Irise International is at a pivotal and exciting moment in our journey to achieve menstrual justice.
We are a small but globally respected charity based in Sheffield, working across the UK and East Africa to end menstrual injustice by shifting power to young activists and grassroots leaders. Our work is bold, inclusive, and grounded in lived experience. From launching youth-led policy tools in UK schools to co-hosting pan-African feminist gatherings, we amplify the voices of people who menstruate in spaces they’ve historically been excluded from.
We’ve just launched our 2025–2030 strategy and are entering a crucial phase of development. We’re building new income streams, deepening youth leadership, and evolving into a post-founder organisation under new leadership. We’re also piloting exciting collaborations—with councils, universities, and feminist businesses—while supporting our small team with the structure they need to thrive.
Our current Chair will step down in 2025, and we’re seeking someone to work alongside them and our CEO over the next 6–12 months to support a smooth and values-led transition.
This is a unique opportunity to step into a hands-on, relational governance role where your voice will help shape the next chapter of an ambitious and radically hopeful organisation.
We’re looking for someone who can:
-
Lead with empathy, integrity, and a commitment to equity
-
Champion inclusive, youth-led governance that centres marginalised voices
-
Act as a sounding board and strategic partner to the CEO
-
Facilitate a collaborative and engaged board culture
-
Support fundraising, advocacy, and strategic partnerships where appropriate
We particularly welcome interest from individuals with lived or professional experience in menstrual health, youth-led activism, gender equity, or anti-oppressive practice. We value non-traditional leadership journeys and want this role to be accessible and sustainable for the right person.
As Chair, your responsibilities will include:
-
Supporting the CEO between board meetings and leading their annual appraisal
-
Chairing quarterly, inclusive board meetings
-
Supporting board recruitment and mentoring
-
Supporting strategic reflection on partnerships, funding, and risk
-
Upholding Irise’s values and accountability to our menstrual justice framework

Shape the future of character education
Are you a Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, or senior school leader passionate about developing young people’s character? Do you want to use your expertise to shape an innovative education charity while also benefiting your own school? If so, we invite you to join Being The Cure as our Education Trustee and play a key role in refining and expanding our impact in schools.
About us
At Being The Cure, we believe education should go beyond academics—it should build Kindness, Honesty, and Humility, empowering young people to become tomorrow’s heroes. Our Saturday Schools and in-school programmes are grounded in research and gaining attention, including interest from UCL. Now, we need an experienced school leader to help us ensure our programmes truly meet schools' needs.
Why this role could be right for you
Flexible & realistic commitment – We understand school leaders are busy! Meetings are designed to fit around your schedule, with remote options available and minimal paperwork.
Directly benefit your own school – Gain expert insights into character education to enhance your curriculum and explore opportunities for your school to pilot our programmes or receive support.
Have strategic influence – This is more than a governance role. You will directly shape our education programmes, ensuring they are relevant, impactful, and aligned with the realities of school life.
Join a diverse & supportive board – Work alongside charity sector leaders, school business managers, and corporate consultants, all driven by a shared commitment to education and social impact.
Your role as our Education Trustee
As a trustee, you will act as a critical friend to our CEO and education team, helping us refine our curriculum and engagement with schools. Specifically, you will:
✅ Challenge and support our CEO to ensure our curriculum is evidence-informed and aligned with school needs.
✅ Help shape our engagement strategy, making it easier for schools to access and benefit from our programmes.
✅ Advise on best practices in education and share insights from your leadership experience.
✅ Support the scaling of our impact, ensuring our growth is sustainable and beneficial for schools.
Time commitment & flexibility
We respect the demanding schedules of school leaders, so we structure our commitments with maximum flexibility:
Induction – Approx. 6 hours to familiarise yourself with our programme and approach.
Ongoing - 6 hours on a quarterly basis including:
Quarterly Education & Safeguarding Committee – 1-hour remote meeting, with up to 1 hour of prep.
Quarterly Full Board Meeting – 2-hour in-person meeting (ideally, but remote options available), with up to 2 hours of prep. We encourage in-person attendance as we socialise as a board afterward, but we fully understand when this isn’t possible.
Additional support – As available, based on your interest and capacity.
What we’re looking for:
✔ Experience in school leadership, with a strong understanding of how schools operate.
✔ Teaching experience, ideally recent, to ensure familiarity with classroom realities.
✔ Commitment to our mission of empowering young people through character education.
➕ We'd love it if you also had knowledge of or experience with schools in Newham and it's neighbouring boroughs, Bedford, or Luton.
Next steps
We know committing to a trustee role is a big decision and we’re happy to have an informal chat about the role, answer any questions. After we've had a chat we'll also be happy to invite you to visit one of our schools to see our impact firsthand.

We are looking for two new trustees to join our board. We are looking for a treasurer and another trustee with experience of fundraising in the charity sector.
In addition to the time required to fulfil the responsibilities of any trustee, the role of treasurer would require around 1 additional hour a month.
We are seeking to deepen the diversity of our board and will take that ambition into account when appointing trustees. We would especially like to hear from people with lived experience of the impact of corporate wrongdoing - either overseas or in the UK. In addition, trustee members with experience or skills in running a small charity are always welcomed.

The Charities HR Network – Trustee
Following a period of significant growth, The Charities HR Network (CHRN) is looking for three new Trustees to join its board in 2025.
As the UK’s only network dedicated to supporting HR professionals in the charity sector, CHRN plays a vital role in connecting professionals, championing best practice, and providing tools and resources that really make a difference.
This is a voluntary role with real influence. Trustees help guide CHRN’s strategic direction, support the CEO and team, and ensure that its growing membership continues to be served in meaningful and forward-thinking ways.
Active for over 20 years, the CHRN now supports over 150 charities and is aiming to double this reach within the next three years. As part of this next chapter, CHRN is particularly keen to appoint trustees with experience in talent acquisition, learning and development, or organisational development. Two of these appointments will also help lead specialist groups in these areas.
CHRN welcomes applications from individuals with senior experience in HR or the charity sector. Previous board experience isn’t required, but the ability to think strategically, a collaborative approach, and a commitment to inclusion and equity is important.
Key details:
- Remote/virtual meetings (likely one per year face to face) – trustees can be based anywhere in the UK
- Time commitment: around 4–6 board and committee meetings per year
- Voluntary position with expenses covered
- A supportive and inclusive team culture, with opportunities to influence sector-wide change
- Personal and professional development through board-level experience, networking, and leadership of special interest groups
- Initial tenure of 3 years, with an option to extend for an additional 2 years
Trustees at CHRN are hands-on, insightful, and central to the success of the organisation. They work closely with the CEO and team to support service delivery, develop partnerships (including with the CIPD), and ensure that CHRN continues to meet the evolving needs of its members.
To apply, candidates should send a CV and short supporting statement to Peter Reeve, CEO. Informal conversations are welcome in advance and Peter can be contacted via email or LinkedIn.
Deadline for applications: 5pm, 15 September 2025
