Responsibilities and Person Specification:
This role is dedicated to building lived experience participation at Independent Age. We want to deliver more opportunities for a greater variety of people with lived experience of financial hardship in later life to shape our work in meaningful ways.
The role will be responsible for developing a lived experience participation network ensuring that our existing and growing work in this area can be delivered smoothly, ethically and in line with best practice and making sure that the voices of those most at risk of financial hardship can be heard. The role will champion and encourage participatory practice across the organisation, developing the long term lived experience strategy and supporting the organisation to learn and grow in this area.
You should have strong experience of designing, running and supporting participatory activity, particularly with those with lived experience of a pressing social issue. You will be passionate about making change for those with experience of financial hardship in later life and bring an understanding of what barriers there might be to taking part and how to overcome them. Exceptional organisational skills are a must, along with great communication and the ability to build relationships with a broad range of people.

Purpose:

JOB PURPOSE
The People and Learning Manager supports the delivery and ongoing development of the organisation’s Learning & Development (L&D) approach, combining practical delivery with scope to shape and improve learning initiatives.

To support the development and delivery of inclusive programmes and supported employment opportunities for learning disabled people, ensuring participants receive appropriate supportwhile helping to build sustainable opportunities through partnerships and funding.
Main duties and responsibilities
Programme and participant support
Act as a key contact for learning disabled employees, volunteers and programme participants.
Support individuals to engage confidently in activities, work placements and employment opportunities and seek progression routes for all learning-disabled employees.
Help identify support needs and practical adjustments to enable participation in clubs and employment programmes.
Liaise with staff, families, carers and external support organisations where appropriate.
Ensure programmes remain accessible and inclusive.
Programme coordination
Coordinate and oversee learning disability-focused activities: Tuesday evening adult social club; Friday evening youth sport club; hospitality and front of house employment programme.
Support scheduling, attendance monitoring and participant communication.
Gather feedback, outcomes and participant stories.
Help develop new opportunities and pathways for participation, skills and employment.
Work with staff across the organisation to embed inclusive practice.
Funding and development
Research grants, trusts and funding opportunities related to disability inclusion, supported employment and community programmes.
Support preparation of funding applications and contribute information, participant case studies and impact evidence.
Build relationships with local organisations, partners and funders.
Help identify opportunities to grow and sustain the role and associated programmes.
Maintain records of participation and outcomes.
Collect evidence demonstrating impact and learning.
Contribute to reports for funders and stakeholders.
Person specification
Essential
Experience working alongside learning disabled people in community, arts, employment or education settings.
Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
Understanding of inclusive practice and reasonable adjustments.
Ability to work independently and identify opportunities.
Good organisational skills with an ability to keep accurate records
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and the internet

Support Work qualification or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory

The Role
As Registered Manager, you’ll passionately guide supported living services that support adults with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs. With varying levels of independence, you will champion creative and adaptive support for every individual.
Holding responsibility as the CQC Registered Manager, you will provide leadership across compliance, safeguarding, operational delivery, and team development, while ensuring customers remain at the centre of all support planning and decision-making.
The role blends strategic and operational leadership, including:
· Leading and developing staff teams across multiple supported living services
· Driving service quality improvements and embedding positive service cultures
· Supporting services through compliance and inspection readiness activity
· Embedding Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Active Support approaches
· Managing safeguarding concerns, HR processes, and service performance
· Promoting meaningful community engagement and improved quality of life outcomes for customers
About You

Volunteer Centre Hackney is a thriving charity (annual income circa £1.1m, with 29 paid staff) providing volunteering infrastructure to the voluntary sector across the City of London and the London borough of Hackney. We support over 1500 residents a year to realise their skills and passions through volunteering and social action, and to share these for the benefit of others. This is a hands-on and strategic role for an experienced fundraiser who thrives in a small to medium sized charity environment. You will have autonomy to develop a whole new fundraising strategy, utilise diverse fundraising methods, and build and develop new project ideas and partnerships. You will lead on income generation primarily through sourcing and applying to trusts and foundations, and with the potential to build new corporate partnerships, community campaigns and individual giving. You will build authentic relationships with funders and supporters, and together with VCH colleagues, will identify new programme models as ways to generate income. You will contribute to the development and production of compelling stories, evidence and marketing and build and maintain the infrastructure needed to track and achieve progress against annual income targets.
Post holders need to have excellent communication skills, to represent the charity in writing and in person. You must be enthusiastic, self-motivating and confident to work primarily alone, but also able to engage and collaborate with staff from across the organisation to share information and impact evidence to support your role. If you are successful in securing funding there will be the potential to recruit additional support, and for you to become the Head of Fundraising of a small team.

The Sir Martin Gilbert Learning Centre is an educational charity whose mission is to educate young people about who Jews are and the contributions they have made to society. Our free workshops are integrated with the National Curriculum and rooted in academic research.
