WHO WE ARE

Animal Equality is an international animal protection organisation working with society, governments and companies to end cruelty to farmed animals. Animal Equality has offices in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil and India.

Animal Equality releases investigative materials captured from inside factory farms and slaughterhouses, exposing the conditions that farmed animals face around the world. We publish our findings on television, in newspapers and online. We routinely secure mainstream media coverage, including on the BBC, ITV, Sky News, The Times, The Guardian, The New York Times and many more.

Animal Equality also advocates for political change. Our current campaigns include a UK ban on foie gras imports, increased enforcement of existing animal protection laws, legal protections for farmed fish, and Government subsidies for transitioning towards a plant-based food system.

We focus on farmed animals because of the scale and severity of the issue. More than a billion animals are confined and killed for human consumption every year in the UK. Farmed animals also often suffer in some of the worst ways: pigs typically endure painful mutilations, many chickens die of heart attacks, fish are confined in underwater cages, and some farmed animals are victims of deliberate abuse and neglect. But the problem is solvable! By utilising effective campaigning strategies, Animal Equality is having an impact for animals around the world and building a future where all animals are respected and protected and are no longer exploited for human consumption.

Animal Equality UK’s current key campaigns include:

• Strengthening enforcement of animal protection laws.
• Halting the expansion of Scotland’s salmon farming industry.
• Achieving a ban on foie gras imports.
• Securing species-specific slaughter legislation for fish.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly organised, detail-oriented Operations Officer to play a central role in ensuring the smooth running of Animal Equality UK’s internal operations and supporter services.

This is a varied role covering administration, finance, data management, supporter care, and event coordination. You will be the first point of contact for many of our supporters and stakeholders, providing excellent service while supporting team members across all departments.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, solutions-focused, and comfortable balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. You will have a ‘can-do’ attitude and a calm and professional demeanour, thrive on problem-solving, and take pride in ensuring that systems and processes run efficiently behind the scenes.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Culture and internal support: Act as a culture ambassador, upholding Animal Equality’s values of professionalism, resilience, accountability, and compassion. Strengthen communication between teams and ensure effective use of project management tools. Identify and lead process improvements with guidance from the Operations Manager.
• Supporter and donor care: Serve as the first point of contact for supporter queries via phone, email, post, and social media. Provide excellent donor support, including thanking donors, resolving payment issues, and sending mailings. Maintain supporter and volunteer records accurately in CRM systems and ensure compliance with GDPR.
• Finance and reporting: Process expenses, supplier payments, and support budget forecasting. Assist with Gift Aid claims, monthly data uploads, and finance reports. Prepare scheduled reports and presentations to track progress against objectives.
• Team processes: Support recruitment processes, including application handling, interview coordination, and onboarding/offboarding schedules. Ensure smooth induction for new staff and manage equipment, training resources, and access.
• Events and operations: Assist with the organisation of internal training, team meet-ups, and supporter events. Support health and safety measures for team members and volunteers at peaceful protests, undertaking risk assessments and first aid training. Manage stock and campaign materials, fulfil supporter requests, and oversee mailing logistics.
• Data and systems: Conduct database cleansing and maintain accurate supporter, volunteer, and executive records.
• Represent Animal Equality’s culture: Support Animal Equality’s life-saving work by producing high-quality output, embracing and representing the organisation’s culture principles proudly at all times, and supporting our philanthropic efforts.
• Support with other ad hoc duties, as requested by your line manager.

You will be based remotely in the UK. In addition to monthly meet-ups, some travel within the UK may be required for demonstrations, meetings, and events. While not common, occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary to support campaigning activities. Any additional hours worked and agreed with your Manager can be reclaimed as TOIL.

Citizens Essex is a relatively-young Chapter of Citizens UK, covering 3 main geographical areas: Colchester, Chelmsford, and Southend. Community Organising

Through our theory of social change, called community organising, we train thousands of everyday people to lead change in their communities, equipping them with the skills to hold politicians and other powerholders to account. We are made up of 500+ member organisations in powerful alliances throughout the UK. Our members include schools, universities, faith groups, parents’ groups, health practices, charities, trade unions and other civil society organisations. 

Purpose 

At Citizens UK, our organisers and project staff work within communities to develop leaders, strengthen organisations, campaign for change and organise across difference. There are various project roles and operational, communication, finance and HR roles that support the organisation and project staff and organisers to deliver on this mission and work. This work is rewarding and can be challenging; it requires a personal commitment to inclusion, a willingness to listen and disagree respectfully, and an interest in working in an organisation where our staff, member institutions and leaders will come from a diversity of backgrounds and often hold views that may be very different from our own. More information about how we operate within this context and build trusted relationships across difference can be found on our website and is covered in induction. Onboarding and navigating this relational culture, and type of work, is supported by line managers and further training. 

Main Responsibilities 

A Senior Organiser is mastering the craft of community organising and taking increasing responsibility for developing major campaigns, managing budgets and managing staff. They operate with a high degree of independence and are significant contributors to CUK-wide functions such as training.  Senior Organisers model the broad-based community organising methodology in their work including the building of relational power, the recruitment and retention of dues-paying institutions, the development of leaders, the strengthening of member institutions, leader-led public actions, and the winning of systemic change. 

You will bring communities together to drive change both locally, regionally, and nationally. This role will work closely with local civic institutions, such as churches, mosques, schools, universities, unions and other community groups to: 

• develop the leadership of people within those organisations - our 'leaders' who lead the campaigns we work on 

• help them identify the changes they want to see and create strategies to win those changes 

• strengthen institutions’ own abilities to achieve their missions. 

This includes listening to members of the community to find common issues, engaging local decision-makers through meetings, and planning in-person ‘actions’, where you might hold those in power to account. All of this work is underpinned by the knowledge that everyday people have the ability to shape the world around them. This work will be rooted locally, but you will be a part of a bigger national drive to make change alongside diverse local alliances across the UK. In Essex, the work is currently focusing on the first Mayoral Election for the County but you will also work on other campaign priorities that are developed through the institutions you work with. 

Working as a Senior Organiser for Citizens UK, reporting to Regional Supervisor for the South of England, your main responsibilities will include: 

Build relational power to further the goals of CUK 

• Develop a comprehensive power analysis for Essex, particularly as the County will elect its first Mayor in May 2026  

• Develop and grow strong working relationships with power players at a county-wide level or sector, including journalists; taking the initiative to establish new relationships as required 

• Conduct one-to-one relational meetings in order to develop relationships with leaders; demonstrating timely and effective agitation to stimulate action 

• Work effectively with local journalists and media outlets to further CUK’s goals 

• Develop a strategic plan to enhance people’s participation in public life as well as enhance non-partisan political and democratic practices across Essex. 

• Develop a strategy built on an acute sense of how communities and institutions behave within, and across, the cultures and contexts of Essex.  

• Develop a plan that enables clear and impactful cross-institutional collaboration across Essex. 

Identify and develop relational leaders prepared to act with others for the common good 

• Work with and learn from the best veteran leaders on key actions  

• Play a central role in the development of primary leaders; creating plans with them that are carried out 

• Nominate leaders for training on the core taster curriculum and for National Training 

Strengthen institutions and develop BBOs 

• Organise diverse alliances to work together locally but, most importantly, at chapter level

• Design organising strategies that combine internal & external action 

Support leaders through the Cycle of Action to create change 

• Take the staff lead on chapter-wide actions and campaigns; aiming to achieve significant wins at chapter/campaign level 

• Facilitate Issues Workshops and Delegates Assemblies and, in March 2026, a Mayoral Accountability Assembly 

• Develop strategies for significant impact; with comprehensive plans & tactics  

• Support actions, ensuring publicity, and facilitating high level negotiations  

• Evaluate the effectiveness of actions; demonstrating ability to incorporate lessons learned into future actions 

Contribute to CUK’s financial viability through effective fundraising & financial management  

• Recruit new dues paying institutions; negotiating annual membership dues and letters of understanding as required 

• Recruit and work with large organisations; ensuring that they invest into the alliance and not solely internal delivery  

• Contribute to fundraising by securing £75k-£90k per annum overall, at least half of which should be ‘hard money’ from retention and recruitment of member institutions and strategic partners. 

Contribute to effective teamwork 

• Line manage other Organisers in Essex 

• Attract and help recruit new Organisers 

• Lead other Organisers or Associates in a manner that supports high performance by providing clear expectations and providing proactive coaching, support and accountability.  

• Teach entire training curriculum on National Training successfully; acting as a ‘Track Captain’ by providing meaningful feedback and support to other trainers

• Produce all required reports and follow CUK’s procedures on time and to the required standards 

Contribute to the Craft of Community Organising 

• Schedule an average of at least 3 to 4 1-2-1 relational meetings into your daily schedule as a core part of your professional practice 

• Commit 10 working days pa (pro rata for part-time staff) to the preparation, delivery and evaluation of Citizens UK National Community Leadership Training; 

• Contribute to the leadership of a Guild Team and help it develop as a Community of Practice that enables Organisers across the UK to develop their skills and experience.

Our Organisers and some project teams work closely with our member institutions and will be expected to attend member events that take place in the evenings and occasional weekends. You’ll be working with the local church to manage the delivery of Resurgo's award-winning Spear Programme. Over the last 20 years, Spear has supported more than 11,000 young people across the UK with the work-ready skills and mindset they need to succeed in employment, no matter the challenges they face. In this role, you’ll be responsible for:

The Lead Coach is primarily responsible for overseeing the training room and group sessions with young people. You will help shape the training environment and will confidently adapt and deliver materials and sessions to work within the group’s development towards work readiness.

Delivery of Spear Programme - Group and 1:1 coaching [60%]

• Preparing and coaching Spear Foundation sessions and 1-1s, ensuring that young people are engaged, retained and work-ready by the end of this initial phase of the programme.
• Building relationships with young people on the programme and managing culture, and attitudes in the training room.
• Adapting the Spear coaching material according to the needs of the Trainees and managing behaviour effectively.

Delivery of Spear Career [20%]

• Delivering weekly Spear Career sessions (including running workshops with past Trainees), maintaining records and reporting on statistics, and creatively developing ongoing relationships with Spear Trainees.

Training the Asssistant Coach [10%]

• Contributing towards the training and developing of the Assistant Coach by modelling excellent coaching and giving regular feedback.

Trainee recruitment [10%]

• Developing relationships with Job Centres and local referral agencies to ensure that the maximum number of Spear Trainees are enrolled on each programme. This involves liaising with referral agencies, active face-to-face recruitment and monitoring recruitment statistics.

Continuous professional development

• Continually engaging in professional development, including being part of Resurgo’s wider coaching programmes and supporting the Church Partnerships Managers with overall team training and development.

The British Academy – the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences - is seeking a Membership and Training Assistant to join the Early Career Researcher Network (ECRN) team, supporting the delivery of our inclusive, researcher-led network for early career researchers working across the SHAPE disciplines.

The role

The ECRN Membership and Training Assistant will play a key role in providing administrative support for the Early Career Research Network. The role holder will work closely with the ECRN team and will interact with researchers, universities and other stakeholders, as well as academic Fellows and colleagues from across the Academy.

You will support the ECRN Membership Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Network’s membership function. Key responsibilities include monitoring membership workflows, responding to member enquiries in a timely and professional manner, and serving as a primary point of contact for early career researchers interested in joining the Network. 

The primary focus of this role will be managing membership and data-related activities, but you will also be providing administrative and logistical support for the Leadership and Advancement Programme and wider Network as required.

You will be confident using Microsoft Office programmes daily, such as Outlook, Excel and Teams and will be supporting with online events through Zoom. You will have to keep membership records up to date on our CRM database, Salesforce and communicate with our members.

The role holder will gain a proficient understanding of our membership policies and procedures and support the management of our online community platform.

You will be expected to travel across the UK from time to time to attend events and meetings with our delivery partners and other key stakeholders where appropriate.

This role will focus on economic systems change, including innovative work on ways to drive private investment in nature; and on the role that nature must play in helping us to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. There will be lots of thinking, lots of writing, and lots of opportunities to shape shared campaigns with excellent opportunities to engage with and work alongside some of the leading experts in these policy areas. You will also play a key role in delivering those messages to key influencers in Government and in Parliament.

Work environment

• The post holder should expect to:
• Work in a hybrid hot desk environment, generally working 2 days a week in the London office and three from home.

You will be the first point of contact for grassroots charities, supporting them to strengthen their organisations and improve their chances of securing grant funding by offering practical guidance, signposting, and building trusted relationships that help them grow in confidence and resilience. The role includes helping organisations strengthen governance and compliance, sharing information on grant-funding opportunities, and supporting them to identify challenges and develop practical solutions.
 
The non-profits you will support work across a wide range of areas for example: women, health and wellbeing, youth, homelessness and poverty, family services, sports, faith groups, crime and gangs, prisoners and ex-offenders, refugees and asylum seekers, drug addiction, older people and rehabilitation, and many more. 
 
Bringing a strong awareness of the barriers facing small charities particularly Muslim-led groups, will be key to helping them build long-term sustainability and impact. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the first point of contact for charities and community groups, managing a varied caseload and balancing priorities. 

• Carry out needs assessments to understand organisations strengths, challenges, and funding needs, and develop clear action plans. 

• Provide tailored support, including health checks on governance, compliance, finances, and funding readiness, offering recommendations and signposting to specialist services (e.g., Cranfield Trust, CVS, Charity Excellence etc). 

• Advise on funding opportunities, strategy, and application readiness, with referrals to bid-writing support where needed. 

• Deliver workshops, webinars, events, and one-to-one sessions to build skills, knowledge, and confidence of UK grassroots organisations. 

• Work collaboratively with organisations and AWN colleagues (including via the triage and referral system) to identify challenges and develop practical, sustainable solutions. 

• Build and maintain strong relationships with charities, funders, and sector partners across the voluntary, public, and charity sectors. 

• Represent AWN at external events, conferences, and meetings, helping to organise and deliver events linked to your work. 

• Keep accurate records on the CRM, gather feedback, write case studies, and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and service development. 

• Support AWN’s communications by contributing updates for the website and social media.

Essential Criteria 

• 3+ years’ experience within the UK charity sector (domestic, not solely international). 

• Strong understanding of charity governance, compliance, and the UK funding and grant-making landscape. 

• Insight into the needs and challenges of small and grassroots non-profits, with awareness of the systemic barriers affecting Muslim-led organisations. 

• Experience supporting or advising charities, community groups, or local networks to build capacity and resilience. 

• Ability to work collaboratively with organisations, offering constructive and practical guidance. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with confidence in public speaking and engaging a wide range of stakeholders. 

• Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. 

• Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.  

• Comfortable working autonomously and as part of a small team, with minimal supervision. 

• Confident using technology to deliver support and manage work effectively, including CRM systems, Microsoft Teams, and other digital tools. 

• Experience in one or more of the following areas: 
  - Community engagement and outreach 
  - Event or project coordination (online and in-person) 
  - Delivering presentations, workshops, or training sessions 
  - Monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities

London’s Air Ambulance Charity delivers first-class, world-renowned training via The Institute of Pre-Hospital Care. It has influenced clinical guidelines, governance standards, and the practice of air ambulances in the U.K, Europe and Australia. 

We are seeking to appoint an organised and enthusiastic Clinical Courses Co-Ordinator to join our friendly team on a full-time basis. This role will assist with all aspects of the activities of our clinical training programmes within The Institute of Pre-Hospital Care. The Clinical Courses Co-Ordinator will work closely with our clinical and operational teams from both the HEMS and PRU services along with our university colleagues and degrees faculty. 

Reporting to the Degrees Manager, the post will have responsibility for assisting with all aspects of the delivery of the clinical course programmes. The post holder will be an integral part of the Institute team working closely with other members of the wider charity team.

You will be a highly organised and experienced person with a can-do attitude, meticulous attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
