We are currently looking for an Academic Training and Development Lead at the Francis Crick Institute. In this role you’ll work alongside the Head of Academic Programmes, to design and deliver innovative, inclusive training programmes for our PhD students and postdocs, supporting the next generation of scientific leaders. Leading a small team, you will work closely with colleagues across the Crick and our university partners to ensure our training offer reflects the evolving needs of interdisciplinary research.

From launching new frameworks to enhancing existing programmes, your work will directly support a positive and forward-thinking research culture. This role is ideal for someone with a strong scientific background, experience in researcher development, and a genuine commitment to empowering early-career scientists.

What you will be doing

• Provide support to the Head of Academic Programmes to deliver the Crick PhD and Postdoc programmes
• Design and implement, alongside the Academic Training and Career Development Project Manager, a new Crick Postdoc Development Framework
• Lead, develop, motivate and performance manage the Academic Training and Career Development Project Manager to deliver their objectives
• Identify and consider the development of new science training and researcher development programmes for Crick PhD students and postdocs
• Evaluate Crick science training activities, refining to ensure that they are effective, current and support cutting edge research
• Ensure effective communication and consultation at relevant committees (e.g. Training & Career Development Committee, Postdoc Committee, PhD student committee)
• Scoping and investigating training and development activities provided by the Crick’s partners and other institutions, to identify opportunities for collaboration
• Lead on projects and work with the broader academic training team, the Crick Academy team and the People team, in other areas as required
• Lead on the continuous delivery of Vitae’s Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers at the Crick

What you will bring

(Minimum criteria *)

• Experience of working at a senior level in a dynamic scientific environment and higher education/research setting*
• Proven advanced skills in facilitation and/or teaching in a research or academic setting*
• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the management, training and development of staff in research and technology groups, preferably through experience
• Educated to PhD level and with post-PhD experience in a science discipline, or relevant, significant experience*
• Experience in leading the design and successful delivery of scientific training and development activities*
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of academic and professional colleagues
• Proven ability to work successfully with multiple stakeholders across a complex organisation.

Royal Economic Society (RES) is the professional membership body and learned society for the study and application of economics. The Partnerships Manager will play a central role in helping the RES achieve its strategic goals by developing, building and sustaining partnerships to deliver external funding. The individual will manage existing relationships, identify opportunities, lead bid writing, develop compelling funding proposals, and build relationships with funders, partners, and philanthropic donors.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising and bid development

• Identify and secure new sponsorship and partnerships opportunities to support existing RES activities
• Seek funding for new activities in line with the Society’s goals.
• Maintain and develop relationships with current and prospective partners including funding bodies, trusts and foundations, sponsors, major donors, corporates, universities and others.
• Write high-quality, persuasive funding bids and proposals, working with RES staff, trustees, and partner organisations.
• Develop cases for support, theory of change frameworks and budgets to underpin funding applications.
• Respond to calls for funding with tailored and timely applications that align with funder interests and the Society’s strategic priorities.
• Work closely with colleagues on the delivery of the funded activities, where appropriate overseeing these directly.

Business Development and External Engagement

Internal Collaboration and Capacity Building

Reporting

Person Specification

Essential Skills

1. Proven experience of successful fundraising, bid writing or business development, preferably in a learned society, research organisation, professional body or in higher education.
2. Understanding of impact and outcomes-based funding models (e.g. theory of change), and how to align funding opportunities with organisational priorities.
3. Ability to support the development of budgets for funding bids and to track/report against income target.
4. Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write persuasive funding bids, cases for support, and briefing materials.
6. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small team environment.
7. Highly organised, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines whilst maintaining quality.

Desired Skills

1. Familiarity with the research, higher education, or economics funding landscape.
2. Experience of working with a variety of funders, including trusts and foundations, research councils, corporates, or major donors.
3. Experience working with CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce or equivalent).
4. Understanding of how charitable governance interacts with fundraising, including experience supporting committees or preparing reports for Boards.

Our Little Stars project for 0–12 year olds has been established for over 3 years supporting younger members and their families with their diagnosis and beyond. The primary role of the RJU is to lead on the coordination of racial justice initiatives which involves the implementation of  (FLTA), supporting key stakeholders including the senior leadership, dioceses, NCIs, TEIs, and other related institutions, coordinating and supporting the governance mechanisms, and managing the related Triennium Fund.

Our Infrastructure Systems Manager plays a crucial role in the development, support and maintenance of these systems, implementing the tools and technology we need as well as driving the reduction of IT costs where possible.

This role is responsible for:

• Maintenance of technical infrastructure based on Microsoft technologies
• Automated process creation to ensure systems are monitored and managed
• Migration of remaining on premise systems to Microsoft cloud based solutions

The programme 

The mandate of the Knowledge, Learning and Communications (KLC) programme is to capture, distil and share knowledge and learning to strengthen Foundation’s impact and effectiveness. The role 

The Programme Officer (PO) will support the effective delivery of the Foundation’s Knowledge, Learning and Communications (KLC) workplan. Working under the supervision of the KLC Programme Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining the Foundation’s websites; planning and creating content for our online channels that communicates meaningful results and tells the Foundation’s story in as engaging way as possible; event coordination, facilitation and promotion; support for media relations; support for annual reporting and results monitoring; and support to Foundation staff in the optimal use of communications tools and IT. 

Key tasks and responsibilities 

The postholder will undertake the following key tasks: 

• Actively promote the values and aims of the Commonwealth 

• Monitor and engage with sector news, trends and discussions 

• Plan and create content for all social media channels, monitoring and reporting on social media reach and digital metrics

• Manage content for the Foundation’s websites and work with web developers to develop functionality and meet evolving needs

• Work collaboratively with the other Foundation programmes, identifying opportunities to maximise synergies towards the Foundation’s vision and mission

• Coordinate and support data collection and monitoring results against our strategy

• Guide and support staff in their communications 

The individual 

We seek an individual with demonstrated experience in communications gained within a comparable field, especially of social media and online marketing, along with experience of using website content management systems.  The ideal candidate will also have experience using the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and have a good understanding of Microsoft tools and webinar/virtual meeting platforms. They will have strong writing skills and experience in storytelling and reporting, along with an ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders. They should have an awareness of ensuring brand and style guidelines are reflected across communication activities and be comfortable acting as a first point of contact for media enquiries as well as liaising with colleagues and external suppliers.

We are seeking a qualified Specialist ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) to join our Advocacy team at Respond. The role includes providing pro-active emotional, practical and advocacy support for adults with learning disabilities and autistic people with complex or multiple needs who have experienced any form of sexual violence and are engaging, (or considering engaging) with the criminal justice system. The ISVA will work across London to provide non-judgmental, trauma-informed emotional support, working in partnership with other London sexual violence support services.

The Opportunity

This role at WFN provides an exciting opportunity to lead on the development of our growing Winner Network Development (WND) programme, identified as one of the charity’s key areas for strategic growth and maximised impact over the coming years. This is an exciting opportunity for a postgraduate-level researcher who wishes to combine their expertise in education research and astute understanding of real-life classroom practice. While the role will sit within the Chartered College of Teaching, the postholder will also receive mentoring from Professor Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-Life Learning at the University of Winchester, providing a rare opportunity to combine academically rigorous research with real-life application. As part of a project funded by the Comino Foundation, the Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist will help to increase teachers’ assessment literacy by managing a portfolio of assessment-themed online events, developing a suite of assessment-themed resources, co-ordinating the work of the Next Generation Assessment group and developing an overview of evidence-informed teaching and assessment strategies and how they link to intended student outcomes, based on a series of rapid evidence reviews.

Over the course of the assignment, you will support the Head of Research and Policy and work closely with the Research Lead and the Events and Engagement Manager to create and manage an engaging portfolio of online, assessment-themed events and resources.

This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes. You will:

• rapidly review evidence of assessment methods and pedagogies designed to cultivate knowledge, skills and dispositions of pupils, identifying gaps
• with support, produce evidence synthesis for a small number of key methods, not currently widely used by teachers
• manage a portfolio of online events aimed at developing teachers’ and school leaders’ levels of assessment literacy

Manage research and evaluation activities

• Evaluation project design

• Data collection

• Data analysis 

Collaborate on building and applying evidence 

• Embed learning - Work closely with colleagues to interpret and understand evaluation findings to inform programme development, fundraising bids, practice reports and policy work. 

• Sector awareness - keep up to date with developments in education, inclusion, attendance and exclusions, as well as research and evaluation methods relevant to our work

• Internal collaboration - support teams with ad hoc data queries, whether related to our own programmes or data from external sources, such as schools,

• Insight reporting

• Knowledge sharing 

• External representation

The Candidate
We are seeking a combination of the following skills, aptitude and experience:

Essential – We are looking for someone with the following knowledge, experience and skills, though you may be stronger in some areas than others:

• Track record of using research and evaluation methods

• Confidence analysing and presenting data clearly 

• project management skills

• Ability to report and communicate findings 

• Knowledge of the ethical and legal aspects of social research 

• Proven ability to work independently and take initiative

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Strong time management skills

• Passion for The Difference's mission 

You are more likely to be successful in your application if you have either/both:

• Familiarity with the education sector and/or school data systems, example MIS

• Ability to conduct desk research and literature reviews

• Lived experience or insight into the school experiences of marginalised young people
