· Commission or carry out research as necessary to understand unmet need and inform plans to maximise impact.

Overall purpose

The Senior Communications Manager is responsible for developing, leading and implementing key aspects of our communications and engagement strategy. Your focus will be to maintain our high reputation and build engagement with key audiences – principally target public audiences, corporate partners, funders and supporters, volunteers, clients, and staff. 

Bridging the gap between senior leadership and delivery, you will be a confident and strategic thinker, but remain excited by the challenge of getting stuck in. Strong copywriting is essential for this role. You will be able to write, edit, and tailor content for different audiences, and publish it across various channels, including the website, social media, emails, and marketing materials. 

You will enjoy variety. Your day could involve operational planning, developing a new campaign, briefing freelancers and agencies, finding compelling stories, creating our Impact Report, speaking with journalists, working on internal communications, or drafting social media posts.

The successful candidate will have strong emotional intelligence, relationship building and negotiation skills. They will be collaborative and creative, drive projects forward, work effectively alongside the Senior Digital Marketing Manager, and bring people together across the organisation. They will provide supportive, effective management to the Communications and Campaigns Officer, and be an internal advocate for the impact our Communications and Engagement can have.

The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) is a Society of over 1,700 members from 100 countries, who work in, or are interested in tropical medicine and global health.

RSTMH organises and participates in events as a crucial way of showcasing, discussing, and debating key areas of tropical medicine and global health research and practice. Our range of events are wide. We deliver conferences and webinars, social events, research meetings for early career professionals, and high-profile debates and discussions. The Meetings and Events Manager would lead on the delivery of the RSTMH meeting and events strategy. We’re looking for a self-motivated and driven public health, inclusion and awareness manager. This is an exciting time to join Breast Cancer Now and the public health, inclusion and awareness team as we continue to grow as a charity and our work across the UK. Your role will continue to help drive forward our team’s work, which is to empower patients and the public to play a full role in managing their own risk of getting breast cancer, diagnosing breast cancer earlier and improving their quality of life after a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development and delivery of a 3-year train the trainer pilot programme in the chosen pilot locations in England or Scotland.

The pilot will train and equip local health care professionals, health promotion workers and local community workers with the knowledge and resources to promote breast awareness, breast screening and risk reduction messages in their own communities.

Senior Communications Manager

We are seeking an entrepreneurially minded Communications Manager to shape new programmes and the strategic communications function to help shape and support part of the External Affairs and Communications Directorate.

The Role

This role is new to the organisation and so the right candidate will be able to shape the role and make their mark in a growing organisation. You will work closely with the Programmes and Partnerships department, helping to bring to life the work the team are doing to improve patient outcomes, support workforce wellbeing and help communities to live well.

Alongside this, the role will support the Assistant Director of External Affairs and Communications with the coordination and planning of large-scale communications activities, taking birds eye view of across the organisation and working with key internal stakeholders to design integrated ways of working that help to tell one story.

About You

We need a self-starter, strategic planner, and creative thinker to help build integration into communications planning and deliver smart communications activity that demonstrates the impact we have in the NHS.

The ideal candidate will have worked at a senior communications professional level, had experience of working across multiple programmes or projects, understand the fundaments of strategic communications planning and have excellent stakeholder relationship skills.

You will have experience of:

• Leading and implementing stakeholder management and influencing strategies with demonstrable results, ideally in a membership organisation.
• Working in a politically sensitive environment at a senior level and dealing with senior stakeholders in a variety of organisations, including central Government.
• Delivering internal and external communications strategies to achieve specific objectives
• Experience or an understanding of the voluntary sector.
• Developing and delivering integrated influencing campaigns, working with multiple partners and stakeholders.

This role is essential in enhancing the visibility and impact of our charity's vital work. You will do this through effective communication outputs, with a focus on digital, and well-organised virtual, regional and national events.

The Communications and Events Manager will lead on overall execution of TSA communications and events, working closely with the Joint Chief Executive. The role is one of the most front-facing and proactive offered at the TSA.

Key responsibilities

Communications

• Lead in the development of communication outputs across all aspects of the TSA’s work in support and information, research, fundraising and campaigning. This will include a major focus on filmed media and editing of short clips as well as building a library of case studies
• Lead in the development of an effective internal and external communications strategy. The strategy should provide direction on how communications pieces are created internally, as well as how communications are presented to different audiences
• Lead in ongoing content development for the TSA’s daily activities. This includes managing content creation for the website, social media platforms and monthly e-newsletter
• Have a major role in development of Scan, our twice-yearly physical magazine
• Develop excellent relationships with key internal stakeholders at all levels by providing direction and support for all TSA teams in their communications needs, such as reviewing and editing fundraising and research materials

Events
