The British Academy - the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences - is seeking two full-time Events Producers to join our Communications Department, providing key support in the planning and delivery of the year-round public, academic and public engagement events programmes.
The role
The Events Producer provides a key role in supporting the planning and delivery of the British Academy’s year-round events programmes, which take place in London, across the UK and online. This includes public events (themed seasons, lates, performances, book prize events and festival sponsorships), academic events (lectures, conferences, academic prizes & medals), and public engagement (Summer Showcase, SHAPE Involve and Engage).
The role holder will work closely with other members of the Events Team and the wider Communications Department. You will work directly with the Head of Events and three Events Managers to deliver events at our historic home in London, at partner venues across the UK, and online.
You will be someone who thrives on delivering engaging live events aimed at a variety of audiences – from first-time visitors to our Summer Showcase, to a student attending a Late; an early career researcher watching a lecture, to a leading academic attending a keynote speech at a conference.
You will be someone who is passionate about creating dynamic events which share the latest research and is keen to develop new ways to connect with our target audiences.
You will be joining the Academy at an exciting time in our history as we have recently opened three new event spaces in our building, offering a new programme of activity to our audiences.
We are recruiting two full-time roles. One is a permanent contract, the other is a 12-month fixed-term contract. One role will work primarily on academic events programmes, whilst the other will work primarily on public engagement programmes.
About the Academy
The British Academy is the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences, established by Royal Charter in 1902. We mobilise these disciplines to understand the world and shape a brighter future. Today’s complex challenges can only be resolved by deepening our insight into people, culture, and societies. With a Fellowship of around 1,700 leading national and international academics, the Academy invests in researchers and projects across the UK and overseas; engages the public with fresh thinking and debates; and brings together scholars, government, business, and civil society to influence policy.
The Academy currently has five directorates: Communications & Marketing; Development; Policy; Research; and Resources, plus a small Governance & Fellowship Team. We have increased staffing in the last 12 months and expect to continue to grow this year.
Working at the Academy
Our senior management team have worked with staff to foster a culture of collaboration, respect, and empathy, in which all contributions are recognised as we work towards our common goals. Our people strategy and working practices focus on building strengths and sharing insights, with learning & development, wellbeing, and equality, diversity & inclusion at the centre of how we operate as an organisation. Investing in our staff and encouraging a healthy work/life balance is central to our success, as we move forward and continue to grow. Find out more about the British Academy, including our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement.
Terms and conditions
The British Academy is based at 10-11, Carlton House Terrace, St James Park, London, SW1 – a Grade I listed building. We offer a competitive benefits package including a 35-hour working week, 34 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays; a subsidised canteen and an excellent occupational pension.

Our commitment to inclusive recruitment
For education organisations to flourish, improve performance and genuinely represent the communities they serve – it’s essential that we seize the opportunity to develop a diverse workforce.
We know that to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people, the very best talent from our society needs to be identified, supported and retained.
Our organisations perform better when they reflect the rich breadth and depth of our society – and we should be proud to bring together a dynamic combination of knowledge, skills and lived experience.
In practice, an inclusive approach to recruitment takes care and attention. We are all stakeholders in the education system – so together we need to continue to challenge recruitment norms, processes, and behaviours.
We are committed to recruitment campaigns that are developed with inclusivity at their core, whilst keeping a resolute focus on the best choice of candidate for the post.
Pillars of an inclusive approach
1. Ensuring roles are designed and described clearly and accurately, removing hidden barriers that might inadvertently dissuade a great candidate from applying.
2. Communicating a clear commitment to inclusivity throughout all recruitment marketing materials – showing as well as telling candidates that we are an open, inclusive employer.
3. Taking positive action by seeking and welcoming applications from under-represented groups – using recruitment interactions and headhunting to reach a wider pool.
4. Assessing impact and improvement through effective diversity and equal opportunities monitoring and ongoing dialogue with staff.
Camden Learning is a schools-led partnership. We aim to drive improvement for all, guided by values of excellence and social equity.

About Quest for Learning
Quest for Learning is an education charity on a mission to close the gap for primary school children in Oxfordshire who are falling behind - often due to complex and compounding disadvantage. Many of the children we support are growing up in poverty, with limited access to books, low parental literacy, and challenging home environments. Some face health inequalities, live in areas affected by crime, or have recently arrived in the UK as refugees or asylum seekers.
We work closely with schools to provide targeted, high-impact literacy and numeracy programmes that give these children the chance to catch up, thrive, and believe in their potential. On average, our small-group tutoring helps pupils make 13 months of progress in just 10 hours - building not only essential skills, but also confidence, motivation, and a renewed sense of possibility.
The impact extends well beyond the classroom. By supporting children early, we help prevent the need for more complex and costly interventions later in life, from mental health support to exclusion and social care. Our work contributes to stronger, fairer communities by giving every child the foundation they need to participate fully in society. In doing so, we are advancing social sustainability and helping to meet global goals such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals for Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, and Good Health and Wellbeing.
Role Purpose
This is a hands-on and outward-facing role for a confident, capable fundraiser ready to lead Quest for Learning’s income generation efforts. As our sole dedicated fundraiser, you’ll take ownership of securing income across a broad mix of streams - including trusts and foundations, community fundraising, individual giving, and corporate partnerships.
You’ll be out and about representing the charity, building relationships with local businesses, community groups, and supporters, and bringing our mission to life with energy and clarity. You'll need to be a proactive self-starter who enjoys meeting people, thrives in a varied role, and is motivated by delivering results that improve life chances for disadvantaged children.
This is a busy and varied role which often involves working on multiple fundraising activities at once. A typical day could include working on an application to a new funder, designing a supporter newsletter, gathering information for an end of grant report, and researching new prospects.
This role would suit someone with experience of securing funding, managing funder relationships, and developing new opportunities - all with a focus on practical delivery.
