At TOP UK we know how distressing and overwhelming OCD and phobias can be. Nearly 40 years of experience tells us that both conditions have a hugely negative impact on people’s lives. Fear and anxiety are incredibly unpleasant emotions and to frequently experience these emotions on a large scale is traumatic and debilitating. No one deserves that.

At TOP UK we also know that OCD and phobias are poorly understood, under-funded and stigmatised despite affecting millions of people. OCD and phobia sufferers often tell us how misunderstanding of their conditions leaves them feeling isolated, alone and afraid to seek help. At TOP UK, we believe no one should feel alone in facing their fears 

It is an exciting but testing time at TOP UK and we have just launched an ambitious three-year strategy. While we are eager to embark on this new stage of development for our organisation it comes with an acknowledgment that we are working in particularly uncertain and stressful times and there is a greater need to grow our service than ever before. Demand for our service is at an all-time high and continues to grow, currently dramatically outstripping our capacity. Mental health services are at breaking point leaving those with OCD and Phobias often finding it impossible to find help and dealing with debilitating conditions alone.

Meeting this demand will be a challenge, but it is a challenge we are ready and willing to push for but in order to grow and build our organisation we are keen to evolve, enhance and diversify our Board of Trustees

The role is open to those from the public, private and voluntary sectors. You should be someone with a genuine interest in mental health and we are ideally looking for individuals with any of the following experience: Charity Governance; IT & Digital;Marketing, Communications and Brand; Fundraising: Diversity and Inclusion.

What we do

We help everyone use parks and their transformative health and wellbeing benefits. DEFRA estimates that if everyone spent time in parks, the NHS could save £2.1 billion a year, however often the people who could benefit most from using parks, do not.

We work with under-served communities to help them spend time in green space and we support small groups and community organisations to do the same. From supporting people with complex mental health needs to connect with nature and build community, to identifying and removing physical barriers to park access, we work to make sure parks fulfil their potential as free to use, community assets.

The role

As a Trustee with a Human Resources background, you will take the lead at board level, whilst ensuring that the collective responsibility of the Trustees for the management, support and development of our staff is maintained. All Trustees share responsibility for the organisation.

The main responsibilities of a Trustee is to:

• oversee the strategic direction of the charity as it scales to meet demand, and support the CEO in managing this growth;
• use their expertise to help guide the process;
• ensure the organisation works within the law and in line with its governing document and policies;
• keep informed about the activities of the charity in order to maintain effective oversight;
• take a financial overview and ensure that the organisation’s finances are adequate and responsibly managed;
• promote the work and safeguard the reputation of Your Park Bristol and Bath.

Skills and experience needed

You do not need to have prior experience of being a Trustee or experience working with boards. We will provide training to fully induct you into the role and you will be buddied up with one of our longer standing trustees to support you in your first six months.

We are primarily looking for HR professionals who are passionate about the potential of Bristol and Bath’s parks and want to help everyone experience their benefits.

Calibre Audio is a national charity providing an audiobook and audio content service to anyone who is print disabled.

You don’t need to have been a Trustee before, but you do need to be willing to do some training to help you understand the role and the responsibilities that come with it.

Expenses

You won’t get paid for your time, but we’ll make sure you aren’t out of pocket by covering the cost of your travel to meetings, childcare or other care if you need it, and a range of other expenses you might have while doing the role. We’ll book and/or pay for these in advance if you prefer.

We are looking to recruit a Treasurer to join our board of trustees. The Treasurer, in addition to their role as trustee will oversee income, expenditure and support SCIP to manage cash flow and safeguard the charity. 

We are looking for new trustees with experience of working in HR or fundraising to join our experienced and committed board. We are particualrly interetested in trustees who have lived experience of migration, either from claiming asylum in the UK or navigating the immigration system. You will join our main trustee board and one of our committees depending on your expertise.

LRMN exists to empower refugees and other migrants and to bring about systemic change to remove the challenges they face. Our services include providing specialist legal advice on immigration, housing and welfare, supporting those who need to improve their skills through training and volunteering as well as helping them gain employment.  We support women who survived gender-based abuse including rape, trafficking, domestic violence and more and we offer them 1:1 counselling and therapeutic activities.  In addition, we provide mental health and well-being support to those who are suffering from non-clinical mental health issues. We advocate and campaign against policies that are not fair and just and which uphold hostile environment. We also provide hardship funds and food parcels to destitute clients.

As a trustee you will be expected to attend a quarterly board meeting, join a sub-committee which also meets quarterly and offer support relevant to your expertise. We have three sub-committees: Organisation Development; Finance, Risk and Compliance; and Fundraising and Marketing. Meetings normally take place in the evening from 6pm and last about 2 hours. The sub-committee meetings are online and the full board meetings are a mix of online and in-person meetings. You will need to be able to attend face to face meetings in London.

West Kirby School & College is seeking to appoint a Trustee with Responsibility for Human Resources

Commitment: Around 12 days per year

Role Overview: A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a high calibre and committed Trustee with responsibility for Human Resources to join our Governing Board and vibrant School community.
To excel in this role, you will have proven experience of working within HR management / employment law, perhaps in a HR leadership role, or as a solicitor practising in employment law.

The main purpose of the role is to provide support to the Board of Trustees with administration particularly with regard to ensuring compliance with the statutory and regulatory requirements and assist the Board in complying with the charity’s governing document.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Being familiar with the charity’s governing document, the legal responsibilities of charities under the Charities Act 2009 and the charity’s internal governance rules

Ensuring that charity trustees file all relevant statutory returns and information with the Charities Regulator (e.g. annual reports, changes to the charity’s details and/or trustees’ details);

Ensuring that the board of charity trustees are aware of the requirements to comply with the relevant codes such as the charity’s Code of Conduct for Charity Trustees and the Charities Governance Code;

Ensuring that decisions and actions of the board of trustees are accurately recorded and implemented;

Assist the Chairperson(s) of the board with the agenda for each board meeting including the management of any agenda items received from other charity trustees; sending notification of board meetings; circulating board papers/pack in advance of meetings and dealing with any associated matters;

Taking the minutes at board meetings and maintaining the records of all meeting minutes; keeping a record of all issues discussed, decisions taken and any actions required to implement a decision;

Working with the Chairperson(s) to ensure that the draft minutes are accurate; Issuing minutes to charity trustees for consideration after board meetings and dealing with any subsequent requests for corrections to be made before they are  formally approved;

Ensuring that minutes are stored safely and are accessible by the Chairperson(s) of the board and any other charity trustee if required;

Provide support in setting up and running any Annual General Meeting (AGM) or Extraordinary General Meetings (EGMs) as required.

Person Specification:

The Chester Bluecoat Charity, the longest standing charity in Chester, is currently searching for inspirational individuals to join our board as a volunteer trustee to help steer the charity as it strives to raise the bar on the positive impact it has in the city and surrounding areas.

Based in the historic Bluecoat Building, in the heart of the City of Chester, we work to change the lives of people in need in three distinct ways:

• Grant Giving – We award grants to organisations that use education and community development to improve peoples’ lives.
• Rentable office and meeting room space at our Bluecoat Building – We offer third sector office space to local charities and voluntary organisations, as well as meeting rooms for hire to businesses throughout the city.
• Almshouses – We provide Almshouse accommodation for people in need in the 16 Almshouses that we own and maintain which are situated at rear of the Bluecoat Building.

At its core, the charity owns several properties in Chester which enables us to generate a rental income, and subsequently provide Almshouse accommodation and office space to Third Sector organisations. These funds also allow the charity to provide grants and support to organisations such as Blacon Beacon, Koala, KidsBank and Platform for Life, to name but a few…

How will I make a difference?

You will be part a charity that tackles the causes of poverty, inequality, and disadvantage in and around Chester by using our resources effectively to provide grants to other organisations and charities, amongst other work.

Our trustees dedicate around 5-10 hours a month to The Chester Bluecoat Charity by attending internal meetings and assisting the team in delivering our strategy.

When would I participate in trustee meetings?

The main board meet 6 times a year. Trustees are appointed for an initial term of three years, with the possibility of two further terms.

Trustee meetings are usually held at The Bluecoat on Upper Northgate Street, Chester, however these may also be joined virtually.

About Vocal Advocacy

Vocal is a small independent advocacy organisation operating in South and West Devon including Torbay, that helps adults with communication difficulties to understand and exercise their rights, make informed choices and speak up for themselves. Our main activity is one-to-one advocacy, however we also offer services including training, person centred planning and independent quality monitoring or care packages.

We have a reputation locally for the high quality of its services. We hold the national advocacy quality mark.  We may be small, but we are effective, enthusiastic and innovative. 

What will you be doing?

We are all dedicated to ensuring that the aims of the organisation are achieved and that people's rights are upheld. One of the trustees has been on the management committee, in various roles, since the organisation was founded 29 years ago. Their hard work was recognised when DeVA selected them for ‘trustee of the year winners’ at the Devon Community Foundation volunteer of the year awards ceremony. Our Board needs to encompass a wider range of skills, especially around strategic planning and marketing in order to drive the success of our development project. What are we looking for?

We are looking for passionate people to join our Board. You don't need to have a background in health and social care or in supporting people who have a learning disability, but you must share our passion for ensuring people's rights!

We particularly wish to broaden our skill base of the Board to support our Chief Officer through the development of the organisation.

Key areas are skills in income generation, strategic and business planning, marketing and communications. We would welcome a Trustee with finance/ accountancy background to take on the Treasurer role in due course.

In terms of planning for the future, our Chair would like to have a succession plan in place, should she decide to step down in a few years time, and it would be good to recruit trustees who might be interested in and be suitable future leaders for the charity.

Online Fundraising: Provide oversight and guidance of our online fundraising campaigns, including crowdfunding, peer-to-peer fundraising and digital marketing initiatives. Monitor campaign performance and adapt strategies as needed.

Budget Oversight: Collaborate with the finance committee to develop and manage the fundraising budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial goals.

Compliance and Reporting: Ensure that Focus’s fundraising activities comply with legal requirements.

Advocacy and Public Relations: Act as an ambassador for Focus Birmingham advocating for the rights and needs of adults with disabilities. Assist in developing public relations strategies to raise awareness and support for the cause.

Strategic experience: Proven track record in fundraising at a senior level, with a deep understanding of various fundraising methods, including grants, major gifts, events, and online campaigns.

Strong Networks in Birmingham: A skilled networker with strong networks in Birmingham and wider West Midlands area.

As we have a number of members retiring this year, we are currently looking for governors to join the Corporation Board. We are seeking experienced individuals, looking for an opportunity to use, and develop, their professional skills in a board-level environment. This is a really exciting time to join us at Preston College, as we implement our new Strategic Plan.

Being a governor is a hugely rewarding leadership role. Governors can make a real difference and give something back to the local community.

At the moment, we are looking for new governors with background and experience of one, or more, of the following areas:

-   Finance/ resources

- Audit and Risk

- Estates Management.
