About the Role

The Project Officer will join the US Death Penalty Project at Reprieve, working on Reprieve’s innovative Stop Lethal Injection Project operating at Reprieve’s Lethal Injection Information Center. The Stop Lethal Injection Project engages in investigation and analysis, supports and advises private sector partners in the healthcare industry, and undertakes public education focused on preventing the misuse of medicines in lethal injection executions and on exposing the myth of the humane execution.  The US Death Penalty Project Officer role is UK based and will work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in Reprieve US.  You will share our commitment to fighting against racism and advancing racial justice, and understand our responsibility to do our work in a way that does not compound racist structures.

Length and Salary

This is a full-time role, on a one-year fixed term contract, to cover parental leave. The annual salary is £42,193 per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance. 

This role is based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work two days per week from the London office and the rest of the week from home. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK, which will be checked prior to interview.

Your presence is important during core office hours, whether remotely or in the office. You will also be available outside of office hours in the event of an emergency, for example case developments that require urgent action. This is a role that may require travel and work outside of core office hours from time to time.

The prospect research officer will develop and maintain a healthy prospect pipeline in order to provide the philanthropy team with an appropriate number and quality of qualified prospects across individuals, corporate, and trusts and foundations. You will lead all aspects of charity financial and resource management for two separate but closely connected charities, the Army Cadet Charitable Trust UK (ACCT UK) and the Combined Cadet Force Association (CCFA), which are supported by a single head office team. We are looking for someone to bring enthusiasm, personal credibility, discretion and sensitivity. You will be ultimately responsible for Finance and Resource Management within the charities.
You will work directly with the trustees of both charities and the wider Senior Leadership Team (SLT) which comprises of the Director of Development, the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) (Director of HR and Programmes), and the Chief Executive. You will have primary responsibility for ensuring that the charities meet their statutory obligations, that financial functions are well ordered and support the work of the charities.
Managing and leading a small and diverse team through high pressure periods including month end, year-end and annual budgeting, you require high emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills. You will work closely with staff at all levels, often having to mentor the charities’ managers to help them plan and manage their own budgets.
Your financial responsibilities are substantial as you will have overall control and responsibility for all financial matters. You will be thinking both strategically and seeing the big picture, whilst also analysing figures in detail to ensure that the financial management of both charities are sound. About Us

Safer Waves was set up in 2019 to provide support to merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual assault, sexual harassment or gender discrimination on board.

Safer Waves provides an anonymous email support service, run by volunteers who are trained in responding to disclosures of sexual violence, and who understand the specific challenges experienced when these events happen onboard a vessel.

We work with shipping companies, industry leaders, law enforcement and maritime training providers to raise awareness of sexual violence within the maritime industry, and to improve the support that is available to seafarers who experience it.

For the first 5 years, Safer Waves has been a volunteer-led organisation. We are now in the exciting position of being able to recruit a CEO, and we are looking for an individual who has the passion to see this new organisation thrive in the maritime welfare sector.

Are you a brilliant and proactive communicator, with the skills to be on the phone stewarding a community fundraiser one day and plotting an email journey the next? Can you put people at the heart of your work, while supporting them to reach and exceed the fundraising goals they have set for themselves? Do you know, or are excited to learn, how to make a fundraising product brilliant? We are looking for a Community Fundraising Officer to join our Public Fundraising team to deliver our Facebook Challenges, build relationships with our wonderful fundraisers and help them raise as much money as possible for people with arthritis.

About the role

You will play a key part in developing and delivering our community fundraising strategy, making sure that anyone and everyone who wants to fundraise for people with arthritis has a great experience doing it. You will build strong relationships with supporters, be that as part of a golf club charity of the year partnership, workplace fundraising or supporting someone with a personal connection to arthritis to raise money in their local area. Developing, delivering and ultimately growing our Facebook challenges offer will be a huge focus – we have some great learnings and are now looking to take them to the next level. There will be plenty of opportunity to test and learn as part of this, and you will get the chance to learn and develop in the role too.

You will work collaboratively with teams across the organisation, from marketing to product development to events, to make sure our products meet the needs of our supporters and that their journey through the organisation is seamless. You will join an ambitious, creative and passionate fundraising team who put people with arthritis and our supporters at the heart of our work.

About you

If your knowledge, skills and experience include the following then we’d love to hear from you:

• Proven successful track record of planning and delivering community fundraising products (or similar) to achieve a good return on investment.
• Experience of delivering excellent supporter or customer stewardship through multi-channels and building relationships with a wide variety of supporters on the phone, in writing and face to face driving engagement, increasing income, and increasing supporter retention.  
• Experience to successfully and independently manage projects, delivering to pre-set deadlines, managing high workloads and ability to understand how and when to prioritise work. 
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.  
• Understanding of the Fundraising Code of Practice and ensuring all fundraisers are always following correct guidance.  
• Skilled at building excellent relationships with a wide range of people. 
  Understanding and prior experience of using customer relationship management (CRM) databases.

*As a hybrid worker the expectation is that you will spend around 40% of your working time in our office spaces or working in community settings. As part of a small finance and operations team and reporting to the Head of People, Finance and Operations you will be the main point of contact within the organisation for all day-to-day finance questions and queries from the team, funders and other stakeholders. You will be an effective communicator building close relationships with colleagues, suppliers and funders. They are looking for someone who is focused but flexible, a fast learner who can manage their own workload and priorities. Ideally, they would like you to have experience within a charity finance function.

Main responsibilities are: 

• Maintain and process all financial information to produce timely accurate management reports that inform and enable the organisation to meet stakeholder needs.

• Play a key role in supporting the organisation wide budgets based on business plans. 

• Ensure compliance with and submission of VAT, Gift Aid and tax returns.

• Support the annual audit process taking oversight and responsibility for liaising with external auditors to ensure the accurate information is provided on time to meet required timescales. 

• Take responsibility for maintaining and updating financial procedures and controls and educating and informing the wider organisation through workshops and inductions. 

• Support the continuous improvement of the finance function together with the Head of People, Finance and Operations to ensure our financial governance is robust and meets the needs of the organisation. 

What is are client looking for from you: 

• Experience of financial systems and process especially SAGE 50 and charity accounting.

• IT literate with knowledge of all Microsoft packages, especially advanced knowledge of excel. 

• Attention to detail and accuracy. 

• Experience of working in a close-knit team and of making best use of skills, talent and resources. 

• Optimistic, energetic and with the ability to use numbers and process to serve our purpose. 

• Embracing our culture which is about being highly collaborative, cause-led, and open to constructive challenge.
