Join our Youth Advisory Board (YAB) at Ditch the Label

Applications are now open to young people aged 14 to 25 who live in the UK. We’re looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals who are keen to get involved, share their views and make a difference. No prior experience is needed, and we welcome applications from all backgrounds. We especially encourage young people with lived experience of the issues central to our work and those from communities whose voices are often underrepresented.

This is a voluntary position, and spaces are limited. We’ll be in touch with all applicants once we’ve reviewed the applications. 

What does Ditch the Label do?

Ditch the Label is a global youth charity that supports young people to thrive in an increasingly complex digital world. We’re working with people aged 12 to 25 on the challenges they face, such as digital safety and online harms, mental health, relationships, bullying, and identity. Through our online community forum, young people can connect with others, share experiences, and get confidential support from our trained mentors.

Why do we need a YAB?

The Ditch the Label YAB exists to make sure young people are at the heart of everything we do. We want to listen to you directly and to better understand the real needs, challenges, and experiences of young people today. Your insights help shape our resources, support services and policy work, so we can be more effective, relevant, and helpful.

By being part of the board, you'll:

• Represent youth voices when we speak with stakeholders, helping to shape real change from the ground up.
• Give feedback on our projects so that everything we do works better for young people.
• Help us keep up with trends and platforms that matter to you (like the apps and tools you actually use).
• Explore additional opportunities (only if you’re up for it!), such as becoming a Social Media Ambassador and helping to create content for our social media channels, or a Media Ambassador and speaking with journalists about Ditch the Label’s projects.

How does the YAB work?

The YAB meets once a month online to talk about the issues and trends affecting young people, whether online or offline. Each meeting lasts around 1.5 hours, and the agenda is sent out in advance so you know what to expect. Members of YAB also have a chance to facilitate and lead the sessions, if they wish to.

Currently, members of the 14 to 17 age group meet online on the first or second Thursday of the month, 5.30 to 7 p.m.; and members of the 18 to 25 age group meet online on the first or second Monday of the month, 5.30 to 7 p.m. Exact dates are shared in advance.

It’s a minimum of a one-year commitment, but we totally understand that life happens, so if you can’t make a meeting, there’ll still be a chance to share your thoughts and input in other ways.

Alongside our discussions, we also have some fun social activities to help everyone get to know each other, and a few training sessions to help you build skills you can use beyond the YAB, whether that’s communication, leadership, or something else entirely.
