The new Grants Manager will need to be genuinely interested in grantmaking in our priority areas and will have the curiosity to learn and develop new areas of knowledge and expertise. The post holder will work within our team of specialist welfare benefits advisers, as a specialist welfare benefits adviser providing information, advice, and guidance to clients in our Macmillan-funded Welfare Benefits Project, providing a welfare rights advice service to people affected by cancer to maximise their income.

Scope of role

The post holder will undertake casework, assisting clients to access their entitlements to welfare benefits and other sources of financial help. Advice will be delivered through a range of channels, including face-to-face, telephone, email, and other means, provide Welfare Benefits advice and information to people living with cancer and their families.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Case work

• Provide a full welfare benefits casework service for people affected by cancer. This includes disability benefits and other sources of financial support, such as grants and help with health and travel costs.

Welfare Benefit Appeals

• Assist clients to prepare for benefits appeals, research, and the draft was written legal submissions, and provide representation at tribunals as required.

Outreach

• Alongside other team members provide advice sessions through outreach, including at hospitals - currently St Bartholomews, Homerton, Royal London, Newham, and Whipps Cross; and at Toynbee Hall through telephone, email, and any other channel

Targets

• Meet targets as set with the line manager, which will change regularly depending on the needs of the services.

Quality Standard

• Ensure consistent quality assured advice, to AQS standard, monitored by checking casework and observations
• Maintain thorough and detailed case records for continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring, and report preparation

• Recent Welfare Benefits advice work experience, particularly in the areas of health and disability, with at least one year’s specialist welfare benefits casework experience.

We are looking for a permanent and full-time member of staff to help develop and manage RSTMH’s profile within tropical medicine and global health. We need a passionate and creative communicator who can play a key role in meeting our communications objectives. This role is office-based in central London, with the option to work from home on Mondays.

RSTMH is a membership society formed in 1907, with around 1,800 members and Fellows in over 100 countries. We work to improve tropical medicine and global health by enabling and promoting research, sharing knowledge and convening networks through our members and Fellows and beyond. The Communications Manager will have the opportunity to develop and enhance RSTMH’s reputation as a credible and trusted voice in tropical medicine and global health.

This is a wide-ranging and exciting role. You will lead on implementing the organisation’s communications strategy, working with the leadership team to ensure it meets the aims of the wider RSTMH strategy. You’ll maintain and further develop the website and social media platforms, build links with media contacts, and source, commission and develop content. You’ll manage relationships with key suppliers, including website developers, strategic partners, digital media and creative agencies. Research grant management

• Managing the delivery of GOSH Charity’s response-mode funding schemes, including our National Research Project Grant and ‘Lift Off’ pilot study funding call and others.

About the Role:

As the Foundation starts supporting its third cohort of Scholars, we need an organised, communications focused and proactive individual to grow our capacity in two significant areas of our work: our regular in-person events, and our recruitment and assessment process.

You will take the lead on, and quality assure, all Martingale events including our Welcome Dinner for new Scholars at the Royal Society, autumn assessment centres, regular training days for Masters and PhD students, our week-long summer residential retreats for Scholars, as well as events for current and potential funders and other stakeholders. You will also help secure high-profile speakers from relevant industries. While these events will be delivered in collaboration with other members of the team, you will bring your event management expertise to drive forward planning and delivery, and ensure these events are of the highest standards for Scholars and stakeholders.

You will also play a vital role in Martingale’s recruitment and admissions work. You will be line-managed by the Communications Manager and will support in the dissemination of Martingale recruitment materials to relevant universities, student societies, charities and learned societies, to ensure a high number of applications to the Martingale Scholarship programme. You will also work closely with the Programme Manager and Programme Officer to deliver well-run assessment centres and programme events across England and Scotland. You will also support the Communications Manager through producing high-quality content relating to Martingale events, to be distributed through our social media channels.

Event management

• Research and secure high-quality external venues for Martingale events, and work effectively with teams at those venues to ensure events are delivered within budget and to a high standard

o Log purchase invoices into the finance system, check that documentation is complete and correct.
