You’ll help turn research into engaging, accessible summaries, so schools can quickly grasp key insights and put them into action.

Our Aims

The Urban Partnership Group (UPG) is a community and regeneration organization situated in West London offering a wide range of activities at its bases at the Masbro Centre, Edward Woods Community Centre, Masbro Brook Green, and Flora Gardens Family Centre,  projects managed include those for older people, youth, children centre services, volunteering and community champions.  Through these projects UPG hopes to enhance the health, wealth and well-being of the centre users and residents.

The Role

The Community Centre Manager will play a key role in the leadership and smooth running of The Edward Woods centre, managing change, growth and performance as agreed with the CEO. Working closely with the UPG Management team, employees, partners, contractors, volunteers and other local organisations, the Manager will work to ensure the

Community Centre is a vibrant, well-managed facility that operates within a sustainable framework for the benefit of residents and organisations. They will also promote the profile, role and impact of the Centre.

Duties and Responsibilities

Management of the Community Centre

• Manage the operations of the Community Centre, its staff and the development and delivery of activities and facilities in line with the business and strategic plan.

• Ensure compliance with employment law and that we follow good practice regarding HR.

• Contribute to the planning, development, implementation and delivery of the business and strategic plan and present regular progress updates to the UPG Management team.

• Oversee the maintenance of the building - including building maintenance and improvement

programmes.

• Manage and monitor all aspects of risk assessments, health and safety and security as required by regulation or good practice including, in conjunction, the review and updating of

policies and procedures.

Management of staff and Volunteers

• Continue developing and maintaining relationships with various local partners to ensure activities at the Community Centre fit with others provided in the area.

• Positively represent the Centre and the community at partner and other meetings/events to raise the profile of the Community Centre and to ensure the views and needs of the community are prioritised and included.

• Prepare reports for funders, PRM and annual general meetings.

PR/Marketing and Fundraising

• Oversee the development and implementation of an income generation & marketing strategy.

• Develop strategies to promote the use and profile of the Community Centre, maximising use of social media, publicity opportunities and liaison with the local media.

Financial management

• Liaise with the CEO and Finance officer in setting and managing budgets and maintain an overview of the financial position of the Community Centre.

• Code invoices to ensure that income and expenditure is allocated to correct projects.

• Ensure best practice in all financial matters.

Project Management

• Support and oversee the continued delivery of high-quality services and activities.

• Devise and implement robust impact monitoring and evaluation strategies for all projects.

• Ensure all projects are correctly risk assessed and supported.

Edward Woods Community Centre has a small team of employees, tenants, volunteers and a

wide range of activities. it is expected that the post holder will be flexible in assisting in areas of work which go beyond their main duties. In particular, the holder of this post will be expected to assist with covering frontline reception and administrative duties and attendance at and/or supervision of events outside of normal working hours.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Casework Team provide specialist casework advice and support to bereaved families and individuals following a contentious death in custody and detention settings or through multi agency failings, requiring an inquest. You will be working alongside an experienced Casework Team, led by two Senior Caseworkers. You will have close contact with the Family Engagement Coordinator and with the Policy and Communications team.

The purpose of the role is to provide specialist advice to bereaved families facing an investigation and inquest process into a state related death; advising on the process immediately following a death, secure legal representation for families through the INQUEST Lawyers Group; liaise with external organisations, including lawyers, coroners and public bodies such as the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman and the Independent Office for Police Conduct, work alongside the Communications Team on media engagement; and identify key cases and issues arising as part of INQUEST’s policy and campaigns work.

The successful candidate will have experience of casework and advice provision, preferably in inquest law and related investigations. They will be expected to identify themes and trends arising from cases and contribute to the organisations strategic work. In addition, they will be required to organise stakeholder meetings and represent INQUEST at external meetings.

They will possess outstanding communication and organisation skills, will enjoy working in a very fast paced environment, and will adhere to INQUEST’s values and commitment to social justice, as well as our commitment to tackling racism and discrimination.

Terms

Youth Engagement Officer  

Location: Hybrid. Expected to be in our London office in Victoria at least one day per week. You can be remote every other day or come into the office. Your office days are flexible and can be agreed with your manager, other than for monthly team days where you must be in person. In the last year we have seen a 25% increase in youth engagement across our membership, have supported Ofsted and Department for Education to their youth participation in policy making and our Youth Steering Group hosted our biggest ever Fair Education Youth Summit. This role will play a critical part in the success of taking this work forward. As the Youth Engagement Officer, you will work with our Head of Youth Engagement to ensure our Youth Steering Group can lead their own campaign activities, engage directly with decision makers, and collaborate with other young people to bring about the change they want to see. Ensure the Fair Education Youth Summit is a success and remains truly youth-led  

Our Youth Steering Group design and run the annual Fair Education Youth Summit. The event is led by young people for young people and brings together young changemakers from across our membership and the wider education and youth sectors to develop their youth leadership skills, collaborate on campaigns, and engage directly with decision makers. You will support the young people to design sessions, secure speakers, embed past feedback and plan the event structure. You will also support with the event logistics, guestlist management, participant communications and collecting attendee feedback.

Support our members to improve their youth engagement practice  

Our Youth Engagement Working Group supports FEA members and other sector organsiations to increase and improve their own youth engagement practice. You will support the management of logistics, promote the workshops, and communicate with working group members. Purpose of the job:

To lead on and deliver professional legal advice, guidance, and representation on employment law matters to the Senior Management Team, Staff, NEC and members.

To undertake a management role with direct responsibility for two Legal & Employment Rights Managers (Senior Paralegals).

Main duties and responsibilities

1.Key areas

• Conduct legal research into past cases and documents
• Draft and prepare claims or other legal documents
• Provide legal advice to SMT, NEC, members
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of PCS members
• Keep up to date with new developments in employment legislation
• Provide employment law briefings to PCS staff about changes in employment legislation
• Advise members and Reps on wrongful termination and unfair dismissal claims, including reviewing dismissal procedures and advocating for members' rights
• Assist members and reps in cases of workplace discrimination, harassment, or retaliation based on factors such as age, gender, race, disability, or other protected characteristics
• Contribute to the development of the Unions policy objectives including the PCS planning process
• Provide leadership in delivering the unions Legal and Employment Rights strategy
• Provide support and have direct involvement through the National Management Team (NMT) in the unions bargaining, organising, campaigning, equality, learning and digital agendas
• Manage people and resources in the Legal and Employment Rights Unit
• Provide advice to relevant committees including the preparation and presentation of reports
• Monitor and report on issues and initiatives as requested
• Provide input into budgetary processes including bid preparation, monitoring and control where relevant

2.People Management

• Manage work allocation and workflow, future planning and support for officer team/line manager
• Motivate and manage individuals and the team as a whole to provide a high standard of service
• Check work standards and maintain consistent quality of delegated tasks
• Seek to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the team
• Through induction, the appraisal system and one-to-ones, identify staff training and development needs, train or organise formal/informal training

• Ensure digitalisation, information & communication methods are effectively implemented and used to generate improvements

• Communicate with members by producing circulars and briefings, and by addressing meetings and conferences etc
• As necessary, represent PCS and liaise with outside bodies

4.Casework Management

• Advise in the handling of personal casework
• Liaise with Solicitors, internal and external bodies on the handling of personal casework
• Represent PCS or PCS members at official bodies such as employment tribunals, Civil Service Appeal Board, etc.
• Maintain and improve own knowledge of the developments in employment law and practice

5.Team Working

• Proactively promote team working
• Initiate, organise, lead and participate in team meetings as appropriate
• Maintain high levels of confidentiality of sensitive issues at all times
• Provide assistance to team members

We are recruiting a Digital Fundraising Assistant to assist in the delivery of our growing virtual events programme. 

This is an exciting new role which involves supporting delivery of a wide range of virtual events at Sands, in order to grow our fundraising income.  The role includes increasing Sands’ online presence across a range of channels through excellent stewardship of large audiences who are both warm and new supporters. 

You will ensure delivery of a world class supporter experience using an omnichannel approach, helping our supporters reach and exceed their fundraising targets.

Working with the Digital Fundraising Manager, you will monitor the everchanging virtual challenge environment and consider how best to adapt our activities in order to achieve financial targets and remain innovative and a leader within the sector.

You will have strong communication skills and enjoy building relationships, especially within online communities. Additionally, you will have an understanding of a wide range of social media channels and an interest in creating refreshing, inspiring content.

A highly organised and efficient approach is essential in order to respond to large quantities of enquiries across multiple channels. Excellent written communication skills are therefore essential.

Relevant experience in creating engaging video, image and written content for different social channels is also an essential requirement.

This post is home-based. There may be the need to support Sands events at weekends and/or evenings and working hours can be adjusted accordingly.

About the Role

The Project Officer will join the US Death Penalty Project at Reprieve, working on Reprieve’s innovative Stop Lethal Injection Project operating at Reprieve’s Lethal Injection Information Center. The Stop Lethal Injection Project engages in investigation and analysis, supports and advises private sector partners in the healthcare industry, and undertakes public education focused on preventing the misuse of medicines in lethal injection executions and on exposing the myth of the humane execution.  The US Death Penalty Project Officer role is UK based and will work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in Reprieve US.  You will share our commitment to fighting against racism and advancing racial justice, and understand our responsibility to do our work in a way that does not compound racist structures.

Length and Salary

This is a full-time role, on a one-year fixed term contract, to cover parental leave. The annual salary is £42,193 per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance. 

This role is based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work two days per week from the London office and the rest of the week from home. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK, which will be checked prior to interview.

Your presence is important during core office hours, whether remotely or in the office. You will also be available outside of office hours in the event of an emergency, for example case developments that require urgent action. This is a role that may require travel and work outside of core office hours from time to time.
