Universify Education is looking for an organised and adaptable Programme Manager. This is a great opportunity for someone experienced in project management and working with young people to expand the charity’s programmes and work in a small charity.
Job Summary
- Contract type: Permanent, full-time.
- Start date: May/June 2024 or as soon as possible
- Salary: £28,000-32,000 based on experience
- Location: Hybrid working. We have office space in Oxford and London for those wanting to work in person. Willing to travel to Oxford 1-2 times a week, and, during course delivery for 2 months a year, be resident in Oxford (preference for an Oxford-based candidate). There may also be some ad hoc travel to other areas of the UK. This is not expected to be more than once a month.
The Charity
Universify exists to create a fairer, more equal society where every young person can fulfil their potential regardless of their background. We equip young people from low socio-economic and underrepresented backgrounds with the skills, knowledge, and belief to fulfil their potential through education.
We work with Year 10-11 students (aged 14-16) to increase their aspirations, improve GCSE attainment and to gain a greater understanding of post-18 pathways, particularly university, to make a more informed decision about their future. We run a year-long programme, starting with a week-long summer residential at partner universities, monthly coaching sessions with Universify coaches and a 3-day GCSE-focused revision residential at Spring.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Programme Manager, you will manage the Programme Team to deliver the charity’s annual residential and coaching programme and impact reporting. You will act as the primary relationship holder for all existing major programme partners, including universities and other third sector organisations. During programme delivery, you will be a part of the team’s Safeguarding Leads and work with the Programme Team to ensure the safety and care of our participants.
You will report to the CEO and work with them to build relationships with new partners, and develop the charity’s ability to expand the programme by considering its impact data, needs of partners and stakeholders, and any changes to its programme model. You will also maintain the charity’s CRM and improve programme efficiency. As the Programme Manager, you will be involved in events, fundraising activities and publicity, including supporting the Comms officer.
Main Duties
- Oversee programme delivery, including line managing the Programme Team (3 staff)
- Manage existing programme partnerships (universities, third sector organisations) and build new relationships alongside the CEO
- Manage and deliver external programmes including the Royal National Children’s Springboard Foundation partnership programme
- Project manage impact reporting, defining data requirements, overseeing data collection and analysis, and writing the impact report
- Work with the Communications Officer and CEO to enhance the charity’s publicity including social media, in-person events, and publicity campaigns
- Provide expertise as a Level 3 safeguarding lead as part of the safeguarding team
- Maintain the charity CRM (Salesforce) and coordinate with developers to update the CRM

Required experience
We are looking for candidates with the following experience
- At least 2 years’ experience of working with young people, particularly vulnerable groups, including delivering programmes
- At least 2 years of project management experience
- At least 1 year’s experience of team management and line management
- Experience of managing and recruiting a range of stakeholders involved in programme delivery, particularly schools and volunteers
- Secure knowledge and experience of child safeguarding policy and practice. Level 3 Safeguarding Lead qualification or a willingness to obtain this as part of the role
Ideally, candidates would have experience in a few of the following areas:
- Experience managing residential programmes or large-scale events. Experience of designing educational programmes
- Experience working with schools and universities
- Coaching expertise and ability to train coaches
- Knowledge of recruitment strategies, especially in the voluntary sector
- Experience expanding programmes and identifying new opportunities to expand programmes
- Impact report writing and data analysis expertise

JOB PURPOSE
This role will support the planning and delivery of digital projects and campaigns that aim to raise awareness of the Start Network, build engagement across membership and support the Start team to work in effective ways. The postholder will create, edit and share digital content, manage online communities and will support the planning, development, maintenance and management of digital platforms.
The post-holder will produce and edit a wide range of digital content, including written content and digital media. The post-holder will also support the day-to-day engagement of stakeholders on digital platforms, such as social media, collaboration platforms and other engagement tools. The post-holder will have a good knowledge of best practise in digital while being able to use data to evidence the effectiveness of content and campaigns.
The post-holder will also manage or support new digital developments, such as data visualisation, that will increase stakeholder engagement in our work. Working closely with stakeholders and colleagues, the post holder will support projects to ensure they meet business and audience needs and that they are delivered on time and on budget.
This role will also coordinate third party suppliers in this process.
This role will be full time, based in the UK or another country of Start Network’s operations with occasional travel required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
COMMUNITIES AND CONTENT

Coordinate the day-to-day communications of Start Network programmes on social media channels. Take part in planning and coordination of content for all social media channels, in line with digital engagement strategy.

Create and share multimedia content for social media and website (such as gifs, images and video) to build engagement with audiences around the world. Collaborate with Graphic Designer, Communications Officer and external agencies and freelancers in production of high quality content, in line with Start Network’s brand guidelines.

Manage day to day interaction with online communities (including social media, internal and member communities), track engagement, respond to enquiries and generate conversation.

Advise colleagues on how to use and manage social media and digital communities for greatest impact – Work with the Digital Manager and Communications Manager to deliver training for staff, introducing new platforms and digital tools to the team.

To assist with the marketing and promotion of Start Network’s content across the website, newsletters and social media channels and to contribute to Start Network’s marketing strategy as required.
DIGITAL PLATFORMS AND WEBSITE

Work together with the Digital Manager to manage the development of digital platforms, working with internal colleagues and external developers to identify and deliver a range of projects.

Maintain website content day-to-day, publishing news and blogs, resources, events and updating landing pages. Working with teams across the organisation on updating all pages regularly.

Make changes to the website based on data, audience, (UX) and expert research to improve accessibility, search engine optimisation (SEO) and the overall experience of our users.

Maintain the Start Network website day-to-day, identifying bugs, escalating internally and working with the developers to deliver solutions. Provide website, social media and newsletter activity reports and statistics and evaluate them in conjunction with the Communications Officer.

Maintain a Digital Asset Management system Canto; collating and storing photos and sourcing appropriate stock images.

Support the day-to-day delivery of digital projects fulfilling the organisations communications and digital objectives. These might include development of maps or other data visualisation tools and microsites.

Support effective development and use of internal platforms, Including our data management and CRM platform (Salesforce), and document management tool (Box) while maintaining high standards of data security and privacy.

Ensure inspirational, informative and educational content for Start Network and its key programmes is shared regularly through the Start Network website and other digital channels, including e-newsletters and social media.

Work with colleagues and members to edit high quality content in a variety of media, including photography, design, animation and video content.

Contribute to building a strong organisational digital culture, design and support training delivery to all staff.

Work together with the colleagues from the Communications team to provide advice and support to colleagues to raise the quality and effectiveness of content across the Network, through templates, guidance and training.

This role sits in the Trust’s Business Development/Nature Based Solutions (NBS) team, an innovative new team focused on county wide recovery and green finance investment within the county of Surrey. This role will also manage the Trusts internal and external processes around Green Finance and drive forward investment in nature at a landscape level.
As a senior role reporting into the Director of Business Development and Partnerships; practical experience of green finance including biodiversity net gain is essential; experience will also need to include demonstrable examples of project managing medium/large scale projects, contract management, financial analysis and working in a fast paced environment.
Our challenge is to restore Surrey’s nature and maximise climate adaptation and resilience following Lawton’s approach for a bigger, better, more joined up ecological network. This new Marketing and Digital Content Creator role will work alongside the Fundraising and Communications Manager and Partnerships and Events Fundraiser. The work is varied with different events and projects arising throughout the year and the team works collaboratively to achieve targets.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing digital plans to grow audience engagement and brand awareness.
- Creating exciting content for campaigns, emails, social media, and our website.
- Coordinating marketing projects and print materials across different service areas.
- Leading digital marketing efforts for fundraising campaigns, including regular giving and tailored communications.
- Maintaining supportive team working and building effective relationships with staff, service users, and supporters
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about the charity sector and committed to understanding YMCA Leicestershire’s work.
- Highly organised with the ability to plan and manage workload independently.
- Experienced in marketing, digital, with strong digital marketing skills.
- Proficient with digital tools and platforms, including social media and Google Analytics.
- A team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
To succeed in the role of Marketing & Digital Content Creator, your key skills will include:
- A recognised formal qualification in Marketing/Digital
- Minimum level 2/GCSE in Maths and English
- Proven & relevant suitable experience in a Marketing/Digital content role
- Strong digital marketing skills, including content creation, scheduling and monitoring. Familiarity with paid digital advertising and social media platforms
- Experience of designing print and digital assets using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar design programmes
