We are seeking a new Finance and Administration Officer following the upcoming retirement of a long-serving team member. A key member of the SLA central office team, the Finance and Administration Officer plays a vital role in ensuring smooth financial operations and providing essential administrative support for our membership. In addition to administration support, this role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, book-keeping and effective day-to-day financial operations, producing financial reports using XERO and our CRM.
You will be experienced in financial and administration operations of a charity or similar , with an AAT qualification or matching worked experience. Familiarity with XERO will be an advantage. You will be able to bring understanding of cashflow and financial analysis of figure, working with accountants as required.
You will also have excellent customer service skills and be able to work effectively with all stakeholders from our members, to funders to suppliers. You will be determined and have an excellent eye for financial and administrative detail. Your duties will include general administration and:
Financial operations and record-keeping
- Manage day-to-day financial transactions and maintain accurate records of all SLA accounts and petty cash; book-keeping
- Process and record all incoming payments, including foreign cheques (into bank account)
- Monitor cashflow and expenditure, keeping track of spending
- Pay invoices upon approval and ensure timely monthly payments (e.g. pensions, HMRC)
- Handle creditor and supplier communications and resolve related issues
- Monitor and follow up on overdue payments with a focus on membership payments
Invoicing and income tracking
- Issue and track membership and subscriber invoices and reminders
- Keep office team informed of payment statuses
- Prepare sales, cost, and profit reports for SLA publications
- Conduct annual publications stock take
Payroll and reporting
- Liaise with the accountant on salary payments; process salary BACS payments
- Support year-end financial reporting by providing necessary documentation to accountants
- Produce regular financial reports and analysis as required
- Supporting preparation of budgets, working with accountants as required
Event financial administration
- Manage financial aspects of SLA events, particularly the annual conference (e.g., exhibitors, sponsors, and delegates)
- Process and record staff/trustee expense claims
- Support with bookings accommodation and travel for Board meetings
To be successful in this role you should demonstrate:
- Strong experience in financial and office administration
- Knowledge of accounting principles
- Experience of working with XERO or similar
- Experience of using CRM systems (ideally IMIS)
- Experience of working for a small charity and / or membership association
- Accuracy, numeracy, attention to detail
- Ability to manage own workload, prioritise and meet competing deadlines
- Excellent customer service manner
- Being a team player

About this Role
The Marketing and Communications Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing and promoting IAPO's mission and initiatives through effective marketing and communication strategies. The Officer will be responsible for developing and delivering advocacy campaigns and engagement activities, creating compelling content, managing social media channels, and amplifying IAPO's online presence and visibility within the global health community. The role requires creativity, strong communication skills, and a passion for non-profit work. The post holder will report to IAPO's Chief Executive Officer and work closely with all staff members.
The post holder must be prepared to work collaboratively in a relatively small team. They should be prepared to contribute to the friendly, positive and mutually supportive atmosphere that has been developed at IAPO. The post holder is expected to model IAPO’s values and to take an empowering approach to their work with IAPO’s members, within the staff team, and with other stakeholders.
It is essential that the post holder has experience in a related role such as communications officer, or other relevant position, for at least 3 years.

We are currently looking for a Training Support Officer to join our team.
About the role
This role provides tactical and targeted support to our District teams as we seek to enable our volunteers to deliver training to both cadets and volunteers in line with the Sea Cadets Learning Strategy. This post is responsible for supporting the delivery of the district training, including Royal Marine Cadet (RMC) training activity at Troop level. The work location can be flexible (home or office-based) requiring regular evening and weekend working supporting our volunteers by attending virtual meetings and delivering online training.
Responsibilities
- To provide functional support to our area Training Managers and District and RMC Troop Teams, ensure the district training plans are delivered, amended as necessary throughout the year, to the training plan and in line with identified training needed to best support the delivery of the Sea Cadet Experience.
- To support specific District Teams including the District Training Officer (DTO), District Recreational Officer/ Deputy District Officer (DRO/DDO), District Staff Officers (DSO), and RMC Troop Commanders (Trp Cdr) identified as requiring support under our change management process.
- To work closely with all District Officers to increase the number of certificated, current and competent instructors, and develop the capability and capacity of District Instructors to deliver training to cadets and volunteers across all Districts.
- To support the ATOs/DTOs/RMC Troops in all training matters (including uniformed and unit management teams) with a specific focus on Districts/Troops that need support.
- Support our Programmes and Virtual Training Manager with the co-ordination the of delivery of appropriate MSSC and other approved training packages (including BTEC, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award) appropriate to the age and experience of cadets across the organisation.
- Work under the leadership of our Assistant Director Sea Cadet Learning monitor performance against set targets set by the National Support Centre to ensure equitable access for cadets and adults to the Sea Cadet Experience.
Requirements

- Experience in working with youth groups and awareness and understanding on the challenges young people face.
- Experience in coordinating and supporting a programme of training activity.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring volunteers.
- Experience of drawing data to create support plans for delivery of activity.
- Experienced trainer with the ability to deliver engaging and impactful training.
