We are looking for an energetic Immigration Adviser (OISC L1 essential, L2 desirable) for an exciting position providing immigration advice to individuals in Asylum Support hotels in Islington.
The project is delivered through funding from Islington Local Authority and will will include advice and casework for residents of two Asylum Support hotels in the borough. The project was initially funded to respond to an urgent need for specialist legal advice to assist with asylum questionnaires and has since expanded to support with a range of different advice issues including reinstatement of asylum claims, Asylum Support challenges and appeals work.
The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of the issues faced by migrants at risk and refugees/asylum seekers. They will have a good understanding of the challenges faced by those navigating the UK asylum system. They will have experience and a commitment to supporting migrants at risk in need of immigration advice. They will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a range of stakeholders.

You will support victims of domestic abuse within the Stockport Borough offering a person centred and trauma informed package of support and advocacy.
The role
In this role you will complete risk and needs assessments with victims of domestic abuse who live in the borough of Stockport. You will liaise with referring agencies, actively contribute to risk management procedures and team working. You will carry out a large and varied range of practical support which may include safety planning, advocacy, risk assessment and risk management. We also offer emotional support to those people we work with, encouraging and supporting them to rebuild lost confidence and self-esteem. Right now, we are looking for a Peer Support Worker to join the team at Horsham. Our Peer Support service offers both intensive and low key peer support services. We support people who are going through a difficult time, by sharing our experiences, helping them discover the strengths and developing skills that will lead to wellness. Day-to-day, you’ll work with the team leaders, peer support volunteers and the people who use our services to develop an inclusive and effective peer support service, offering individual and group support. That means you will be working alongside colleagues who have personal experience of using mental health services to help others on their own recovery journey. You will help to contribute to the development of organisational policies, procedures, protocols, systems and guidance to underpin the provision of peer support across the organisation. Identifying and undertaking training programmes, promoting the service to stakeholders and operating within a fully compliant service to agreed budgets – all are part and parcel of this challenging role.
To succeed, you’ll need a good understanding of the recovery and personalisation agenda and the principles and practice on which mental health services are run. You must have a proven ability to consult, liaise and work collaboratively with a team of colleagues and a wide range of external organisations and a flexible approach to working hours. You will be well-organised and self-motivated; good problem-solving and decision-making skills are essential, as is an innate ability to cope with personal stress.

Role Overview
As a Lead Literacy Workshop Facilitator, you will deliver dynamic literacy workshops to children and young people in East London schools. Working closely with our communities and delivery lead, you'll create a supportive learning environment and tailor workshops to meet the unique needs of participants.

Established in 2013, the United Kingdom and Europe World Literacy Foundation have been dedicated to building strong communities through literacy and education. In 2018, UK Reads was introduced to provide literacy support through distributing books and resources nationwide while delivering author-led workshops to children to inspire the next generation of readers who lacked resources and opportunities to develop and excel. Additionally, UK Reads works to facilitate a global pen pal project, inspiring young writers and offering them a platform to connect, fostering cultural awareness and enhancing writing skills.
About the Project
UK Reads: Literacy Impact East London specifically focus on children and young people aged 11-18 years. The project is designed to reach young people from diverse, low-income backgrounds and ethnic minorities. We have observed that approximately 85% of our beneficiaries come from low-income families, 10% of our users are students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), reflecting the diverse range of learners we aim to support. Additionally, 45% of our beneficiaries come from Black minority communities, highlighting the importance of promoting inclusivity and addressing potential disparities in literacy outcomes.
We acknowledge that low literacy rates often vary through boroughs and are committed to reaching the most underserved, underrepresented, and marginalised young people across East London. We collaborate with schools and community organisations to implement a tailored intervention that addresses the specific needs of each group, offering a diverse range of services to expedite the development of foundational literacy skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging literacy workshops in schools, fostering a safe and collaborative learning environment.
- Lead workshops, ensuring participants actively engage in literacy activities and get the most out of the experience.
- Tailor workshops to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Encourage and motivate participants to enhance their literacy skills and confidence.
- Support the delivery lead in setting up activities and managing logistics for smooth workshop operations.
- Implement workshop activities safely and professionally.
- Collaborate with school staff to customise workshops and identify areas for improvement.
- Attend monthly virtual check-ins with the delivery lead.
Requirements
- Previous experience delivering workshops or in an education setting

Location: Hybrid. The post holder will be contractually based at Hospice House,Kings cross London. This role is eligible for the Hospice UK Hybrid Working Arrangement from the start of employment.
Our office is a short walk from King’s Cross station in London. For this role, we need someone to come into the office at least one day a week, on a Tuesday. A day where all of Income Generation come into the office. You can work remotely for the rest of the time. Equally, you may prefer to work from the office full-time. We encourage all colleagues to visit member hospices to help inform our work and you may be able to work from there.

What can you bring to the team….?

- Good communication and interpersonal skills. You’ll be expected to liaise with other staff, parents/carers, and professionals.
- An ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team, taking the lead when required, maintaining & encouraging open and honest communication.
- A good standard of written English and IT skills would be essential, you will be writing reports and keep record of the Children and Young Peoples progress.
- Transporting children / young people to an activity or school is a requirement. A driving licence that has been held for 12 months would be desirable.
- If you don’t have direct experience of working with children maybe you have transferrable skills to bring to the role.

As Project Manager, you will oversee the development and implementation of care plans designed to provide meaningful choice and a range of activities and support to meet individual needs. You will also contribute to the development of the team and be responsible for encouraging a culture based on respect and dignity for those in need of care and support, providing supervision and clear management to a team of support workers.
The ideal candidate will have experience of leading and coaching a team supporting people with learning disabilities or another vulnerable client group. Experience of supporting people with high and complex support needs would be an advantage.
