news to be shared on our website, blog and social media.

Social media and website

•  Day-to-day management of Upbeat’s social media accounts including creating and scheduling content, replying to messages, and interacting with followers.
•  Updating the website with relevant images, statistics, and news.

Supporter stewardship

• Following Upbeat’s donations process, ensure donors are thanked in an appropriate and timely manner, and that all communications are logged on to our database (Donorfy).
• Researching local fundraising or awareness-raising opportunities and events.

Other

• Working with Upbeat’s Communications & Fundraising Officer on larger-scale fundraising campaigns throughout the year, as well as the communication of these campaigns.
• Making an active contribution to the overall work of Upbeat Communities through team meetings, staff training, awareness and fundraising events, and any other appropriate activities.
