Public Affairs Officer (Built Environment Futures Assembly)

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to play a key role in the University’s public affairs and stakeholder engagement work, helping to shape the built environment and higher education sector through effective engagement, education and collaboration.

As the Public Affairs Officer, you will assist in planning and coordinating engagement activities and events, to support the delivery of our influencing strategy. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to Built Environment Futures Assembly (BEFA) – a newly established initiative seeking to support future skills in the built environment. You will be integral in engaging with stakeholders and enabling collaboration, making a meaningful contribution to creating a better built environment.

Your accountabilities and responsibilities include:

• Support the delivery of the University’s public affairs and influencing activities, including coordination of the Built Environment Futures Assembly (BEFA)
• Plan and deliver engagement activities and events that showcase our expertise, promote collaboration, and contribute to positive sector change
• Provide related public affairs expertise and advice across the University, participating in cross-organisational events and initiatives to align efforts and share insights

nia has been delivering services to women, girls and children who have been subjected to sexual and domestic violence and abuse, including prostitution, since 1975. nia is a professionally approved member of Rape Crisis England and Wales; an umbrella organisation supporting Rape Crisis Centres across the country. Rape Crisis is completely independent of the government and the criminal justice system.

East London Rape Crisis provides free, confidential specialist support for women and girls who have been raped or experienced any other form of sexual violence or abuse at any time in their lives, regardless of whether or not they have reported to the police. We offer confidential and independent support. Services include advocacy, emotional and practical support, one-to-one counselling and group work. The service is provided across Barking & Dagenham, Hackney, Havering, Redbridge, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

We form part of the London Sexual Violence Alliance. The Alliance brings together 225 years of expertise and experience and represents a bold, visionary and survivor-centred resource. The Alliance consists of eight members. Seven are organisations that have historically, and or currently, provide support for victims/survivors. MOPAC is the eighth member, primarily sitting at the oversight and leadership governance level.

About the role

In the role of Counsellor, you will provide one to one counselling and group therapy to survivors of sexual violence. You will work as part of a growing feminist Rape Crisis service that is developing to meet the needs of women and girls. Counselling is delivered face to face, online and via the phone.

We are looking for counsellors who can provide a commitment of 14-17.5 hours a week of counselling services, including one evening per week.

We are looking for highly organised and self-motivated women who are passionate about ending violence against women, girls and children. You will have a ‘can-do’ approach and demonstrable commitment to nia’s feminist approach to supporting women and their children to be safer and well.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our small but growing community organisation, comprising nine paid staff and a network of 50 volunteers. Faith in Action Merton Homelessness Project (FIA) has been serving the Merton community for over 20 years. We offer a twice-weekly Drop-In for the homeless and vulnerably housed in the London Borough of Merton. On Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the year, we offer advice and support on a range of homelessness issues.

We provide a safe space where those in our community who are struggling to get by are welcomed, provided with breakfast, hot drinks, a two-course cooked lunch, the chance to take a shower and do their laundry, charge their phone, and access laptops to connect with family or look for work.

In 2022, FIA merged with the Merton Winter Night Shelter (WNS), which provides 14 emergency bed spaces to homeless adults for 16 weeks of the year. FIA's Trustees have overall responsibility for the WNS, with its day-to-day operation overseen by a dedicated WNS team.

About the role

As the Specialist Social Worker, you will lead the “Serving Women, Never Battle Alone” initiative. This pioneering project provides personalised, confidential advice, practical and emotional support, and advocacy for serving women in the military who are experiencing bullying, harassment, or sexual abuse. The service is available across the UK and open to women in both the Regular and Reservist Armed Forces.

The project is a brand-new service and will be a UK wide first for the Armed Forces. You will have the ability to shape a service that offers a specific service to females in the military, using data and ongoing casework to enhance support structures and ensure that women are truly ‘Safe to Serve’.

The role will involve travel to deliver in-person support to individuals accessing the service, which may include emotional and physical assistance in engaging with relevant authorities, in line with their wishes.

As the Specialist Social Worker, you will be responsible for delivering support and guidance through a Single Point of Contact (SPOC), responding to serving women who reach out to the service, and raising awareness and understanding of the initiative both within SSAFA and among external stakeholders.

About the team

The role sits within the Social Care Directorate, under the broader Safeguarding Team, and reports directly to the Principal Safeguarding Officer (PSO). While you will be the sole practitioner delivering the project, you will have ongoing support from the PSO. Additionally, the Specialist Social Worker will sit on SSAFA’s Safeguarding Board who meet quarterly.

The role involves collaboration with a range of stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence (MOD), individual service branches, wider SSAFA teams, and other charitable organisations.

About you

We are seeking a qualified and experienced social worker to take on this important role within SSAFA. Ideally, you will have a background in supporting individuals affected by trauma, experience within military environments or safeguarding teams, and a solid understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and best practice in these areas.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills are essential, along with a positive, adaptable, and creative approach to problem-solving.

• At the start of each shift, reviewing communication and log books, and liaising with staff at handover to ensure learners' needs are well documented and addressed.
   
• Establish supportive relationships with learners and encourage the development of stable relationships.
   
• Promote the emotional health and self-esteem of learners and support them through changes in their living situation and personal circumstances.
   
• Accompanying learners into the community to take part in social and recreational activities such as bowling, cinema trips, and dining out, helping them build confidence and enjoy meaningful experiences beyond the college setting.

Learning Support Assistant x2 (Term time only)

We are seeking two compassionate and patient Learning Support Assistant to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will work closely with students who require additional support to reach their full potential. Your primary responsibility will be to create a positive and inclusive learning environment while providing individualised assistance to students with varying needs.

About You

We are looking for a Senior Care Assistant (Care Supervisor) with experience in care homes, adult health, social care, or community settings.
