Letchworth Foodbank is seeking an inspiring and strategic Chair of the Board to lead the next chapter of our growth.

We have a clear mission: the prevention or relief of poverty in Letchworth, Hitchin and Baldock in particular, but not exclusively, by providing emergency food supplies and financial support to individuals in need and/or charities or other organisations working to relieve poverty.

Receiving donations and grants of over £200,000 per annum, the Foodbank distributes over 40 tonnes of food and £50,000 of food vouchers every year to those that need it most.

Our strategy is not to stand still, but to increase our reach and impact, and we require a Chair that shares our ambitions and will help drive a clear strategy forwards with the Trustees, working closely with the Foodbank Director.

What are we looking for?

• A Chair with knowledge of and commitment to tackling and relieving poverty.

• Experience in leadership, governance, and board-level roles (charity or voluntary sector preferred).

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and unite people.

• An understanding of the challenges faced by small charities and grassroots organisations.

• A strategic thinker with sound judgment and an inclusive leadership style.

• An understanding of safeguarding, equality, and community engagement principles.

• Experience of financial management and a broad understanding of charity finance issues.

We are looking for new Treasurer and Trustee to join our Board in October when our current Treasurer steps down. In particular, we are seeking a qualified management accountant who can provide insights and leadership to support the financial management and governance of the Trust. The Treasurer works in close co-operation with, and provides support and advice to, the Finance Director and the Chief Executive. Our Trustees have a key leadership role at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, setting the direction of the organisation and help us to achieve our goals of creating wildlife-rich places and wildlife-rich lives.

Becoming a Trustee means taking on a voluntary role to support and guide a charitable organisation to achieve agreed vision and goals. Trustees are responsible for the overall governance of a charity. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Trustees set our strategic direction and provide guidance, support and challenge to the Senior Leadership Team. They are passionate ambassadors for the charity’s work, influencing key partners and helping to secure funding.

About the Project – “Solta o Jogo”
“Solta o Jogo” is a vibrant cultural competition and festival that celebrates Brazilian heritage through Capoeira, music, dance, acrobatics, and a Brazilian arts fair. Hosted at Kingston University Townhouse, this event engages the local community through free performances, classes, and exhibitions.

As part of this project, we are looking for a Data Analyst who can help us measure community impact, inform decision-making, and contribute to continuous improvement across programme delivery. This is a hybrid volunteer role, ideal for someone based near Kingston (travel expenses will be reimbursed). You’ll gain valuable experience working in the non-profit sector and help shape a high-profile cultural programme that has received praise from local councillors, Kingston University, and the Brazilian Consulate in London.

Position Overview:
The Data Analyst plays a key role in supporting Quilombo UK’s community and cultural initiatives by collecting, managing, analysing, and reporting data related to engagement, outreach, and programme impact. This role is crucial to enabling data-driven decision-making across teams and enhancing the visibility of outcomes to stakeholders and funders.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Collection & Management:

• Gather, clean, and manage datasets from sources including attendance logs, feedback surveys, fundraising data, and project reports.

• Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and organisation across internal records.

Analysis & Insight Generation:

• Identify trends and patterns to evaluate the effectiveness of “Solta o Jogo” programming.

• Support strategy development through analysis of community engagement, volunteer participation, and performance indicators.

Reporting & Visualisation:

• Build user-friendly dashboards and visuals to support internal teams and partner reporting needs.

• Present clear summaries and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

• Work with Programme, PR, and Marketing teams to align data insights with communication strategies and outreach efforts.

• Provide data-driven inputs for programme evaluation and future planning.

Continuous Improvement:

• Support the design of outcome tracking tools, surveys, and templates.

• Suggest enhancements to reporting systems and support data-driven fundraising efforts.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree or working toward a qualification in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Public Health, Social Research, or related field.

Experience:

• Experience working with spreadsheets and large datasets.

• Demonstrated ability to collect, clean, and interpret data using Excel or Google Sheets.

• (Desirable) Familiarity with tools like Power BI, SPSS, R, or Python.

Skills:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication.

• Ability to translate complex data into accessible reports.

• A proactive, collaborative, and detail-oriented mindset.

What is the time commitment? 

The charity holds four full board meetings per year in Nottingham, with each meeting lasting around 2 hours. Meetings take place quarterly on the third Thursday of October, January, April and July.

In addition, Trustees need to set aside a minimum of 2 hours reading time before each board meeting.

. The AGM follows the board meeting on the third Thursday of October, with the meeting lasting around 1.5 hours. In addition, a minimum of 1 hour reading time is required prior to the AGM.

• There may be specific occasions when a Trustee is required to attend an event to open/close it, such as our annual staff conference

• Get to know the charity’s services and infrastructure within the first 3 years/initial tenure of the post and continue to have contact with relevant departments during subsequent 3-year tenures. Feedback on service/infrastructure visits is a standard Board agenda item.

. The charity board also has a Finance & Audit Committee which has its own Terms of Reference and has meetings separate from the Full Board Meetings. The membership of this committee is determined by the Board

• Trustees serve a three-year term of office and can be re-elected to serve additional three-year terms

What training will you be given?

We offer a full induction programme and ongoing support from the charity, other Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team plus occasional external development.

The Trustee role is open to all those who have legal experience or a legal background and in addition, the Board of Trustees particularly welcomes experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Issues relating to work with, and for, older people or lived experience and potentially any of the following skills.

• Public Relations and Marketing
• Campaigning
• Education and Learning
• Digital Strategy
• HR
• Strategy and planning skills and performance monitoring in commercial and/or not-for-profit organisations
• Developing and monitoring budgets

As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you! 

You can expect us to

• Make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours
• Support you in having a positive and impactful experience at Cats Protection
• Cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• Provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.
