Citizens Advice Barnet’s twin aims are to help people in our community resolve the problems they face and campaign to change the policies and practices which affect their lives. Duties include

We are recruiting for a volunteer to teach the Women at our Refuge martial arts.

What you will be doing
- Coordinate and set up a weekly martial arts class for women

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
Volunteer Caseworkers are the lifeblood of SSAFA, supporting a growing number of people in need of financial, practical, and emotional support. Clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like Iraq or Afghanistan.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
The essential part of the role is visiting clients, so you will need access to a vehicle or another way to travel to meet clients at home or in a care home setting. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but you can complete the administration part of the role from home as long as you have access to IT equipment and the internet.
What would you be doing?
- Contacting beneficiaries and arranging to meet them at a mutually convenient time.
- Meeting beneficiaries and completing a form to assess their circumstances, using good communication skills, empathy and understanding.
- Sign-posting clients onto local services providing specialist advice.
- Applying for funding on the behalf of the beneficiary through a specific process and system
- Arranging for the purchase of goods and services
- Keeping the beneficiary informed of their case progress.
- Liaise with the branch and regional office, regarding your availability.
- Keeping up to date with training and SSAFA news so that you are best able to support clients.

- Range of support from central and regional volunteer operations team.
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses

More than 130,000 people live with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the UK. Every one of them shares the uncertainty of life with MS. People are most likely to find out they have MS in their thirties, forties and fifties; news that can be worrying and heart breaking. MS can get steadily worse, or symptoms can come and go unpredictably throughout someone’s life.
Could you spare three hours a week to provide emotional support and information to those affected by MS? If so, the MS Helpline team would like to hear from you.
We’re the UK charity for people with MS. We’re fighting for better treatment and care to help people with MS take control of their lives, and we’re funding research that we believe will stop MS for good. We’ve already made important breakthroughs, and big advances in MS treatments are possible within our lifetimes. With your support, we will stop MS.
Time and Commitment
The MS Helpline is open from Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm. All of our MS Helpline volunteers carry out their volunteering from home and give emotional support and information to people affected by MS by telephone.
We are looking for volunteers that can commit to a 3 hour telephone shift a week.
You will be attending comprehensive helpline volunteer training programme throughout May 2025. All training sessions will be remote via Teams during weekdays between 10am-4pm. There will be pre-reading and exercise tasks to complete in between training sessions.
About you
We do not ask for previous experience although we are looking for people with good listening skills and a clear, warm telephone voice. You should have good IT skills as the role will require use of Microsoft Office such as Outlook and Teams, internal databases and call handling system.
We also ask that you have access to a confidential and comfortable working space, computer and broadband suitable for MS Helpline Volunteer role. If you are shortlisted for the role interview, we will ask you about your home and equipment set up, as unfortunately not everyone may have the appropriate set up and equipment for MS Helpline Volunteer role.

Project overview:
Mind in Kingston is a local charity that supports people with mental health issues, and campaigns to raise awareness about mental health in Kingston and surrounding areas. We are affiliated to National Mind but operate independently in the Borough of Kingston upon Thames and surrounding areas.
The Information, Advice, Signposting & Referral Service is designed to provide enquirers with empathic advice, information and/or signposting.
Volunteers are extremely valued within our team and a vital part of our service delivery. We encourage and welcome people with lived experience of mental health issues to apply to volunteer with us; this could be personal experience relating to yourself, a family member or a friend; or in a professional capacity working with people with mental health issues.
We care about everyone’s wellbeing and as an integral member of our team, volunteers receive support to ensure they are trained and skilled up in their roles that they may take further in their career aspirations. They receive regular supervision and development opportunities as well as be part of our volunteer awards programme to recognise and celebrate their achievement and contribution to our community. As team members, volunteers have the opportunity to engage with the board of trustees, staff and other volunteers both professionally and socially.
Main purpose of the role:
· To provide confidential telephone advice and information about local services to service users.
· To provide empathic listening.
· To signpost service users to appropriate services.
· To promote emotional and physical wellbeing to service users.
· To collect data for monitoring purposes.
Tasks will include:
· Phone or email service users to provide advice, information and signposting.
· To research and learn about local services for information.
· To record each interaction with a service user on an enquiry sheet and file these in line with data protection regulations
· To fill in the message book and inform colleagues about messages relevant to them.
· To immediately raise safeguarding concerns and complete safeguarding if necessary.
· To maintain regular contact with your supervisor
· To attend meetings and supervision on a regular basis.

Core tasks
- With the Volunteer Supervisor, hold focus groups with Crisis members to identify potential contacts within Eritrean community groups and increase our knowledge and cultural awareness of the Eritrean community

- Help link these organisations with Crisis so that information can be shared about the realities of homelessness in London and the work of Crisis Skylight
- Gain valuable knowledge about cultural sensitivities so that we can improve staff awareness and better support people from the Eritrean community

To be successful in this role we’re looking for someone who:
- Is fluent in English and Tigrinya and/or Amharic and can translate and interpret between them
- Is knowledgeable about the culture and practices in the countries where Tigrinya/ Amharic are spoken

We are a very small, registered charity (number 1164078) who are looking to maintain and grow our current service offering.
We provide counselling support, for children and young people who would not normally have access to the help they need by offering funded counselling to children and young people within 35 local, surrey-based schools on a bi termly basis. We usually offer a counsellor for 3 hours per week, although this can be more depending on need and the size of school, as well as the age group that the volunteer counsellors need experience in.
We offer some part funded counselling on a self-referral basis for those who do not have access within their school environment or for those above school age. We currently support approximately 45 children, young people and their caregivers on a weekly basis.
We are looking for another Student/Volunteer Counsellor to join our small passionate and perfectly formed team working in Surrey.
Role Description
You will provide at least 3 counselling sessions to 3 separate children and/or young people per week at one school per term. You will then move to another school to continue supporting children on a similar basis for another term. We ask for your commitment to this (as a minimum) for one academic year. You may commit to more if you can. The schools will be either based in and around Tadworth, or in and around the Byfleet/Woking area.
The Matthew Hackney Foundation will provide bi-weekly supervision with our counselling lead who is a qualified and accredited child and adult therapist.
The Matthew Hackney Foundation will provide you with professional support and training in accordance with BACP guidelines and best practice, specifically on topics that are relevant to working with children and young people.

This is a general outline of our volunteer counsellor role, please be aware that your duties and responsibilities may develop as your role grows and you may be required to undertake other relevant reasonable duties from time to time.
Key criteria required for the role;
Qualifications:
You will be a fully qualified Counsellor, Therapist or Educational/Clinical Psychologist or studying towards one of these professions at the following levels:
Diploma or degree in Counselling (minimum of Level 4 or above). You will need to have achieved your certificate of competence to practice or be working towards this. You must also have completed your NCFE levels 1 – 3 in counselling skills (or the equivalent).
Degree, MSc or MA in Counselling, Counselling Psychology or Psychotherapy - if you are in your first year you will have relevant experience of direct work with children.
Experience:
Counselling training must have, or have had, a therapeutic and personal development component rather than being purely theoretical or research based (as with Distance Learning courses). Examples of this include: role play, creative work with art, TRIAD techniques.
Preferably will have experience of working with children aged 4 – 16 gained through volunteering, caring for children or through a background in a caring profession such as nursing, social work or as a health visitor.

Willingness to make a minimum commitment to practice in school one half day per week (term time only) for one academic year.

The role: What will you do?
● Complete an induction for your role.
● Maintain an awareness of how the local Citizens Advice is operating.
● Plan the board meetings, including the dates and the agenda, with the Company/Charity Secretary and the Chief Officer.
● Read papers for board meetings and attend six board meetings per year.
● Facilitate the trustee board meetings by leading the meeting, ensuring that agenda items are discussed, enabling all members to contribute their views and take part, and seeking clarification where necessary.
● Ensure that decisions and actions taken at board meetings are carried out.
● Ensure that the board decisions are made within the remit of the Citizens Advice membership agreement, governing documents, and policies.
● Monitor attendance and commitment of all trustees.

♦ Seek the views of all sections of the community and monitor how well the service meets the needs of the local community.
♦ Ensure the service plans for the recruitment and turnover of staff and volunteers.
