JOB PURPOSE
The Major Giving Manager – Trusts and Foundations will sit within the newly formed Major Giving team, playing a pivotal role in driving new business and helping to deliver £3.36m of income across major giving in the financial year 2025/26.
Reporting to the Major Giving Lead – Trusts & Foundations, this role will lead on new business development within the trusts and foundations portfolio, with a strong focus on identifying, cultivating, and securing support from new funders. The postholder will be expected to proactively generate and pursue opportunities, using creativity, insight, and strong relationship-building skills to grow a robust pipeline of high-value prospects.
This role will involve actively networking, attending events, initiating and developing relationships with prospective funders, and creating compelling, tailored proposals to secure significant new income. Alongside this primary focus on new business, the postholder will also contribute to the stewardship and growth of existing funders to maximise long-term value and impact.
Working collaboratively across the wider Major Giving team, the role will support cross-portfolio opportunities and integrated cultivation strategies, and where appropriate, flex to support engagement with individual donors. The postholder will also work closely with the Business Development Lead in Scotland to ensure a coordinated and strategic approach to prospecting, relationship management, and pipeline development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES New Business
Lead the development and delivery of new business across the trusts and foundations portfolio, driving a significant contribution to the Major Giving target of £3.36m in 2025/26 and building a strong pipeline for future years.
Proactively identify, research and pursue high-value funding opportunities, using insight, creativity, and sector knowledge to generate a strong and diverse prospect pipeline, and working collaboratively with the Major Giving team to share intelligence and avoid duplication.
Take ownership of cultivating new prospects, initiating and developing relationships through networking, events, and direct engagement, and confidently progressing opportunities from early-stage prospecting through to secured income.
Prepare, develop and submit compelling, high-quality proposals and budgets tailored to funder priorities, with a strong focus on securing larger, multi-year and strategic funding opportunities (£50,000+).
Design and implement proactive and strategic cultivation pathways for new funders, including multi-touch engagement plans and partnership approaches with colleagues to strengthen relationships and maximise conversion.
Work cross-organisationally to identify, shape and develop fundable projects, proactively aligning organisational priorities with funder interests to unlock new income opportunities.
Contribute to the development of compelling cases for support and propositions, using insights from the trusts and foundations landscape to inform and strengthen wider major giving and philanthropic strategies.
Work closely with the Business Development Lead in Scotland to proactively coordinate and drive approaches to trusts and foundations based in Scotland, aligning on prospecting, relationship development, proposal activity and pipeline growth.
Act as a key driver of new business momentum across the wider Major Giving team, flexing to support pipeline development, cultivation and conversion activity across portfolios, including with individual major donors where required.
Account management
Successfully manage relationships within your own portfolio of trusts and foundations, ensuring timely reporting and effective communication.
Champion the interests of major giving and trusts and foundations across the organisation, ensuring grant conditions are met and project outcomes are achieved.
Support the team to deliver strategic, multi-year partnerships and steward key funders.
Adopt a relationship management approach that integrates with the wider Major Giving team’s stewardship framework – creating holistic experiences for funders who support across multiple income streams.
Flex to provide stewardship support across major giving, where necessary working to develop relationships and high quality stewardship with individual donors and family foundations.
Collaborate with the Business Development Lead in Scotland to ensure consistent and high-quality stewardship for Scottish-based funders, sharing insight and best practice.
Cross-Team Collaboration
Support our department approach to ‘one-team’ by acting as a bridge between Trusts, Corporate and Major Donor functions, ensuring shared insight, coordination of funder approaches, and alignment of messaging and impact reporting.
Work with Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships colleagues to identify overlapping funder networks and co-create engagement opportunities (e.g., joint briefings, events, or site visits).
Collaborate proactively with the Business Development Lead in Scotland to ensure that opportunities, reporting, and engagement in Scotland align with national fundraising priorities.
Contribute to the Major Giving team’s collective cultivation and stewardship calendar, ensuring trust and foundation supporters are part of key strategic engagement moments.
Management and Leadership
Support the development of junior members within the Major Giving team (e.g., Major Giving Administrator), providing guidance and feedback to maintain a high standard of proposals and stewardship materials.
Work with the Major Giving Leads and the Head of Major Giving to support the forecasting of income from current and potential donors.
Deputise for the Major Giving Lead – Trust and Foundations where necessary.

Take an active role in helping to set, deliver, and evaluate progress against the Major Giving team strategy and goals, especially those relating to Trusts & Foundations.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge and Experience
Proven experience of securing significant new funding from trusts and foundations (ideally £50,000+), with a strong track record in new business development, or relevant transferable experience.
Demonstrable success in identifying, cultivating and converting new prospects into long-term funding relationships.
Experience of building and managing a robust prospect pipeline, from initial research through to secured income.
Experience of working with databases (Salesforce experience desirable) to support pipeline development, tracking and income generation.

A key element of Trussell’s high value income is from individual donors and Trusts, who support our work and mission. The Philanthropy Officer is accountable for managing a caseload of trusts and major donors who are giving up to £10k annually, stewarding them effectively to help secure income to fund Trussell’s work.

· Advise staff on Internews’ internal and donor rules across the project cycle.
· Work with Programme Officers and cross-functional teams on effective project start‑up, including inductions, adapting award procedures/templates, and ongoing staff training; conduct country visits when required.
· Collaborate with Finance to support successful programme audits.
· Maintain and update organisational data on institutional donor platforms (e.g., EU Transparency Register, IATI).
· Develop and maintain training materials and guidelines for at least one major donor; provide expert compliance guidance across GCC.
· Deliver inductions and training for new and junior GCC staff.
· Set up and maintain complete and up‑to‑date award records in line with donor and Internews requirements.
Development
· At proposal stage, review and approve teaming agreements and NDAs with bid partners.
· Review and approve donor budget submissions, ensuring accuracy, consistency, compliance, and adequacy.
· Coordinate pre‑award due diligence for prospective donors.
· Review and negotiate donor agreements and modifications, managing associated risks.
· Establish and maintain proposal, award, and contract records within the award management system, including significant data entry.
Procurement Management
· Advise staff on procurement requirements and maintain internal records for procurements under awards.
· Support development of compliant procurement plans.
· Lead and administer higher‑value procurements, including negotiating contractor terms.
· Draft and execute sub‑contracts and amendments in full compliance with donor and Internews policies.
· Troubleshoot contractual issues, prepare termination notices, and manage related risks.
· Prepare procurement documentation for audits and serve as point of contact for procurement audit processes.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Line‑manage GCC staff when assigned.

· University degree in a relevant field or equivalent lived/professional experience.
· Extensive senior-level experience in award management within an international nonprofit or international development organisation.
· Demonstrated hands‑on experience interpreting and applying donor rules and compliance requirements (especially European Commission, FCDO, and SIDA) in real project implementation contexts.
· Proven experience managing procurements and negotiating contracts, including drafting and executing agreements and amendments in compliance with donor and organisational requirements.

About the role
Research has shown that there is significant potential for new and existing wealth holders to use their resources to fund climate action, and demand for trusted advisors to accelerate both the pace and efficacy of philanthropy. The Impatience Earth team has a track record of delivering quality philanthropy advisory for climate action, and with a growing team we have the capacity to take on new clients.
As the Philanthropy Catalyst Lead, you will be instrumental in building a strong pipeline of clients who would benefit from our climate advisory services. You are someone who is comfortable connecting with and engaging wealth holders, such as high-net worth individuals, family foundations and corporate foundations that have the potential to commit substantial resources (£200k+ year) to climate action.
These clients may be based in the UK or Europe (as reflects the majority of our client base so far) although you will also work with colleagues engaged in catalysing philanthropy in other regions of the world.
You will report directly to the Co-CEO, but also work closely with other members of the team and partners such as the Environmental Funders Network (EFN) to grow climate philanthropy. This is not a fundraising role for Impatience Earth: the primary focus will be to further develop and hone our business development strategy; to find, qualify and cultivate prospects; and to support the delivery of advisory services as needed once prospects are converted into clients.
About Impatience Earth
Impatience Earth is a non-profit climate philanthropy consultancy founded in 2020 with a mission to educate, challenge and inspire wealth holders to take bolder funding decisions to address the climate emergency.
Since 2020, our engagement with over 40 philanthropic foundations and businesses has supported them to make over £250m of new funding available for climate action, and we have already helped them make grants to over 200 different organisations. A great deal of these clients have come from word of mouth and from within our team’s existing connections, and we are now looking to expand our reach beyond our own network.
We have ambitious plans to unlock greater funding for intersectional climate justice work, with bespoke advisory for new climate funders continuing to be a core pillar of our 2026-2030 strategic plan.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Further developing our business development strategy. This would include:
Reviewing and assessing previous and existing business development activities, and prioritising actions
Identifying key target audiences and referral partners
Proposing realistic and stretch targets for our business development activities
Developing concise and effective communications for our target audience, for example, by crafting compelling outreach emails
Researching, qualifying and engaging with prospective clients. This would include:
Using your past experience of engaging wealth holders to suggest new business development or prospect research ideas
Reviewing funder databases for leads and relevant information
Initiating a new (simple!) system of tracking client leads from identification to conversion
Arranging and joining scoping conversations with potential clients
Identifying events and spaces to engage with prospective clients
Initiating and managing key relationships. This would include:
Stewarding prospective clients who are not yet ready to engage with our services
Re-engaging and managing strong relationships with key referral partners and intermediaries, such as EFN, private banks, wealth advisors, family offices and other philanthropy advisors
Representing Impatience Earth externally at meetings and events to meet our business development objectives
Working closely with colleagues to integrate business development across programmes. This would include:
Working with Impatience Earth colleagues who lead our Strategic Communications, Global South and International Partnerships work to guide and support their activities around business development
General support and advice to strengthen all staff members’ business development knowledge and skills
Support client delivery. As and when you convert prospects into clients, we may need you to support client leads with delivery. This might include arranging and facilitating expert meetings and strategy sessions.
What we’re looking for
At least 3 years previous experience of working in major gift fundraising, trust and foundation fundraising, private wealth advisory, or similar that gives you insight and knowledge into the philanthropic landscape, HNWIs, and the networks and ecosystem in which they operate
Someone who enjoys engaging with philanthropists in-person and at events, and comfortable having interesting but sometimes challenging conversations
A proven track record of converting leads into confirmed high value clients (or funders) at the 6- or 7-figure level and managing successful relationships with them
Strong research skills, including ability to use datasets and access information to find and qualify prospects
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A self starter who is able to think both creatively and strategically about business development; able to work independently but also as part of a dynamic and highly collaborative team
Confidence engaging with different types of stakeholders, especially high net worth individuals, and the emotional intelligence and social skills to build genuine, trusted relationships
A good understanding of the role of philanthropy in the context of social, economic and climate injustices
Committed to tackling the climate crisis with a good grasp of its causes and solutions - though our team will provide training if you have not worked in a climate-focused role before

This is a key fundraising role within a small and collaborative charity team.
As Fundraising Lead, you will play an important part in developing and delivering a diversified fundraising pipeline, with a particular focus on trusts and foundations, alongside philanthropy and selected partnership opportunities.
