Job description

Welfare Caseworker
37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
£38,618 per year
Harcombe House, Chudleigh, Devon (some hybrid can be accommodated)

About Us
Fire Fighters Charity provides timely clinical care and wellbeing support to members of the UK’s fire services and their families, helping them to adapt to physical, emotional and social challenges, to adapt to conditions, injuries and illness, and to transition to life after service.

About the role
We're looking for a Welfare Caseworker to join our charity's Welfare Services team. If you have a background in social care, advocacy, or social welfare, you could be the right person to provide essential welfare advice, information, and support to the Fire & Rescue community.

In this role, you will assess the needs of individuals and families, developing tailored, cost-effective solutions to help them improve their quality of life. The goal is to empower our service users to achieve mental, physical, and social well-being.

This is an excellent opportunity to apply your skills as part of a national team and make a direct impact on the lives of those facing unforeseen challenges like poverty, ill-health, and disability.

This role will be subject to a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service check.

About you
You must have a strong understanding of how to conduct holistic assessments and plan person-centred support. You'll be working alongside a multi-professional team to ensure service users receive comprehensive care.

To be successful in the role, you should possess:

  •  Experience in adult social care, social welfare, advocacy or information and advice settings.
  •  NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or Advice and Guidance (or equivalent)
  •  Working knowledge of the welfare benefits system and statutory provision
  • Understanding of a wide range of psychosocial, physical and mental health issues
  •  Previous experience in case management, particularly with complex case loads

This role may involve some travel which may require the occasional night away from home.

How to Apply
We welcome applications from all sections of the community. When recruiting our new team members, regardless of the role, we are looking for people who share our values to help us to achieve our strategic plan.

You can apply for the role via our online portal, where you will be asked to submit a 2-page CV, and a covering letter. We encourage you to include specific examples that demonstrate you have the skills and experience set out in the Job Description and Person Specification. We are also keen to understand why you are interested in both the role and working for Fire Fighters Charity. Alternatively, please contact us for an application form.

More information about the role can be found on our website or please contact Carrie Pearce, our Welfare Servies Lead to discuss the role.

We reserve the right to close this role early should we receive a sufficient number of applications. Due to the number of applications we receive, we are unable to contact applicants who are not shortlisted for interview. If you do not hear from us within two weeks of the closing date, please assume that your application was not successful this time.
