Chefs in Schools is a young, ambitious charity that’s rapidly growing. Our mission is to improve kids' health, through improving school food & food education. Working in areas of high deprivation, we support and train schools and their kitchen teams to serve the best, freshest and tastiest food possible, alongside meaningful food education. About you and the role

This is a pivotal role, at a pivotal moment for us. We are entering a critical growth phase, which includes rapidly expanding our own operations and managing significant external partnership. As Head of Finance & Systems, you will be accountable for ensuring we have the right systems and structures in place to grow at pace without detriment to good governance.

The purpose of this role is to lead on our finance strategy, and ensure all of our systems, reporting and processes are helping to drive forward the charity and deliver on our objectives at scale. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and Directors to ensure that financial planning is effective and supported by accurate data analysis. You will report directly to Trustees as required and ensure that the highest standards of transparency and probity are maintained. 

You will be joining the team during a period of growth in the size and complexity of our delivery. We currently have 24 employees and anticipate growing significantly in the next twelve months. You will have a crucial role in shaping our systems and processes to ensure we can scale effectively, both our existing programmes and a new membership-based programme that is in development. We’re looking for an experienced finance professional with an interest in effectively using technology and systems to drive efficiency, without compromising on accuracy or compliance. 

You will oversee all financial administration, ensuring this is carried out proficiently and in line with all legal and regulatory requirements, including ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all statutory filings are made accurately and on time. Your role will also encompass ensuring that we operate within legal & regulatory frameworks and stay up to date with changes in relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities:

• Developing a comprehensive financial strategy that supports the delivery of the charity’s objectives and activities

• Developing our systems strategy, including reviewing suitability of our current systems (Quickbooks for accountancy, Beacon CRM, PLEO for expenses management, Survey Monkey for data collection etc. ) and ensuring optimal use of systems, maximising automation, and using AI where appropriate.

• Constantly seeking to develop and improve the organisation’s financial systems, policies and procedures to promote dynamic, best practice and up-to-date application of tools, systems and approaches

• Leading and developing the Finance and Office Manager and ensuring effective support from the external book-keeping team.

• Lead on creation of the annual budget, working closely with Directors.

• Advising the Chief Executive, team and Trustees, ensuring that benefits and risks of decisions are fully considered and fit with the overall financial strategy

• Oversee sound financial administration, management and governance across the organisation, ensuring robust financial controls in place and operating effectively.

• Provide leadership and guidance to all things finance related, providing mentoring and support to the team, and coaching on financial awareness. 

• Accountability for monitoring that the organisation’s services are, and will, run to budget, supporting budget holders and reporting promptly on risks 

• Have ultimate oversight of the external audit and production of the statutory accounts, supported in delivery of this by the Finance & Office Manager

• Oversee production of management accounts and bespoke financial reports, including accurate forecasting, incisive analysis and accessible narrative commentary, ensuring decision-makers have the information they need. 

• Forecasting cash flow and managing the treasury position.

• Support the Partnerships & Impact team and Programme Managers with financial inputs to funding proposals and ensure restricted funds are used in compliance with grant conditions.

• Oversight of finance, governance and basic HR administration, supporting the Finance and Office Manager with high profile or complex queries, seeking specialist advice on financial or compliance matters as required

• Ensuring GDPR compliance across the organisation

• Leading an effective risk management process.

• Ensuring the organisation’s compliance with charity law, in accordance with the Charity Commission in England & Wales and all financial reporting requirements.

Skills & experience:

• You have interest and belief in our mission, to improve kids’ health through improving food and food education in schools

• You have full or partial qualification through an accredited accountancy body 

• You have experience in a senior finance role (e.g., Director, Head of) in any sector, and some experience within a finance function in the 3rd sector (in particular familiarity with Charities SORP and experience of administering restricted funds).

• You have experience of audit

• You enjoy a mix of leadership and rolling up sleeves to get hands on 

• You take a pragmatic and dynamic approach to robust financial management

• You can turn complex and dry data, into clear and engaging narrative 

• You have project managed the implementation of new systems (accountancy / CRM / data) and have a good awareness of new technologies

Job Title: Money & Energy Adviser

Reports to: Money & Energy Advice Service Lead

Location:

Home based – one post

Home based with travel across the South West region as required – one post.

Hours: 35 hpw (full time) Monday to Friday. Hours to be agreed with successful candidate. Must be sufficiently flexible to work irregular hours as demanded by the requirements of the post

Contract: Full fixed term contract, ending 31 March 2026. Extension subject securing future funding.

Salary: 35 hpw £27,600 pa

(plus expenses, pension, and generous annual leave)

To deliver money and energy advice service for kidney patients struggling with their energy and water bills and other costs of living challenges. You will provide subject matter expert support within our Patient Support Services team, and will work closely with our Patient Support & Advocacy Officers to develop and grow this service in your area.

Summary
To raise awareness of the service and build strong relationships with kidney patients, professionals, and other kidney stakeholder groups in your defined geographic region.

Key responsibilities
• With support, establish the Kidney Care UK Money & Energy Advice Service in the region for patients and carers at risk of fuel poverty to access independent support on money and energy matters
• Responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Money & Energy Advice Service across the region, effectively managing an ongoing caseload
• Provide practical advice to patients, assessing their needs and identifying sources of support to resolve financial, practical and psychosocial challenges.

• Activities will include creating budget plans, completing income maximisation checks and benefit claims, carrying out switching exercises and Home Energy Surveys (this is not an exclusive list of tasks)
• Responsible for identifying cases where FSA approved advice is required, and supporting patients in the referral of their case to our approved partner organisation or other appropriate regional/national services

• Act as a gateway to local information and access to:

• Kidney Care UK Patient Grants service, raising awareness of the service and supporting applications
• Kidney Care UK Patient Support & Advocacy Service, to ensure patients have access to reliable and accurate patient information relating to kidney disease, patient pathways, models of care, and patient choice

Job title: Operations Manager

OPERATIONS MANAGER - ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operations Manager is a key support for the church’s leadership and heads the staff team providing management over key operational and missional areas of the church’s activities.

This leadership role supports the ethos and ministries of the church and its mission to be a church for the community - discovering Jesus, sharing God’s love, and caring for those in need.

A vital aim for our church’s work in the local community is that our staff relationships, our Venue ministry, our Christian hospitality and how we use and share our building should all reflect God’s character - showing compassion, generosity, and kindness.

The role has a lot of different components, so we’re looking for someone who sees all aspects of this job as an expression of the church’s mission to proclaim the Good News and will facilitate and serve the congregation, the staff and the volunteer teams as they creatively explore ways to express our Christian ethos through the life and ministries of the church. This therefore requires that they are someone who has a mature Christian faith.

They will need to be a “servant“ leader who is mentally agile, energetic, able to schedule and prioritise, a good delegator, a team player, a quick learner and capable of taking initiatives, with a healthy understanding of self-care - we’re not looking for a “hero”, but someone who can work sustainability.

Leadership:

• Work closely with the church leadership team to support the trustees, staff and congregation in the development of church vision, ethos, mission and ministries.
• Create a positive, Christian work environment, and cultivate supportive team working relationships and working practices that align with the church’s mission.
• Lead the staff team, providing effective leadership, management, administration, recruitment, and staff development. Facilitate the team as they represent the church’s values in the day-to-day open house ministries of the church.
• The Operations Manager must be able to represent the church and the church’s Christian ethos in the absence of the Minister.

Building Management:

• Support and develop initiatives that enable every aspect of the building's use, welcome and presentation to be missional.
• Provide effective management, administration, organisation, maintenance, and development of the WGC church buildings and equipment.
• Coordinate with the Estate Manager to develop long-term maintenance plans for the common parts areas of the building.
• Provide the Trustees with regular building management reports.

Compliance and Legal Administration:

• The maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment.
• Safeguarding, equality and inclusion.
• HR matters including safe recruitment, induction, training and employee development.

• Matters relating to Westbourne Grove CIO charity’s Trust Deeds, Constitution and Church Rules, and leasehold responsibilities.
• Requirements as a registered charity (CIO) including timely submission of reports to the Charity Commission.
• Develop and implement policies, risk assessments and safe working procedures and keep them regularly updated and reviewed. Ensure policies and safe working practices are adhered to.
• Provide adequate information, training and supervision to ensure employees and volunteers are competent to do their work.
• Lead in communications with the freeholder, the management company, the estate manager, and church tenants. Oversee any necessary legal input for decision-making and work closely with the WGC Trustees, and external organisations on decisions relating to the common parts of the building.
• Keep administrative records. Provide reports for the Trustees.

Administrative Services and Support:

• Provide administrative support for the Ministers. Develop and maintain administrative, organisational, communications systems and record keeping procedures for the church’s general administration. Maintain membership and constitutional records.
• Administrate the church's IT infrastructure, broadband, phone systems, and utilities accounts and ensure they meet the operational needs of the building and its ministries.
• Assist the Venue Manager to develop and maintain suitable and effective systems, strategy, pricing, communications, contract management, staffing and customer relations.
• Develop the church’s visibility and profile in the community using the church’s website, social media, ArtSpace, and missional displays and exhibitions, ensuring these align with the church’s ethos and mission.

Financial Oversight:

• Oversee provision of financial management information to Leadership team and Trustees, including budgeting, salaries, financial reports, end-of-year statements. Support them in developing financial strategies and policies.
• Oversee the accurate functioning of church financial systems, controls and procedures. Monitor and administrate reserves and investments.
• Ensure WGC's financial practices comply with UK charity regulations. Assist with the filing of the accounts and annual report to the Charity Commission.

Provide financial oversight, management, and support for:

• Venue ministry finances, pricing and strategy
• Finance Administration - ensure all financial records, payroll, pension administration, invoices, and reports are accurate and timely. Authorise payments.
• Manage the buildings budget including liaising with the Estate Manager regarding common parts expenditure.
• Financial interactions with lease and licence holders including new leases, rent reviews, break clauses and lease renewals, insurance contributions.

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE

Candidates should be able to demonstrate either experience in the following areas of responsibility and/or the skills needed to carry out these responsibilities.

Preferred leadership experience – preferably in a church or other Christian organisation:

• Understanding of the church and charitable sector.
• Leading and managing projects of a diverse and complex nature in a team-oriented workplace and of delivering operational excellence in challenging environments.

• Technical experience required for effective team working, including email, online meeting forums, and shared calendars and drives. Proficient in the use of Office 365 suite including Word and Excel.
• Experience in the use of websites and social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook to promote public awareness. Experience in the use of Square Space, Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, to produce website and social media content, and for graphic design of posters, church displays and exhibition materials.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the work environment.
• Holds a UK driving licence.

The Programme Manager role

About the Service

We are seeking a Volunteer & Service User Involvement Administrator to play a vital role in supporting the implementation of our 5-year strategy, which places service user involvement and volunteering at its core. This role is key to ensuring that the voices of service users, volunteers, and women with lived experience of VAWG are actively captured, organised, and integrated into the development of our services, operational activities, and strategic direction.

About the Role

The key responsibilities of the Service User Involvement Administrator are:

• Provide high-quality administrative support to the Volunteer & Service User Involevment Coordinator across all areas of service user and volunteer engagement.
• Support the recruitment, onboarding, and exit processes for volunteers and service user involvement activities, including processing DBS checks, references, and welcome packs.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on volunteer and service user engagement databases and spreadsheets.
• Prepare agenda’s, correspondence, newsletters, and recruitment materials as required.
• Assist in planning and coordinating events, focus groups, training sessions, consultations, and board meetings.
• Manage invitations, bookings, and logistics for internal and external meetings or workshops involving volunteers and service users.
• Take and circulate clear and concise minutes and action points.
• Draft and disseminate regular communications, including newsletters, reminders, surveys and feedback forms.
• Ensure information is accessible and aligned with Solace’s inclusive and psychologically informed frameworks.
• Manage the inbox of service user involvement and volunteer queries and escalate as necessary.
• Ensure all volunteer and service user information is managed confidentially and in line with Data Protection regulations.
• Keep volunteer and service user training, DBS, and participation records up to date.
• Support in monitoring engagement levels and preparing basic reports or summaries on SUI and volunteering.

About You

To be successful in the role of Volunteer & Service User Involvement Administrator you will be motivated, pro-active and supportive, with a strong commitment to person-centred work, volunteering and service user involvement, you will also need to bring with you the following skills and experience:

• Actively engage service users to contribute to the enhancement of service delivery
• Collaborate closely with the Service User Involvement and Volunteering Coordinator to support services in strengthening their approaches to service user involvement and co-production
• Assist the Coordinator in facilitating inclusive and effective volunteering recruitment processes
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to connect with diverse individuals across a range of settings
