The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is an international organisation that protects the natural world and defends our shared, fundamental human rights to a secure environment. With grassroots projects and national programmes in 16 countries and a growing investigative, filmmaking, and campaigns team working to protect our global ocean and climate, wetlands and forests, EJF is growing fast. This new role reflects our ambition to increase our income and diversify our funding to meet our commitment to defend the planet, wildlife and people.

Most of EJF’s income comes from private foundations and government agencies in the UK, Europe, and the USA. We want to diversify the funding base by sharing our impact and ambitions with potential funders and securing long-term prospects that help us plan and sustain our international campaigns. The role needs a highly organised and self-motivated individual to identify opportunities and manage the grant application and reporting process.

About the Role

The post is new to EJF, offering an unusual opportunity to join a dynamic growing organisation and help deliver on EJF’s vision for the future. The role will work directly with the directors and COO, senior management, and colleagues in every geography, giving unique insights into each team's operations and impacts and the issues they are working on.

This role is for you if you are enthusiastic and self-motivated with superb, precise and persuasive written skills and meticulous attention to detail. You are organised and able to meet deadlines and prioritise your workload. You have a track record of writing successful grant applications and meeting the reporting requirements to deadlines. You enjoy researching and reaching out to prospective funders, building relationships, and liaising with colleagues to ensure you have the information needed to craft winning proposals. You are a confident speaker who will inspire funders to support our work.

Responsibilities include:

• Research and make recommendations of funding opportunities (new funders) and the best fit with EJF’s current and planned programmes. Draft initial enquiries (LoI or call) or funding applications. Ensure timely, appropriate follow-up is conducted and that we collect and learn from feedback.

• As directed, manage relationships with funders, ensuring timely reporting that meets their needs. This will include drafting the funder newsletter (bi-monthly) and providing new materials, such as reports, films, audits, etc.

• Draft funding proposals and monitor all deadlines for reporting, planning for the timebound and efficient delivery, and working with team members to ensure the highest quality reports are drafted in good time.

• Organise a monthly meeting with the directors and COO to present opportunities and actions and agree on priorities and approaches to donors.

• Take the lead in preparing government grant applications, liaising with colleagues for information and finessing draft texts.

• Maintain the grant database and ensure it is regularly checked and updated and that leads are followed up.

• Maintain the grants calendar, ensuring you are aware of reporting deadlines and other priority needs well in advance and ensuring no deadlines are missed. The role will take a proactive lead and coordinate as required.

• Assist in delivering events to update existing and attract new funders and ensure appropriate follow-up.

• Assist in crafting presentations to funders and, as required, work with the comms team to develop films or other materials.

• You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrable experience drafting clear, precise, and engaging copy, winning fundraising proposals, and supporting materials.

• You can deliver presentations and engage with funders.

• Fluent in written and spoken English; other modern European languages are an asset.

The Senior Grants Officer (Business Development) will join ClientEarth’s thriving and growing Business Development team. A key role for securing new grant income, the postholder will play a crucial part in the research and cultivation of potential new funder relationships, and will develop and submit winning funding proposals to trusts, foundations and institutional donors. 

They will manage their own portfolio of prospective funders, and undertake detailed prospect research into the foundation donor market whilst liaising with ClientEarth’s global teams across different programme areas and geographies. Working closely with the Business Development Manager, they will identify potential alignment with ClientEarth’s strategic priorities and inform decision-making in relation to funding opportunities. 

Meet your Manager

In this role, you will be managed by Alex Wright. A fundraiser for over 12 years, Alex previously worked for a range of national music charities and is a trustee of two arts education charities. As part of the Business Development Team at ClientEarth, he manages the cultivation of new relationships with trusts and foundations in the US and securing new grant income. Alex joined ClientEarth in 2024 and is based in our London office.

Main Duties

• Prospect research and pipeline development - Proactively undertake research to identify, qualify and prioritise new funding prospects/ opportunities to support the build of a pipeline of high quality leads to guide future fundraising efforts; 
• Business Development and Income generation  - Draft clear and compelling written fundraising materials including cases for support, funding proposals, and concept notes;
• Systems and processes - Provide timely and accurate information to the Business Development Manager on funding opportunities in their portfolio and progress with workplan, as requested, to enable accurate monitoring and reporting to the Head of Business Development;
• Understanding of ClientEarth’s programmes and funding needs 

Role requirements

• Fluent (CEFR level C2) in English 
• Experience of working in a fundraising or business development role for a charity, NGO, private or public entity; 
• Experience of drafting compelling and successful proposals for trusts, foundations and statutory institutions and securing multi-year grants, ideally at the six-figure level and above; 
• Experience of supporting the relationship development process with a new donor, from prospect research through to ask.
• Strong project management skills to lead the proposal development process to meet funder deadlines, including stakeholder management;

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Leadership, strategy & planning

1. Lead the research and public affairs functions at Alcohol Change UK.

2. Produce and deliver plans across our research and public affairs work programmes that are ambitious for change (impact), realistic given our resources, and consistent with our strategy, our other work programmes, and our values.

3. Set budgets, tightly control costs and identify opportunities for making savings, growing income and making the case for investment.

4. Appropriately monitor and evaluate our research and public affairs work with a view to knowing, growing and showing the impact we make.

Research

5. Work closely with the CEO, Policy and Research Manager, R&P sub-committee and Wales Office to determine and oversee the charity’s programme of commissioned research, research grants, and in-house research.

6. Ensure that all research is designed with impact-in-mind and, once complete, that it delivers on that impact through active and ongoing communication of the findings to the right audiences with the right messages through the right channels.

7. Lead the research function to be the central hub for the charity on the topic of alcohol harm and its solutions, staying on top of new research.

8. Influence the research spending of other agencies (e.g. NIHR) with a view to maximising funding into alcohol research in general.

Public Affairs

9. Lead and manage the charity’s public affairs activity, deploying the CEO, Research & Policy Officer and other staff as a team.

10.  Lead our work with external alliances, such as the Alcohol Health Alliance and the Alcohol and Families Alliance, and on the APPG on Alcohol Harm.

11.  Develop excellent relationships with Parliamentarians, civil servants, charities and other important institutional actors in our field.

12.  Build Campaigner journeys for our engagement audience to best mobilise them to help us with our influencing work.

13.  Lead on the commissioning and management of any external public affairs agencies, parliamentary monitoring services and similar suppliers.

14.  Ensure our policy positions are kept up-to-date, based on emerging evidence and contemporary thinking, and consistent with our principles.

15.  Work closely with the Director of Engagement and Fundraising to effectively mobilise and deploy our activists, Community Champions and other supporters so they (i) make a difference, (ii) become better informed over time, and (iii) remain motivated to campaign for our cause.

Role Summary

This position provides key support for the policy and research functions of the charity, in addition to collaborating on campaigns and public affairs work. You will be responsible for carrying out primary research relevant to the charity’s policy and research functions. You’ll be monitoring and collating new policy and research materials and contributing to public communications including report-writing, blog posts and social media activity. You’ll be providing input into strategic planning regarding policy and research activities. You’ll connect with researchers and policy people from other charities and from universities. Finally, you’ll be attending conferences and meetings on behalf of the charity.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Policy

• Support the P&RM, DR&PA and CEO in responding to public consultations, advising policymakers and working with national policy and research bodies as appropriate.

• Represent the charity in meetings with policy partners where appropriate.

• Attend policy and research conferences on behalf of the charity, providing feedback to the team on key learning and opportunities that arise.

• Work with the SC&PA and DR&PA to draw up influencing strategies to target key stakeholders on policy priorities.

• Monitor external research that helps our policy work and opportunities for collaboration.

• Work with the SC&PA  to engage campaigners in our policy work.

Research

• Work with the P&RM to carry out research activities relevant to the policy and research functions of the charity; including collating and analysing data, and co-authoring reports for both internal and public purposes.

• Work with the P&RM and the Communications and Marketing teams to produce engaging and accessible communication of research findings for a range of audiences. 

• Monitor and collate new policy and research materials, including research reports, policy documents and media activity. Work with the P&RM to produce internal reports where appropriate and to ensure the charity’s activities reflect and respond to the wider policy and research environment.

• Work with the P&RM on external research projects funded by the charity, including support with assessing the quality of bids by external researchers. 

Across both areas

• Produce social media communications where relevant to policy and research. Work with colleagues across the Research and Public Affairs and Communications and Marketing teams to develop strategies for maximising impact, especially in digital communications.

• Contribute to strategic planning by contributing to staff meetings, producing supporting materials and providing feedback on public affairs.

The postholder will also be expected to:

• attend training courses and develop skills as required, sharing learning with other staff as relevant

Leadership, Collaboration & Line Management 

• Support the Director of Operations through preparation for and reporting to governance meetings. 

• Participate actively as a member of the Leadership Team.

Finance Policy & Process Management 

• Be responsible for monitoring compliance with MAP’s financial and procurement policies and review and update these policies on a regular basis. 

• Develop and implement strong cash and treasury management policies and procedures. 

• Manage and develop all financial accounting systems in consultation with the Head of Reporting to ensure they are fit for purpose. 

• Help to ensure value for money and the effective use of funds across the organisation. 

Compliance & Regulatory Reporting 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with the external auditors. 

• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the annual statutory accounts for the annual audit and implement recommendations from the auditors and/or Board. 

• Monitor institutional income and related contracts and ensure that all restricted income, including Zakat, is properly accounted for. 

• Ensure the financial management of MAP is compliant with relevant accounting, legal, HMRC and tax requirements, including VAT and corporation tax, and that the correct returns are made. 

• Submit the necessary returns and maintain our records with the Charity Commission and Companies House on a timely basis.

Cashflow & Bank Account Management 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with MAP’s banks in the UK. 

• Maintain UK bank accounts and ensure financial governance is in place for overseas bank accounts.

• Ensure bank mandates and online banking operations are reviewed and updated on time. 

• Monitor and manage the organisation's cash flow to ensure there are sufficient currency funds to meet operational needs. 

• Review fund and payment  requests from overseas offices and that planned activities are within budget. 

• Release all payments from UK bank accounts, including UK payroll. 

Financial Controls 

• Implement appropriate internal controls, policies, and procedures to protect against fraud and misappropriation. 

• Oversee and manage all payroll budgets and forecasts. 

• Oversee the payroll functions, ensuring adequate internal controls and approvals are in place and adhered to, and all statutory requirements are met. 

• Ensure regular reconciliations are made between the accounting system and the CRM. 

• Oversee legacy administration liaising with the Legacy Advisor. 

Risk Management 

• Risk management – manage strategic and operational financial risks working with the Head of Internal Audit & Compliance.

• Maintain insurance policies across all MAP offices to ensure appropriate and adequate risk mitigation and meet statutory requirements. 

Person Specification 

Experience 

• Extensive experience in a finance leadership role within a complex charitable organisation, working internationally. 

• Experience of UK charity finance practice and governance - UK Charities SORP FRS 102. 

• Excellent technical knowledge and skills in accountancy principles, governance, and standards, including preparation of statutory accounts. 

• Successful track record of managing financial systems, and cashflow. 

• Experience of working in a multi-currency organisation. 

• Ability to contribute to the management of in-country finance colleagues, while not taking direct line-management responsibility for them.

Our Helpline runs from 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and we’re looking for an enthusiastic, warm and experienced individual to support our dedicated Helpline Volunteers and Befriending Volunteers within the Helpline team.

This role requires working flexible hours, including 9am–5pm, 10am–6pm or 11am–7pm between Monday to Friday to meet services and volunteer needs (3 days a week).

You will be providing continuous support to all our volunteers at the Helpline team, directly contributing in providing information and support to our Helpline enquirers, with both proactive and reactive content and information on prevalent topics or trends affecting the MS community.

As Data Privacy Manager, you will review, update, and monitor the policies and procedures that are in place to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Regulation 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Regulation (PECR, 2003) laws, including managing internal data protection activities, advising on data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), training staff, and conducting internal audits.
This role focuses on providing data protection advice to Age UK's various business units promoting a "privacy first" approach to design and development of products and services that involve the use of personal data and your primary aim will be to recommend and oversee measures to address any identified gaps in data protection and security.

The successful candidate will use their experience in data governance to undertake regular due diligence on the key elements of the Age UK data privacy framework, identifying and reporting any areas of practice and procedure that that require focus and remedy to ensure that there is no weakness across the charity and our commercial partners.

Purpose of This Role:

This is a pivotal role to support NASP’s strategic aims to promote and spread social prescribing at a local, national, and international level.

The purpose of this role is to provide operational support and act as point of contact for the organisation’s Finance and People functions, as well as providing Programme support across the organisation, ensuring smooth running and continual improvement of NASP’s processes.

Responsibilities:

Finance

• Act as first point of contact for Finance enquiries, both internally and externally
• Manage the Finance mailbox, ensuring queries are dealt with efficiently
• Co-ordinate day-to-day financial operations, including processing of invoices, purchase orders, expense claims, reconciliations, etc.
• Overseeing virtual card system (Soldo) for NASP employees
• Supporting CEO, Director of Operations (DoO) and Director of Finance (DoF) on budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and year end process as required
• Working with external Finance provider (Carpenter Box) to support processes
• Attending regular finance catchups, supporting these meetings and providing feedback on issues & processes
