We have a job vacancy for a Dementia Specialist to join Shine as the Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) / Dementia Coordinator. 

Shine has a membership of over 14,000 members living with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus and associated conditions and over 6,500 associated members.

In the last year we have seen a 25% increase in members who are living with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. There are currently just over 600 members with NPH, plus their carers registered, but we are expecting this to continue to rise as awareness and diagnosis of the condition grows. 

We are looking for an experienced, skilled, organised and dedicated new staff member to join Shine’s Services team to develop and lead our new NPH service.

To be the Dementia specialist for Shine.

To provide the foundations for improved health, social and emotional outcomes for adults living with NPH/Dementia and to support their families/carers.

The Role

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work across both Houses of Parliament to ensure that our updated Safeguarding policy is effectively implemented and embedded across our varied teams.

The Parliamentary Estate is a mixed-use site, with many different activities involving a wide range of individuals: from members and staff of both Houses, to visitors on democratic access tours and attending proceedings, school children on educational tours, VIP visitors and parliamentary delegations, and tourists from all over the world.

You will need to work with teams across Parliament to understand these different activities, assess the risks of harm to children and adults at risk, the likelihood of those risks materialising, and how Parliament can effectively mitigate them. You will lead in the roll out of our updated Safeguarding policy alongside the development of a network of trained safeguarding coordinators, developing a community of interest to share best practice and guidance.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

• To be the lead source of advice and guidance on safeguarding policy and practice within Parliament.
• Support the work of the Safeguarding board, providing expert briefing, analysis and recommendations as required by the board.
• To act as an additional Designated Safeguarding Officer, supporting the work of the existing Designated Safeguarding Leads as required.
• To lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the new safeguarding policy, using a risk-based approach to embedding it in parliamentary activities, structures and culture.
• To establish a network of local safeguarding co-ordinators across Parliamentary teams

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

• Experience of successfully implementing safeguarding policy and guidance in an environment which, like Parliament, is a mixed-use site, with a wide range of activities and stakeholders. Evidence of using a risk-based approach to deliver robust and proportionate training, procedures and guidance in support of meeting statutory obligations.
• Specialist knowledge of safeguarding relating to children and adults at risk, with a demonstrable understanding of current legislation, including core principles and current best practice, and the ability to apply this in a pragmatic way relevant to our organisational context.

About the role

This is a new role and sits in the Fundraising and Digital Directorate. Project Management

• Manage our email welcome journey for e-news sign ups, and support on the development of other supporter journeys for a range of audiences across the team.
• Ensure continued communications and strong working relationships with the Direct Marketing Manager and Digital and Comms teams.
• Play an active role in coordinating digital communication plans across the organisation, working alongside the Direct Marketing Manager and Comms colleagues to suggest themes and content as well as creating/scheduling content as and when required.

Email Marketing

• Day-to-day management of the email marketing programme, including drafting, building and managing campaigns and automations, and managing audiences.
• Work with colleagues and draw on existing data to develop insights and understanding about our supporters. Use this information to develop content which is engaging, informative, and meets supporters’ needs.
• Provide support to the Public Fundraising team for all email content, and ensuring all content aligns with wider organisational goals and principles.
• Champion email marketing best practices across the organisation, providing advice and feedback to improve email engagement and effectiveness.

BACKGROUND 

Magic Breakfast is a registered charity providing healthy breakfasts to children and young people in the UK who arrive at school too hungry to learn, and expert support to their schools. Over 200,000 children and young people are on roll at Primary, Secondary, ASL / Special Educational Needs Schools and Pupil Referral Units that the charity works with, in disadvantaged areas of Scotland and England. JOB PURPOSE 

Magic Breakfast’s mission is to end child morning hunger in the UK now and for good. The Service Delivery team is responsible for ensuring the delivery of our breakfast provision. As Engagement Partner, you will work with relevant partners (schools, local authorities, parents, parent councils) to ensure that breakfast provision is optimized, encouraging reach and providing education on relevant topics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Pipeline development and cultivation:   

• To develop a relationship with the supported schools in their respective area, to enable, preserve, embed, enhance and extend stigma and barrier free breakfast pron.

• To educating and engage with the wider school community, including teachers, parents and children and young people on the importance of breakfast and implications of hunger as a barrier learning through various means including assemblies, staff meetings, online events and regional events throughout the academic year.

• To engage with the wider community to advocate for the importance of breakfast, the work that we are doing in existing schools and to support our campaigning and advocacy strategy and plans.

• To develop brand awareness in schools and local communities in line with our marketing strategy

• To support the recruitment of new schools with launching new breakfast provisions, adapting to the requirements of the school and children and young people, and advising on best practise

• To support any media requests as directed through the Policy & Engagement team

• To capture and report on “storytelling” to enable the organisation to utilise qualitative data to support external communication

• To explore, share and deliver on new engagement ideas across the department and organisation

• Supporting and overseeing World Jewish Relief’s Young Committee by assisting with the delivery of their events and attending committee meetings
• Liaising with colleagues and partners to organise supporter Insight Trips: creating itineraries, booking transport and managing all details.
• Supporting and assisting donors who are planning events to raise funds for World Jewish Relief.
• Working with the communications team to organise World Jewish Relief’s participation at communal events and attend these events.
• Managing and leading on stewardship of World Jewish Relief runners in the London Marathon and other challenge event activities.
• Working with the fundraising and marketing team to launch and deliver a new fundraising initiative supporting World Jewish Relief's Home Repairs programmes in Ukraine.

You should have:

• Proven experience in event planning, coordination and delivery to a high standard, preferably within the non-profit sector.
• Demonstrable knowledge of event fundraising techniques and sector trends.
• Experience using a database (ideally Raiser’s Edge) to the highest level, both to record and analyse information.
• Experience in successfully managing numerous priorities at one time, meeting tight and non-negotiable deadlines.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
• Excellent administrative skills, impeccable accuracy and attention to detail.

London National Park City is looking for a highly collaborative Community Director to join our growing team. You will help us develop and enhance the way all Londoners can participate every day in making our city greener, healthier and wilder.

London National Park City is the long term grassroots movement for everyone making London greener, healthier and wilder. London became the world's first National Park City in 2019 with aim of making our city a place where people and nature are better connected.

This new senior role will be responsible for developing a deeply participatory approach to what it means to be part of the London National Park City community and movement. You will draw upon the wealth of experiments, storytelling, and community programming which has already taken place, and shape the next stage of how we build our movement, and support grassroots communities in every neighbourhood of London.

The core of this role will be the stewardship of our Ranger programme, supporting our community of volunteer Rangers, along with recruiting and managing local Ranger Coordinators in a number of London Boroughs as funding is secured. Key to this will be developing relationships with partner civil society organisations, and working closely with our Partnerships Manager.

You’ll be experienced in building and supporting ‘on’ and ‘offline’ communities, and keen to learn and adopt new and engaging approaches to membership, while sharing what you learn with the wider team and community.

You’ll be disciplined, organised and an excellent verbal and written communicator. You’ll be creative, and willing to chip in, helping out across the organisation, and keeping all our stakeholders and partners informed.

You do not need to have a university degree to apply for this role, and we’ll provide you with additional training and mentoring as you develop your skills.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for developing our overall approach to community building and participatory membership for individuals, and those from community and civil society groups, and business or corporate members. Your primary responsibility will be evolving and supporting the development of our volunteer Ranger community, enabling each Ranger to be more impactful within their own communities.

Community Membership

• Develop programmes and communications which allow every Londoner to contribute towards delivering the goals and commitments set out in the Charter for London National Park City.
• Detail and implement pathways for everyone to participate and contribute in expanding the reach and impact of London National Park City., and lead and participate in activities within their communities.
• Gather and share activities and contributions from our community, with regular updates on member activities, and collaborations.
• Support ongoing improvements to our email and social media signup journeys on our websites, using ConvertKit, Copper CRM and other tools.
• Contribute membership content to our online Mighty Networks community, websites, email and social media campaigns.

Ranger Community

• Understand and represent the broad needs of our Ranger community and what they need to actively lead greater participation with London National Park City.
• Maintain contacts and working relationships with London National Park City Rangers supporting them to inspire Londoners to make the city greener, healthier and wilder and helping more people to enjoy being outdoors.
• Report on Ranger activities, connections and communities, and where appropriate, work with Rangers to support London National Park City with campaigns and activities.
• Lead on the recruitment and appointment of new Rangers, including evolving and improving our induction and ongoing training offer.
• Share Ranger stories and support the development of media assets to promote the Rangers and their work.
• Manage the Ranger programme budget and allocation of spending.
• As funding allows, and with the support of the Executive Director, recruit and manage local Ranger coordinators.

You will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with your colleagues in our staff team and with our wider group of volunteers.

Requirements

We’re looking for an experienced, ambitious and dedicated colleague who will be able to appropriately prioritise as we secure additional funding and steadily expand our small staff team.

• Experience in an equivalent community management, membership or partnership, or demonstrable experience of transferable skills.
• Demonstrable experience of movement and community building both on and offline, with strong digital skills and a strong affinity of the role of participatory membership.
• An ability to communicate, present to, and coordinate with a wide range of people at all levels of a variety of organisations.
• Excellent oral and written communication in a clear, concise, accessible and effective manner.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is essential.
• Ability to effectively plan and prioritise workload within deadlines, and to set and meet high standards of delivery.
• Demonstrable experience of managing budgets and careful setting of priorities and making trade offs in a small growing team.
• Willingness to work outside of office hours from time to time as the role requires.
• Commitment to the vision of London as a National Park City and the success of the Ranger Programme.

Salary and benefits

You will be joining and fully participating in a unique and inspirational community of changemakers and storytellers, active across London and increasingly around the world.

This is a permanent role and the salary range is £45,000 to £50,000 dependent on experience. We are open to applications for part-time or other flexible working arrangements.

You will have 25 holiday days allowance per year (pro rata for part-time staff).

Following successful completion of a 3 month probationary period, we will enrol you in our Nest pension scheme, and will make additional payments of 4% as long as you contribute 4% of your salary each month.

This role will predominantly be carried out in person at our Visitors Centre in London and remotely from home, with regular meetings and site visits across London, so you must be based in the UK and be prepared for regular travel.

What the job involves

As a Policy and Health Influencing Officer, you’ll be helping deliver impactful changes that measurably improve men’s experience in their access to and quality of prostate cancer diagnosis, treatment, care and support. You’ll be joining a multi-disciplinary team which also includes volunteers and partners all working towards the same aims.

You’ll be supporting complex and politically sensitive projects to drive change across the UK’s health services and other providers at local, regional and national levels. Bringing together your knowledge and experience of engaging with stakeholders, on a one-to-one and mass level basis, you’ll effect change by utilising effective tools and approaches and deliver projects or campaigns achieving our strategic aims.

Through building relationships with health services and systems you’ll be able to understand the obstacles to improving care and work collaboratively with others to help overcome these. As part of your role, you’ll also be developing resources for campaigning, influencing and policy work using a host of digital tools (including social media and online channels). By keeping up to date with health news and the changing environment in all areas relating to prostate cancer will help to influence your work.

What we want from you

We’re looking for an excellent communicator, you’ll be communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external at all levels. With an excellent knowledge of UK health services, policy and systems you’ll understand how they operate politically, financially and clinically. Using these skills, you’ll have experience in influencing strategic partnerships and building relationships with those that can influence healthcare matters and bring about change improving the experience of men.

You’ll have project management experience with the ability to gain engagement with health, political and public stakeholders. In addition, you’ll have experience in working on change campaigns which involve public participation using social media and online channels.

Although not essential for the role, it would be beneficial if you have experience in either driving service improvements, interventions to improve health outcomes, developing and influencing local or national policies or engaging with politicians to deliver campaign objectives.

Family Rights Group is the leading child welfare charity, and is rolling out its highly successful Lifelong Links programme in London for care experienced young people. As part of that work, we have received funding to create this exciting new post which is ideal for a young people participation expert. 

The Young People’s Participation Officer will build on and continue to develop the charity's young people's participation activities so that young people inform, influence and help to deliver the strategic priorities of the charity. Over time, you will be tasked with setting up and supporting groups of care experienced young people who will be integral to the development, influence and promotion of Lifelong Links-related work including the Lifelong Links: London project.

Alongside the Lifelong Links participation work, you'll support other young people who have experience of the child welfare system or were raised in kinship care, to have their voices heard. You will work closely with others within the charity, including members of the Senior Leadership Team, FGC and Lifelong Links Team, Policy Team and with the charity’s Family Participation Officer.
