The Operations Manager is a new leadership position that will play a pivotal role in the delivery of FFLAG’s operations which span online, offline, and local group support for parents and carers of LGBT+ loved ones. We also want you to bring experience of fundraising to help ensure we stay financially secure for the long term.
About FFLAG
FFLAG is a national voluntary organisation and registered charity and is the UK’s longest established parent support charity in the LGBT+ sector. Our history began in the grassroots parent helplines of the 1960s, grew through the 1980’s and 90’s as we supported anxious parents and fought against the discrimination of Section 28, becoming a formally registered charity in 2000.
Our work sounds simple, but it is life changing. We help parents and families understand, accept and support their LGBT+ family members with love and pride.
We offer a range of support options spanning 121 online and helpline support services, to a UK-wide monthly group Zoom meeting and face to face local groups. We also have an extensive collection of online resources and guides. We attend as many Pride events as we can and our work supports thousands of families every year. This support is provided by an active base of FFLAG volunteers who are parents of LGBT+ children themselves, supported by other volunteers and allies.
In addition to our support work, FFLAG advocates for the full human and civil rights of LGBT+ individuals. FFLAG speaks out and acts to defend and enhance those human and civil rights.
What this job is all about
Simply put, as Operations Manager you will ensure the charity's activities are effective, sustainable, and aligned with our mission to support families with LGBT+ members
Reporting directly to the Chair, working closely with the Board of Trustees and supported by a part-time Volunteer Engagement & Events Coordinator you will:
- Lead and supervise the daily operational functions, ensuring smooth and compliant delivery of services.
- Lead fundraising activities, including grant applications, donor stewardship, and partnership development.
- Manage and support staff and volunteers, nurturing a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture.
- Support the Trustees to ensure compliance with all relevant UK charity legislation and regulatory requirements (e.g., Charity Commission, safeguarding, risk management, data protection).
- Collaborate with the Chair and Board of Trustees to develop and implement strategic plans, with clear KPIs and measurable outcomes.
What else might you be involved in?
Because this is a new role we expect to learn together about what additional activities you can support us with beyond the key priorities mentioned above. This could include helping us to:
- Monitor and report on operational performance, identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.
- Oversee financial management including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, ensuring resources are used efficiently and transparently.
- Oversee communications and stakeholder engagement, including public relations, digital presence including website and social media, and community outreach.
- Act as an ambassador for FFLAG at events, forums, and in collaborative partnerships.
What are the skills and attributes you will need to be successful?
As the most senior employed position in the charity, we need an experienced operational leader that can grow with us. You will be self-motivated and enjoy working independently without the need for close supervision.
In terms of specific areas of skill or experience we are looking for people who can demonstrate previous experience of:
- Operational Leadership: Demonstrable experience in a senior operations role, ideally within the charity or voluntary sector.
- Fundraising: Experience supporting or leading fundraising campaigns and developing income streams.
- Governance: Knowledge of UK charity governance and regulatory compliance.
- People Management: Confident in leading, motivating, and developing a small team and volunteers.
- Commitment to Inclusion: Passionate about equality, diversity, and supporting the LGBT+ community and their families.
As an experienced leader we would also expect you to have:
- Financial Acumen: Proven ability to manage charity finances, budgets, and reporting processes.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to represent the organisation externally.
- Strategic Thinking: Able to translate vision into actionable plans and execute effectively.
- Problem Solving: Resourceful, adaptable, and solution-oriented approach to challenges.

Why this role matters
Alexandra Rose run practical place-based food system transformation projects based around a voucher for fresh fruit & veg. We currently have 9 projects across the UK, and we’re aiming to scale in the coming years. Each project operates the same model, but each project adapts to work with different communities, different languages, different community support infrastructure, different retail options, and more.
At the core, we work with local trusted community organisations who distribute our vouchers to local families on low incomes with young children, and in some areas to local adults on low incomes managing food related health conditions (diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, etc). Voucher distribution is linked to a range of wider wrap around services to ensure that our projects support people in getting out of poverty in real and long-lasting ways. Our vouchers area accepted exclusively by local, independent healthy food businesses, ensuring that we are also supporting a fairer, healthier local food economy.
Our model directly tackles the barriers of affordability and accessibility to the most nutrient dense and most expensive element of a healthy diet. We change the health outcomes of young children and adults living with food related health conditions. We actively change the food environment that is available to a range of people who have been disadvantaged for decades.
As we grow nationally and expand the reach of our projects across multiple regions, we need strong operational leadership to ensure we can deliver consistently, efficiently and with confidence. You will help shape the systems and structures that support our operations, building on the strong work of our existing project teams.
This role is central to developing an operational approach that is both standardised and adaptable, supporting diverse communities while ensuring high-quality delivery, compliance, data collection and organisational resilience. Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Systems Development
- Build on the strong work of our project teams to develop consistent, scalable systems and processes that support effective delivery across different communities.
- Lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of robust operational systems: data management, compliance, monitoring, reporting, risk management and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day activities within Open Kitchen Manchester, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, nutritious meals.

At WeSwim, we support disabled adults to swim in welcoming, inclusive volunteer run clubs across London. For many of our swimmers, the water offers a new freedom, easing pain, building confidence, and opening up new ways to move and connect.
We’re now looking for a Cubs and Community coordinator to help keep our swim sessions running smoothly and our community growing well.
This role is about people, organisation and care. You’ll coordinate weekly swim sessions, support swimmers throughout their journey with WeSwim, and make sure the behind-the-scenes admin is handled accurately and calmly. You’ll play an important role in welcoming new swimmers into our community, building relationships with other third-sector organisations, managing waiting lists, and helping ensure our clubs remain active and well-attended.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic & Operational Leadership
· Lead the day-to-day running and strategic direction of the charity in line with the Board’s vision.
· Develop, manage, and oversee the charity's resources and workstreams.
· Ensure governance, compliance, and policies/procedures remain in good shape.
· Support the Board with fundraising strategy and financial accountability, including financial forecasting and reporting to funders.
2. Programme Management & Delivery

3. People & Volunteer Management
· Provide leadership, support, and development for staff, managing issues such as payroll, sickness, and holidays.
· Oversee the Volunteer Co-ordinator to develop a comprehensive volunteer management process, including recruitment, training, and 'Reward & Recognition’.
· Help inspire 100 men to give back to the community through volunteering.
4. Partnerships & IT Development
· Maintain and forge new community partnerships (e.g. with voluntary organisations, NGO’s, other charities and social enterprises) to enhance volunteering, education, and wellbeing services.
· Spearhead the development of our IT Platform, focusing on a robust website and a Beneficiary Management System (CRM) for efficient reporting, data capture, and engagement.
· Oversee digital marketing and communications, including newsletters and social media content.

An exciting opportunity to be involved in the development of a growing adult literacy charity as it expands across North England
One in 20 adults in the UK has never learnt to read at all. This can have a serious impact on their confidence and wellbeing, limiting access to training, employment, and everyday opportunities that many take for granted. Being unable to read as an adult can be isolating and dangerous, reinforces social inequality, restricts economic growth, and worsens intergenerational disadvantage - but it is never too late to learn.
Read Easy helps adults transform their lives by learning to read. It does this by supporting its growing network of locally run, volunteer-led affiliated groups that offer free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching—both in person and online to adults - aged from 18-88.
With its free, flexible, confidential approach, Read Easy encourages people who are too embarrassed to join a class to come forward for one-to-one support. Each new reader is provided with their own personal Reading Coach, so that they can learn in private and at their own pace. Learning to read transforms their lives in many other ways as well, including enabling them to support their children’s and grandchildren’s reading, and so transfers the benefits to the next generation.
There are currently 80 affiliated Read Easy groups across England, together involving more than a thousand volunteers. Read Easy UK is the registered charity and umbrella organisation which supports this network of affiliated volunteer groups and provides the structure, training and support to enable volunteers to establish groups in new areas.
As our North Regional Adviser, your role would be to provide strategic leadership, guidance, and oversight to ensure that all volunteer groups in your region consistently deliver high-quality services aligned with Read Easy UK’s strategy.
You will support local volunteer leaders to strengthen group performance, and foster collaboration across affiliated groups, so that that they deliver coaching to Readers with consistent quality, and a positive and worthwhile experience is had by all.
You will also find volunteers to ‘pioneer’ four new groups in the counties where there is no Read Easy presence and provide them and our 17 existing groups and pioneers in the region, with high-quality support. Your quality support will ensure that they provide the same for their volunteers and new Readers. From meeting (mostly online) with Team Leaders to provide one to one support, and hosting online and annual in-person volunteer forums, to delivering presentations and occasional training for small groups of volunteers, this is a dynamic and rewarding role.
This is a home-based post requiring flexibility, some early evening working and occasional travel to visit groups. The role is available on a part time basis (22.5 hours p/w, 60% of 37.5 hours p/w FTE).
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Live within one of the following areas: York, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire or Greater Manchester (Due to the location of our groups in the region, and to ensure efficient travel);
- have been employed to work with volunteers for at least two years;
- have strong people management and interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills; and the confidence to run meetings and deliver presentations.

- Annual Salary £17,770 (60% of -£29,500 FTE)

In this role, you’ll lead a diverse portfolio of IT projects, working closely with technical specialists, business analysts, and colleagues across the organisation. From initiation through to delivery and transition into business-as-usual, you’ll be responsible for planning, budgeting, risk and dependency management, governance, and clear reporting. You’ll also help drive positive technology change, share best practice in project and change management, and represent IT within larger, cross-organisational programmes.
This role blends strong technical understanding with excellent project management skills and offers the opportunity to work with a high degree of autonomy while making a meaningful impact in a dynamic and evolving environment. Projects are delivered using the Society’s project management framework, aligned to PRINCE2, alongside an increasing use of Agile and hybrid delivery approaches as our ways of working continue to evolve.
About you:
You are an experienced IT or Technical Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering technology projects from initiation through to completion. You’re comfortable working in complex, fast-paced environments, managing multiple priorities, and maintaining a clear focus on quality, outcomes, and value. You have a solid understanding of IT systems and delivery processes and are confident applying structured project management approaches, alongside Agile/hybrid ways of working and have some line management experience managing projects coordinators.
You excel at building positive relationships and communicating clearly with a wide range of stakeholders, from technical teams to non-technical colleagues. Collaborative and organised, you bring a proactive, problem-solving mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement. You’re motivated by work with purpose and are keen to use your skills and experience to help deliver meaningful change for people affected by dementia.
You'll have:
- Extensive experience managing end-to-end IT projects, from planning and initiation through to delivery and closure
- Strong working knowledge of PRINCE2, alongside experience using Agile or hybrid project delivery approaches
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and collaborate effectively across departments
- Experience delivering change, including process improvement and organisational process re-engineering
- Excellent organisational, time management, and risk management skills
- A strong track record of engaging and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders
- Proficiency in project management tools and the Microsoft Office suite
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting colleagues in project and change management best practice
What you’ll focus on:
- Delivering projects aligned to the IT Roadmap and strategic objectives, ensuring outcomes meet agreed time, cost, and quality measures
- Engaging stakeholders across the organisation to secure input, commitment, and support throughout the project lifecycle
- Working closely with the Business Engagement Manager to identify and track project benefits
- Partnering with business analysts to analyse data, define requirements, and develop effective solutions
Implementing process improvements and supporting organisational change as part of project delivery - Managing risks, issues, and dependencies, providing clear updates and reports to stakeholders and governance boards
- Coordinating project closure and ensuring a smooth handover into business-as-usual operations
- Motivating, guiding, and supporting project team members, including analysts, testers, and technical specialists
