Key responsibilities include:

Communication and campaign creation

• Drafting digital communication and engagement plans to deliver results. 
• Crafting exciting, creative, energetic, simple communications which drive action.

Using results to drive change

• Using insight to inform new plans.

Copy creation 

• Using your strong written and verbal skills to curate and manage high-quality, consistent content across all our delivery platforms: social, Live Well Hub, web, email and PR.

Social media

• Leading on building our impact and engagement on social media with our audiences, in line with our objectives, including supporting engagement campaigns and fundraising.

• Monitoring social media, ensuring prompt and accurate responses to enquiries. 
• Using analytics to constantly optimise our social media impact. 

Email

• Developing content for email marketing, including for fundraising and events campaigns.
• Optimising email by A/B testing content to maximise performance through design and content improvements and creating triggered email sequences to build our message. 
• Using audience segmentation and personalisation to support campaigns.
• Using analytics to identify ways to constantly optimise our email impact. 

Website content plus content SEO

• Overseeing content development for the website and checking existing content so our website is kept up-to-date, engaging, and on brand.
• Ensuring web content is optimised for SEO and usability, training staff on best practice.
• Leading team efforts to enhance the website as an engagement tool. 
• Using analytics to identify potential content changes.

Engagement

• Acting as the digital community lead for engagement of our online communities on social media and the Live Well Hub, including guiding team members to follow best practice.  
• Supporting online events and driving positive engagement opportunities.
• Responding proactively and appropriately to online messages and comments.
• Engaging and participating in online community groups and discussions beyond our channels.

Brand communication

• Ensuring all activity aligns with brand priorities.
• Championing on-brand messaging. Acting as a trusted expert on brand tone of voice. 
• Ensuring all media and communications guidelines/policies are followed and kept updated. 
• Sharing best practice with the wider organisation and continuing professional development. 

Creative skills

• Generating and developing creative and innovative ideas with a good eye for brand, design, film and photography.
• Creating engaging collateral through software such as Canva, Photoshop or Indesign.
• Editing small amounts of audio or video (desirable).

Essential skills:

• High energy, with the ability to work at a fast pace, with a proactive, creative and flexible approach.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively and autonomously from home while working collaboratively and building relationships as part of a tight-knit team. 
• A keen eye for detail with a consistently high quality of work output.
• Highly organised, able to manage a content schedule, and plan and deliver digital campaigns. Able to prioritise work across multiple projects to meet deadlines.
• Demonstrable experience in developing, leading and executing high-quality, effective communications and engagement strategies that achieve desired results.

About the role

The Media Manager will be responsible for taking charge of the ITF’s global media strategy. We are looking for an experienced media relations professional who can further enhance and solidify ITF’s reputation as the global voice of transport workers and as an authoritative voice in the transport industry and global trade union movement.

We’re seeking an experienced media relations manager, preferably with international experience and with established media relationships amongst leading international media.

You will be part of team responsible for delivering solidarity and support to local, national and global disputes, building communications that reinforce the critical role transport workers play, developing strategies to support union-led policies on everything from health and safety to sustainability, and raising the volume on the global struggle to advance the rights and equalities of the world’s transport workers.

What the job involves 

This is an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant Brand and Media (Attention) team within our wider Communications directorate. As the Media and Communications Manager, you’ll be the team’s lead on Health Services, Equity and Improvement (including policy and campaigns) and Research communications, delivering impactful media moments which inspire action and drive positive change for men with, or at risk of, prostate cancer.

You’ll raise the profile of the cause and the brand, co-managing the activity of the charity’s media relations function and protecting the organisation’s principles and reputation. The impactful media messaging that you provide to a range of audiences will secure hard-hitting and compelling coverage, you can see our latest news stories on the Research and Treatment sections of our website.   

You’ll also be acting as line manager to the Senior Media and Communications Officer.

What we want from you 

We’re looking for an inspiring and strategic storyteller, you’ll be an expert in leading communications projects to inspire action and drive change and with a track record of generating media coverage to deliver messages to a range of audiences. 

You’ll be an excellent communicator with a strong understanding of different communication channels and have specialist knowledge of media relations. Experience in building trusted relationships with colleagues, external stakeholders, and journalists is essential. With previous line management experience, you’ll have a motivation to help others achieve their full potential and actively supports our commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and allyship. 

With excellent organisational skills with strong analytical skills and an ability to digest complex information, often under pressure of tight media deadlines. You’ll have a flexible approach to handling both planned projects and reactive opportunities. 

This role will be fixed term for 13 months covering sabbatical leave.

This is a new role at Wen, with a focus on building Wen's in-house media relations and story gathering capacity while also getting involved in all areas of communications, particularly social media. To help you settle into the role and support your development you will receive mentoring from a PR consultant. 

Part of your role will be visiting Wen's projects and events to gather content, impact stories and case studies for use in the media and on our social media channels. Key information

Salary - £35,284 FTE per annum, pro rata (Grade 3)

Contract - 4 days/28 hours per week, Permanent. Tuesday is a core working day for the majority of Wen staff. 

Location - Hybrid working -  One day a week at Wen office in Shoreditch and/or at Wen's local hub in Mile End, London, more in-person days required on an ad-hoc basis. Occasional travel may be required.

Key tasks

Strategic Communication: You will work with the Head of Communications and Engagement to deliver Wen’s Communications Strategy.

Content Creation:  You will actively look for new content ideas and opportunities to collaborate with like-minded individuals/organisations. You will write compelling content, including press releases, articles, blogs and impact stories.​

Media Relations: You will build Wen's in-house media relations capacity, to include developing and delivering media plans, cultivating relationships with journalists and securing positive media coverage in national, local and sector media. You will also brief Wen spokespeople for media opportunities and interviews. 

Social Media: You will lead on the development of a social media strategy, plan and calendar, scheduling organic and paid content and campaigns. You will run Wen's social media channels , engaging with other accounts, communicating Wen’s position on relevant issues.

Digital Comms: You will support Wen's digital communications, including creating content for Wen's website and e-newsletter and help maintain and update Wen's CRM system.

Key responsibilities:

● Work with the Head of Communications to develop and deliver content, media opportunities and campaigns that help us raise awareness of our cause and achieve our wider strategic goals.

● Evaluate the success of campaigns, setting and tracking key metrics, feeding learnings back into future work in a cycle of continuous improvement.

● Build networks and contacts within mainstream, education and food-related traditional and social media platforms to secure story and content placement.

● Deal with reactive media queries to tight deadlines, overseeing reparation of briefs and Q&As.

● Oversee content creation for our social media and online platforms, How to Guides and marketing materials, ensuring brand consistency and appropriate audience targeting.

● Ensure any data collection via our website or other platforms is compliant with GDPR and any related or superseding legislation.

● Line manage and mentor two team members, with a commitment to ensuring their career progressions.

Skills & experience:

● You have interest and belief in our mission to improve kids’ health through improving food and food education in schools.

● 3+ years prior experience in a similar role.

● You are organised, methodical, strong on detail, and able to map out deadlines and plan ahead.

● Ideally you’d have some experience of line management, a ‘must’ is a commitment to developing the team.

● You have proven success designing and delivering communications plans and campaigns.

● You have experience successfully pitching stories and/or collaborations to media, journalists and influencers.

● You understand how to create engaging content - both written and visual.

● You see opportunities for coverage and know how to make them happen.

● You’re up to date on media and communications trends and able to stay ahead of the curve.

● You’re capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

● You’re confident enough to deputise for the Head of Communications when required, such as deciding which reactive media queries to pursue, presenting at events and crisis management if required.

The recruitment process

The Role

The PR Manager plays a central role, working closely with the Head of Media to manage the public relations function of the charity. You will be responsible for helping to develop and execute prominent and high impact national and regional media campaigns, to help people better understand the mission and take action to support it.

Your main duties and responsibilities include:

· Generate regular, positive, proactive media coverage

· Proactively sell stories into the media as well as react to incoming enquiries

· Work with the Head of Media to develop impactful press strategies in line with the wider PR strategy

· Take a proactive approach to gathering NHS staff, member and supporter case studies
