Summary

The Vision and Strategy Team at the National Church Institutions are looking to hire a Monitoring and Evaluation Lead to join their fast growing team. The purpose of this role is to oversee the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the SMMI grant-making programme to support the delivery of the Church of England's Vision and Strategy. Working with dioceses, external partner organisations and colleagues across the Vision and Strategy team, the postholder will build capacity around implementing M&E good practice for funded programmes and beyond, to ensure effective programme design, monitoring of performance, gathering of information and supporting the release of lessons learned to catalyse wider change within the Church.

The postholder will set M&E policies and direction working closely with their line manager (Head of Grants). They will manage one line report (Monitoring and Evaluation Operations Manager) that will be responsible for ensuring evaluations are effectively undertaken by external evaluators and delivering a limited set of evaluations and mid-term reviews.

The role is critical in providing trustees full confidence in the use of funding and its impact through monitoring and evaluation. This is a strategically important role, as it directly consolidates emerging learning to further support the Church's Vision and Strategy.

About the Department/Role

The Vision and Strategy Team has been established to support the whole Church in its embrace of and engagement with the national Vision and Strategy for the Church for the 2020s, and to support the implementation of the Emerging Church programme. The Vision and Strategy has three strategic priorities: to be a church of missionary disciples, to be younger and more diverse, and to develop a mixed ecology - doing church in varied forms and settings.

The Vision and Strategy team consults on and the Funding and Learning sub-team manages one of the largest grant-making programmes in the country, with £100m + of Strategic Mission and Ministry Investment (SMMI) disbursed annually to support the Church's mission and ministry across England, prioritising investment in the most deprived communities. The SMMI funding includes the Diocesan Investment Programme (DIP) which provides funding for dioceses to enable the bold outcomes and strategic priorities of the Vision & Strategy to become a reality in parishes and communities through programme funding, and smaller Capacity grants. The SMMI funding also includes the People and Partnerships Funding, awarded to partners and networks to help overcome national challenges, by scaling up successful work or innovating, to better support the local church in delivering the Vision & Strategy bold outcomes, and the Lowest Income Communities Funding to sustain and strengthen the Church's mission with low income and deprived communities.

What you'll be doing

• Responsible for the overall approach to M&E to both support the impact and assessment of SMMI funded projects and programmes.
• Develop the pool of evaluators used for baselining and evaluations, owning relationships and ensuring new contractors have synergy and sympathy with the Church of England's ways of working.
• Forward plan overall M&E work and oversee reviews of specific streams of funding and ensure the effective gathering of independent feedback from grantees.
• Work closely with the Head of Grants to make sense of the evaluations emerging in terms of overall Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning strategy and cost-effective use of budget

What could my day look like?

The Education Worker role is a frontline, fast-paced and rewarding role where no two weeks will look the same. A typical day will have different activities, possibly spread between the IntoUniversity centre, partner schools and the offices of a corporate partner.

In the morning, you might be setting off with resources to run a workshop for sixth-form students in their secondary school. We are currently looking for an OTW Project Assistant who will support the delivery of the On The Water project at one of our boating stations in London. The project provides young people from outside Sea Cadets, age 9-14, the opportunity to get on the water, learn new skills and build confidence through boating activity. This is a very varied and rewarding role that requires someone who is self-motivated, inspiring, organised, creative, tenacious, positive, IT competent and with a real interest in people with a attention to detail and real enthusiasm for the project.

Project delivery takes place between 29 July 2024 and 30 August 2025 when the young people will be attending boating sessions. During this busy time the Project Assistant will be based at the boat station each day to complete registration, manage group change overs, track project targets, encourage survey completion and fill booking gaps. Prior to delivery the role will be focused on supporting the booking process and engaging in community outreach. Once delivery is complete, the Project Assistant role will then predominantly be supporting the evaluation and data collection as well as supporting participants to join their local Sea Cadet unit.

• Collecting and uploading daily statistics and figures that show how the project is progressing

Do you have a passion for working with children and young people?
Do you want to gain hands-on experience in youth and children’s ministry while receiving high-quality training?

As an apprentice, you will work within a parish to develop and strengthen its children and youth ministry while studying with Ridley London. This three-year apprenticeship leads to a Certificate in Higher Education (Level 4) in Foundations in Theology, Ministry and Mission, with a focus on youth and children’s work.

You’ll be employed for 21 hours per week, spending 16 hours in the parish and 5 hours studying.

Parish Requirement
Applicants must apply with a linked parish in Diocese of London. Interested applicants should first speak with their local parish clergy within the London Diocese to confirm their eligibility. We cannot accept applications without a linked parish.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Engaging with children and young people, building positive relationships and supporting their faith journey

• Helping to lead activities such as Sunday school, messy church, youth groups, and holiday clubs

• Creating and delivering new initiatives to deepen young people’s involvement in the church

• Developing outreach work with local schools and community groups

• Leading discipleship courses for young people

• Assisting with administration related to children’s and youth work

• Attending regular team meetings, supervision sessions, and training as part of the apprenticeship

Who We’re Looking For

• Experience in youth and children’s work (voluntary or paid) or community learning and development

• GCSE/NVQ Level 2 qualifications, or a commitment to achieving these within the first year

• A willingness to commit to a three-year apprenticeship, combining study, training, and hands-on experience

• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and inspire young people

• Self-motivated and enthusiastic, able to work both independently and as part of a team

• A commitment to safeguarding and creating a safe environment for children and young people

• A Christian faith and alignment with the mission and values of the Church of England

• Right to work in the UK

About the role

We are seeking an Administration Officer to join our small and friendly team on a part-time basis (15 hours a week) ideally working 5 half-days, Monday to Friday (3 hours each day) but the exact working pattern is negotiable. 

As our Administration Officer, you will play a vital role in the smooth day-to-day operations of our organisation. Reporting to the Director, you will be responsible for a diverse range of administrative tasks, ensuring efficiency and accuracy across our various service areas. 

You'll be a central point of contact and support, working collaboratively to ensure the effective delivery of our services. You'll expertly manage referrals and information, develop positive relationships with referrers, colleagues, and service users, and handle vital office operations. Your organisational skills will also be key in supporting internal team functions, from HR processes to the coordination of meetings and training, and in maintaining efficient resource management.

To thrive in this role, you will bring proven experience in office administration, ideally gained within a fast-paced environment such as a small business, charity, or social enterprise. Success will require you to be highly organised, adept at managing your time and prioritising tasks effectively, all while maintaining a keen eye for detail and accuracy, even when juggling multiple responsibilities across different service areas. 

Strong IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and online project management tools, are essential. Beyond your technical abilities, you will be someone who proactively identifies and resolves issues, contributes to improving our ways of working, and supports your colleagues. 

Your approachable and welcoming nature, coupled with excellent communication skills, will enable you to build positive relationships and effectively convey information about our diverse work to service users, referrers, and other stakeholders, all while being a collaborative and adaptable team player.
