The vacancy
You will be central to the leadership and management of Outward Bound and realising the ambition set out in The Next Horizon, leading the financial stewardship of the organisation. You will both oversee the management of the organisation’s financial resources and provide leadership in their utilisation to further the charity’s mission. You will also be responsible for the organisation’s environmental sustainability journey, and for IT, Digital, and trust-wide systems and processes.
The location for the post-holder is flexible, although will require frequent working from the Head Office near Penrith and regular travel for Board, Senior Management and other meetings.
About you
The successful candidate will be central to the leadership and management of the charity in the coming years working closely with the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team. You will be astute, collaborative, risk aware, have an attention to detail and thrive on working in a fast paced environment.
A fully qualified accountant with proven experience at a senior level in a finance role with responsibility across the whole finance function, you will have substantial financial leadership and commercial acumen. Experience in a national level organisation of comparable complexity is also required.

The Head of Finance will lead on budgeting, financial management and reporting and work closely with the Chief Executive to provide effective financial direction to the Treasurer and the Board of Trustees.
You will provide financial leadership overseeing all aspects of the organisation’s finances and in ensuring that it complies with relevant legislation and principles. You will be responsible for efficient policies, procedures, systems and practices to support the smooth running of the organisation and will be proactive in developing new systems and processes to meet the needs of the British Deaf Association (BDA) as it grows. As Head of Finance, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing the financial planning cycles, governance, and management reporting process as well as managing relationships with external stakeholders/advisers ensuring value for money, contractual compliance, evaluation and quality assurance processes.
With prior experience of working with charities’ accounts as well as experience of Sage accounting system used at the BDA, you will manage the Finance team and provide excellent business service and support to circa 28 staff across the UK.

The Director of Finance Business Partnering (Operations) is a critical role within the Financial Strategy, Planning & Performance division that will lead, develop and deliver high quality finance business partnering and decision support to all the central services of the university, including providing financial planning, reporting and insight across revenue and capital funded activity.

About the role
Reporting to the CFO, the Head of Finance is responsible for leading a team of 5 and overseeing the day-to-day financial management of the charity, supporting and developing its financial strategies. Financial Strategy and Policy
- Support the Charity’s Executive Team with ensuring the short, medium and long term financial health of the organisation
- Collaborate with the Charity’s SMT to prepare business cases and financial models to support new business activities and investment proposals
- Review and update the charities financial policies
- Cultivate a support structure across the organisation where the finance department acts as a trusted business partner for operations and management
Reporting
- Oversee all financial reporting processes for the Charity, ensuring that accurate, timely and relevant information is disseminated across the organisation

Statutory Reporting, Audit & Risk
- Manage the Charity’s financial statutory compliance for both audit and regulatory matters and oversee the finance risk register

- Prepare the financial disclosures sections of the Charity ‘s annual reports and the accompanying narrative to explain the financial performance of the year

Cash Flow Management
- Monitory the Charity’s cash flow, manage the working capital controls and produce cashflow reports and forecasts
- Oversee the Charity’s cash flow management processes and report on cash flow performance against budget and forecast targets.
- Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts which provide a consistently reliable understanding of the organisation’s cash flow position over the financial year.
Finance Department Development
- Design and implement learning and development frameworks for each member of the Finance department.
- Ensure that each member of the Finance department is sufficiently supported to fulfil their performance development goals.
About you
- Qualified Accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent)
- Experience of audit and preparation of annual financial accounts under UK GAAP and understanding of Charity SORP
- Experience of leading and developing Finance teams

Role Overview:
The purpose of the Executive Director roles within Depaul is to ensure that the organisation’s vision, mission and values are delivered through a strategic, shared approach by the Trustee Board, Executive Team and wider workforce.
As the appointed candidate, you will manage the Finance and IT departments and provide strategic and operational management of financial and budgetary processes, ensuring sound, prudent, financial management in compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements, underpinned by relevant policies and procedures.
You will provide support for income generation, and other service activity, to secure financial sustainability.
You will also report to the CEO and manager a team of 10 people - currently 8 FTE in Finance and 2 FTE in IT, including 2 direct reports – Financial Controller and Head of IT & Systems.
As part of responsibilities, you be attend meetings of the Council of Trustees, the Trustees’ Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (FARC) and the Depaul Housing Services Board.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a financial service to Depaul UK that meets regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Ensure robust systems and processes for financial planning, analysis and reporting.
- Preparation of the annual statutory accounts and corporate reports to Depaul International, owning an effective relationship with external auditors.
- Support and guide budget holders and senior managers in their financial management responsibilities and produce the annual budget and periodic reforecasting.
- Provide strategic oversight, and monitoring, of the corporate risk register reporting to the CEO and Finance, Audit and Risk Committee.
- Support ICT systems development ensuring that all ICT is strategically planned and fit for purpose, delivering cost savings and efficiency wherever possible.

What We Are Looking For – Person Specification:
- Fully qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA), with post-qualification experience in senior financial management positions and a track record of producing financial strategy, planning, reporting, monitoring and budgeting.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of UK financial regulations, including Charity SORP and its application
- An excellent people manager, with demonstrable experience of leading and driving change programs
- Experience of working in a senior leadership/executive team
