Benslow Music, a thriving musical hub based on a campus in Hitchin, is seeking a Head of Music & Learning to lead the strategic development and delivery of its diverse programmes. We champion the life‑long benefits music brings through a programme of residential, day and online music courses, a concert series and an instrument loan scheme.

We’re rooted in a heritage that began in 1929 as the Rural Music Schools Association, growing into a lively campus with two recital halls, practice rooms, accommodation for around 50 people and an extensive music library. Today we offer around 150 short courses annually, welcoming adult musicians of all abilities, from late starters to early career professionals, across classical, jazz and folk genres. We host a regular concert series featuring emerging and acclaimed artists.

We are also home to the Benslow Music Instrument Loan Scheme, holding a collection of over 1700 string and woodwind instruments lent to young musicians aged 7–25, ensuring access regardless of background.

About the role
As Head of Music & Learning, you will lead the delivery, strategic development and evaluation of Benslow Music’s core programmes: courses, concerts and the Instrument Loan Scheme. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you’ll shape an ever-evolving and balanced annual programme.

You’ll oversee and strategically develop diverse music education opportunities; cultivate relationships with tutors, artists and partner organisations; develop online activities; ensure excellent participant experiences and adherence to health and safety policies; manage programme budgets and monitor financial performance; monitor the quality of activities, gathering and acting on feedback from participants, tutors and stakeholders; lead and line‑manage a dedicated team to high standards; and contribute to strategic planning and partnerships that strengthen the organisation’s mission to unlock potential and share the lifelong benefits of music.

Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for a self‑starter with programme management experience, an eye for detail, flexibility and good judgement. You’ll be comfortable working autonomously and within a collaborative, supportive environment.

You’ll bring:

• Significant experience in programme and project management, particularly in music or music education contexts, including adult amateur music‑making.
• Breadth and depth of musical knowledge to be credible with a range of stakeholders.
• Proven senior management experience, contributing to strategic development.
• Exceptional people skills and communication abilities (written and verbal), including contract management and negotiation.
• Strong administrative, organisational, IT and budget management skills, including effective use of spreadsheets and familiarity with marketing, CRM and fundraising support.
• A deep understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion; sensitivity to Benslow Music’s mission and ethos.
• Networks in the music/music education sector.

About the role

The Refugee Council supports separated children across England and part of our service is a team of staff based at the port of Dover, working 24/7 to provide a temporary safeguarding service for children arriving there, ensuring that their basic needs are met while they await transfer to the care of a local authority. The unit is reactive to the needs of clients, who may arrive at any time, and staff are expected to cover a variety of shifts.

As a Support Worker, you will assess the basic needs of newly arrived clients and provide an appropriate service, including food, clothing, and access to hygiene facilities. You will work in the best interests of the child and ensure all safeguarding issues are responded to, reported and accurately recorded.

The Director will also work proactively as part of a collective senior leadership team, working closely with the CEO, and sometimes deputising for her, offering continuity of leadership, maintaining momentum, and stepping into key internal and external forums when required. Summary

Working with the Philanthropy team, the Senior Philanthropy Manager – Trusts & Foundations will play a key role in driving new high-value relationships with Trusts & Foundations and raising six and seven figure income for our three charities: Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity, Evelina London Children’s Charity, and Guy’s Cancer Charity. 

As a member of the Philanthropy team, this role will work with colleagues and the Head of Philanthropy to help shape and develop our new fundraising strategy. The Senior Philanthropy Manager – Trusts & Foundations will predominantly look after relationships with Trusts & Foundations, but there may be a small portfolio of Major Donors within the prospect pool, which may grow over time depending on the demands of the Philanthropy team. 

The role will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with trustees, influencers and staff of grant-giving organisations, leading on often complex, large-scale projects and solicitations. As well as sharing team responsibility for achieving ambitious annual income targets, as a senior member of staff, the Senior Philanthropy Manager – Trusts & Foundations will be expected to play a strategic role within the team, proactively leading on new initiatives, decision making and problem solving.

Key Responsibilities

Communication and networking 

• Write clear and compelling fundraising proposals to charitable Trusts and Foundations that have the capacity to make six- and seven-figure grants and donations. 
• Build effective, senior-level relationships with trustees, influencers and staff involved with charitable Trusts and Foundations, as appropriate meeting and liaising directly with funders as the ‘face’ of Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, while also supporting senior staff, academics and clinicians to communicate with funders and work to a brief to achieve objectives. 
• Work with academics and clinicians where required/appropriate, to develop the strongest possible case for support for major projects, for use in presentations, proposals and reports to Trusts and Foundations. 
• Work with the key stakeholders to ensure an effective stewardship programme is in place for Trusts and Foundations donors, including reports, letters or other documents that may at times deal with complex, contentious and sensitive situations. 
• Act as a Trusts and Foundations specialist on behalf of Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation. 

Decision making, planning and problem solving 

• Identify a range of internal fundraising priorities that will engage the interest and charitable objectives of Trusts and Foundations. 
• Work with the Prospect Research team to build an ongoing pipeline of high-calibre, qualified prospects with the capacity to give significant support to priority projects. 
• Balance the coordination of a large number of complex relationships and fundraising projects with the ability to respond appropriately to new opportunities as they arise. 
• Prioritise effectively, balancing urgent vs. important calls on your time, and making decisions about how to use your resources to maximise income for the team. 
• Take a long-term planning approach to the Trusts and Foundations portfolio, mapping out donor development plans for key accounts, and developing a calendar of activity for the year ahead, taking into account key deadlines and interdependencies. 
• Make independent professional decisions and advise colleagues as appropriate. 

Service delivery 

• Generate annual income according to agreed targets – both individual and team. 
• Manage and implement the Trusts and Foundations programme, and work with colleagues and the Head of team to develop and implement strategy and plans. 
• Achieve KPIs as agreed with the Head of team, e.g. for meetings, pledged income. 
• Establish gift agreements with funders that meet both their and the Foundation’s needs. 
• Contribute proactively to team planning and performance monitoring, ensuring the programme is strategically focused to maximise its potential for sustainable growth. 
• Show enterprise and creativity in developing Trusts and Foundations fundraising. 
• Respond appropriately to stakeholders regarding requests for fundraising assistance. 

Analysis and research 

• Contribute to team-wide evaluation of the Trusts and Foundations programme in order to inform annual planning and wider departmental strategy.

Fine Cell Work (FCW) is a charity and creative social enterprise committed to the rehabilitation of people in prison, and post-release. Our innovative Open the Gate (OTG) programme at our Battersea Hub offers work experience, volunteering opportunities, accredited training, mentoring, and signposting support to participants/ Apprentices at any point on their resettlement journey.

About the role:

We are now looking for an experienced and dynamic Engagement and Support Officer (ESO) to join our team. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by people in contact with the criminal justice system and will work proactively to establish meaningful and sustainable cross-referral pathways with external agencies. They will nurture a professional, inclusive, and safe working environment; use their knowledge, insights, and expertise to support tangible outcomes for all Open The Gate participants; and develop the wider programme offer in line with our organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities 

Grants Administration and Co-ordination 

• Support the Programme Development & Partnerships Manager in preparing, reviewing and documenting memoranda of understanding, agreements, agreement modifications according to the needs of Islamic Help. 

• Coordination of the due diligence process with partners. 

• Support the Programme Development & Partnerships Manager to develop, finalise and monitor partner funding.

Someone who needs support goes to live with one of our ace Shared Lives carers and they support them to live their best lives, do all the things they love and be part of their communities. PSS invented Shared Lives back in 1978 and it’s now become a national model of care that lots of other social care providers run. We’re really proud of that. It’s the most brilliant, safe and cost-effective form of care there is (and we’re not just biased – in October 2023, CQC rated 97% of Shared Lives schemes in England as good or outstanding, in comparison to just 78% for the wider social care sector!).

We have Shared Lives schemes in seven different places across England and North Wales – and we’ve got big plans to add to that.

What do we need out deputy head of Shared Lives to do?

Alongside the head of Shared Lives, your job will be to make sure each one of the services in Shared Lives is absolutely top-notch in every way:

• They provide excellent support to the people who use our Shared Lives service
• They support people to reach their goals
• Any issues that crop up are dealt with effectively and in line with our policies and procedures
• They run effectively and like clockwork (but are flexible enough to change things up when it’s needed – even if it’s how things have always been done);
• They’re performing well financially, they’re sustainable and they’re cost-effective
• Carers, PSS Shared Lives teammates and people we support all feel really well informed, motivated and part of a big family
• Our service is getting better all the time

You’ll be supported by a cracking team of service managers who will lead each of the seven individual regional services within Shared Lives. They’ll be looking to you to help them review and develop their services, looking at best practice and national/local strategic priorities together.

On a day-to-day basis, your work would involve things like:

• Getting behind our Shared Lives teams and offering them your support with Care Quality Commission (CQC) compliance, safeguarding reports and complaints
• Leading the way when we win new contacts in new areas of the UK (the plan is to grow our schemes)
• Deputising for our head of Shared Lives: maintaining the risk register for services, identifying, managing, monitoring and escalating risks appropriately when our head of Shared Lives isn’t around
• Helping keep our Shared Lives carers and supported people feeling happy, connected, motivated and part of our big Shared Lives family
• Finding out what our carers and supported people need and how they feel things are going by heading out on the road to meet them
• Supporting our Shared Lives communications and engagement manager with nailing any info and insights they need for their role by sharing what you know, and supporting them with maintaining and introducing communications and engagement initiatives

By 2029, we want to make PSS the most inclusive place it can possibly be, where everyone feels like they belong – and you’ll need to play your part, along with everyone else at PSS, to make it happen.

• understands and knows lots about the relevant quality and regulatory frameworks for health and social care;
• builds fantastic relationships with people;
• is self-aware and takes accountability for results whether they’re good or bad;
• loves driving continuous improvement strategies to make sure we’re getting nothing but excellent outcomes for the people we support; and
• has a degree in health or social care, or an equivalent qualification
