Join our choir as a Guitarist Volunteer, contributing your musical talents to enhance our rehearsals and performances! Your role will support in creating a lively atmosphere, allowing our choir to deliver unforgettable performances! Sessions take place every Thursday from 3-4pm, if you are available and would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you!

What you will be doing

• Accompany choir members during rehearsals and performances with live guitar music.

Are you passionate about supporting people to improve their language and communication skills? Are you working towards a teaching qualification and looking to gain relevant experience? 

We are looking for new ESOL volunteers to support our qualified tutors in the classroom. Volunteers play a fundamental role in our classes. All of our classes are led by paid teachers, however, they are also often supported by volunteer teaching assistants.

Whether helping to set up the classroom, supporting participants during group work or offering support and advice on local services, the contribution made by volunteers in our classrooms is vital.

Skills/ experience

• CELTA or similar qualification is desirable
• Teaching experience is desirable

Most of our classes are held face to face in West London, with some having a blended / online learning approach with Zoom.

Volunteer ESOL Teacher to provide face to face classes for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. You will plan and deliver lessons independently with the assistance of experienced ESOL teachers.  Your students will be from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and ages.

We run classes from Mon to Wed from 10 am until 12. 

Previous teaching experience is not compulsory; CELTA or TEFL appreciated.

Minimum 3 month commitment preferred.

Volunteer Opportunities with Beyond the Streets

Do you want to invest your time supporting women who are marginalised in Tower Hamlets? Do you feel called to social justice and want to do something about it? For over 20 years we have been supporting women involved in selling sex.  Many of the women credit our Door of Hope project with being key to their sense of wellbeing whilst on the streets and for some, their exit from selling sex.

We are recruiting new volunteers to continue delivering consistent outreach, early morning, and late evening, spanning different days of the week.

We need volunteers to work with the women we support. We are looking for women with:

• A vision for reaching out to women involved in/affected by selling sex/sexual exploitation.
• Empathy, compassion and a non-judgmental approach.
• An ability to build trusting relationships whilst maintaining personal boundaries.

What you can expect from us

• An opportunity to work together to see an end to sexual exploitation.
• A friendly, supportive, and experienced team.
• A positive volunteering environment, including volunteer induction and ongoing supervision and support.

What we ask from you

• A regular time commitment to take part in outreach, 1 session a month with 1 session as a back up.

• A commitment to reflective practice – taking good care of yourself, contributing to team or 1-1 supervision, responding reflectively to your experiences with Door of Hope
• An openness to learning and working together.
• Availability to attend team meet ups 4-5 events a year (usually on a Monday or Tuesday evening)

We are looking for local volunteers:

• If you live within 8 miles of Tower Hamlets, we can cover the cost of late night, safe transport to and from the outreach meeting place via Taxi.
• If you live outside an 8-mile radius of Tower Hamlets it would be helpful if you had access to a car or be willing to contribute to the cost of a taxi home.

Hestia and UK SAYS NO MORE operate over 4,500 Safe Spaces in pharmacies and banks across the UK, for anyone experiencing domestic abuse. Anyone can be affected by domestic abuse, regardless of gender, age, race or identity. Domestic abuse is not always physical violence, and it can take many forms including emotional, sexual abuse, coercive and controlling behaviour. One in three women and one in seven men are affected by domestic abuse.

What you will be doing

• To visit Pharmacies and Banks/Building societies to check whether they have a consultation room to deliver the Safe Spaces Scheme

Action Tutoring is a national education charity that offers free maths and English tutoring to pupils facing disadvantage. 

By volunteering as a tutor at a local school or online, you'll be supporting children to build their confidence and help ensure they leave school with the grades needed to build a bright future.

What will I be doing?

• Tutoring 1-3 pupils in Year 5 or 6, or Year 7, 10 or 11.

• Commit to one hour a week, for up to 20 weeks. You choose the day and time to sign up to.

• Use our tutor workbooks to guide your pupils through activities that will boost their confidence and grades.
