The role of the Legacy Marketing Manager will be an integral part of our legacy marketing team, working together to lead the strategic planning, support and delivery of integrated, multi-channel direct marketing campaigns, consortium activity and events to promote legacy giving and grow our pipeline of supporters.
We need a strategic thinker who is innovative, highly proactive and organised, and takes ownership in managing a portfolio of inspiring acquisition, conversion and stewardship campaigns, appeals and experiences across a range of channels including Digital, Email, Telephone, Direct Mail, Press, Events. We need someone who will drive the programme forwards, maximising value, continuously improving ways of working, and innovating in response to need.
You will be highly numerate, basing decisions on data & insight, and engaging a diverse range of potential legacy supporters, by connecting them to opportunities to support Diabetes UKs work. You will ensure you provide an excellent supporter experience – inspiring donors to maximise the value of their gift, engage with other fundraising products and continue to support Diabetes UKs work.

Overview of the Philanthropy Manager role and the team
Barnabas Aid is seeking a proactive and experienced Philanthropy Manager to join our International Outreach team. This new role is integral to ensuring the growth and sustainability of our work through regular or one time organisational and personal donations. The Philanthropy Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive strategy in support of this, targeting potential supporters who wish to leave a lasting impact through Barnabas’ work. The role will involve cultivating relationships with current and prospective organisational and private UK based and international supporters, overseeing communications and marketing strategies, and ensuring that Barnabas Aid’s fund raising programme is promoted effectively across all channels.
As part of a dynamic fundraising team, the Philanthropy Manager will work closely with the Head of Campaigns, the Living Streams Officer, and the Head of Communications. The role will also involve engagement with donors, ensuring that Barnabas Aid is at the forefront of supporters' minds when it comes to making donations or leaving a legacy for future generations of Christians in need.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Fund Raising Strategy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive donation, legacy marketing and stewardship strategy, with the aim of increasing the number of organisational, regular and one-off individual donations in addition to legacy gifts to Barnabas Aid.
- Adherence to the Code of Fundraising Practice within this strategy.
- Fund Raising Marketing:
- Create and execute marketing campaigns that inspire organisations and supporters to consider making one off or regular donations to Barnabas Aid. This will include writing promotional materials, organising events, and developing digital campaigns to raise awareness of the variety of ways of making donations and legacy giving.
- Donor Stewardship:
- Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective donors, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated.
- Provide regular updates and tailored communications to supporters to ensure long-term engagement and support.
- Engagement & Retention:
- Work to retain donors by developing a robust stewardship programme that encourages ongoing involvement and loyalty.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Head of Campaigns and the communications team to ensure that the fund raising programme is integrated into wider campaigns and communications strategies.
- Reporting & Tracking:
- Maintain accurate records of gifts and supporters, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations eg The Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice, charity law etc.
- Report on campaign outcomes, analysing data to identify trends and optimise future strategies.
- Promote Donor Giving:
- Represent Barnabas Aid at events, meetings, and speaking opportunities to promote the many different ways to donate and build awareness within all supporter communities.
- Target Achievement:
- Set and achieve specific targets for the acquisition of new gifts and be a key player in meeting the overall goals for Barnabas Aid.
- Collaboration with Regional Offices:
- Work with the National Directors of our Regional Offices worldwide to promote donor giving in different geographical areas and ensure strategies are relevant to regional contexts.
- Training & Development:
- Provide training and resources to staff and volunteers to ensure the fund raising message is communicated consistently across the organisation.

Knowledge , Skills and Experience
Essential
- Fundraising Expertise:
- Proven experience in developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies, ideally within a (faith-based)charity or not-for-profit environment.
- Campaign Management:
- Strong background in developing, planning, executing, and measuring marketing campaigns across multiple platforms, including print, digital, and face-to-face engagement.
- Demonstrable success in increasing donations
o Experience in major donor relations, or planned and unplanned giving campaigns.
- Relationship Building:
- Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in building long-term relationships with high-value and individual donors, including legacy supporters.
- Data Management:
- Strong organisational and data management skills, with experience using CRM systems to track supporters, donors and gifts.

About the Legacy Manager role:

What you'll bring as our Legacy Manager :
Knowledge
- Experience of developing and managing a mixed Legacy and In-Mem Marketing portfolio.
- Experience of stewarding legacy prospects to become pledgers
- Excellent knowledge of GDPR, Fundraising Regulator guidelines, and other fundraising standards.
- A good understanding of working across a variety of fundraising channels; including digital, email, social media, direct mail, telemarketing, and SMS.
- A good understanding of using Charity CRMs.
- Proven record of managing agencies
- Proven track record of planning and delivering events
- A proven track record of delivering successful legacy and in memory fundraising programmes
- Understanding of UK legacy and in memory giving market including future trends and direction.
- Ability to report and analyse online and offline campaigns, including interpreting results, applying learnings and making recommendations to increase income.
- Ability to design, develop and deliver training and development activities for both staff and volunteers.
- Proven track record of delivering legacy cultivation events
Skills

Experience
- At least 5 years’ fundraising experience especially in legacy and in memory fundraising

About the Role
We have a strong Fundraising & Communications team with a clear strategy in place to achieve growth of voluntary income from £2.7m-£4.1m a year by 2028. About the role
You will be joining a friendly and face paced fundraising team and will be responsible for delivering income from Legacy and In Memory giving year on year. You will develop the Legacy and in Memory supporter care journeys as well as support the Individual Giving Manager with the development of legacy marketing and in memory fundraising activities.
You will project manage Legacy Marketing campaigns as well as lead and develop the "Free wills month" campaign. You will work with the wider fundraising team to steward in memory supporters and maximise in memory giving. You will also deliver in memory events with the fundraising team.
About you
To be successful in this role you must have had experience in either a Legacy or in Memory fundraising role with a proven track record of delivering income and delivering supporter care journey's. You will have experience of working with a CRM as well as analysing complex data.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver excellent supporter care by monitoring inboxes and responding to enquiries promptly and sensitively

- Write and send personalised thank you letters to supporters, solicitors and executors to acknowledge donations received from a range of sources including legacies and in-memory donations

Interim Assistant Head of Legacy and In Memory Fundraising, a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Legacy and In Memory specialist to join a well-known Social Welfare Charity, based in South-East London.
- Contract Length: 4 - 5 months.
- Hybrid: Ideally 2 days per week, office-based.
Working alongside the Head of Legacy and In Memory Fundraising, as the Assistant Head of Legacy and In Memory Fundraising, your role will focus on driving key fundraising and stewardship activities. Leading on delivering a multi-channel acquisition and retentions legacy marketing programme aimed at increasing the number of In Memory donors and legacy supporters who will leave a future gift in their Will.
You will line manage two staff, play a wider leadership role within the team, and champion legacy giving across the organisation, along with strategic planning and budget management, and ensuring suppliers deliver against SLAs.
Key areas of responsibility include:
