Training & Commercial Manager (Maternity Cover – 9 Months)

The Role

The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is an internationally respected professional body with over 12,000 members, dedicated to advancing the use of statistics and data for the public good. We are seeking an experienced Training & Commercial Manager to oversee the operation, promotion and delivery of the Society’s flagship training and commercial activities during a maternity cover period.

You will lead the management of our entire training portfolio, ensuring high‑quality course delivery, coordinating and supporting trainers, and building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. You will ensure RSS training reflects current market demand, is well planned, financially robust and positioned for sustainable growth. Alongside training, you will oversee the Society’s smaller advertising income streams, including Significance magazine and the RSS jobs board, ensuring effective administration, customer satisfaction and sustainable revenue growth.

On a day‑to‑day basis, you will manage the full operational delivery of the training programme – coordinating logistics, maintaining clear communications with trainers and delegates, responding to enquiries, and overseeing the Moodle learning platform. You will manage key financial processes including invoicing, budgeting and reporting, and act as the central point of contact during live course delivery to ensure smooth and professional execution.

Finally, working closely with colleagues from across the organisation, you will develop effective marketing campaigns to promote training and commercial activity, drive bookings and achieve financial targets. You will also contribute to cross‑organisational projects, including the RSS website redevelopment, ensuring training and commercial activity is effectively integrated across the new site.

Your main responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end delivery of RSS training – planning, scheduling, coordinating and supporting every course.
• Liaise directly with trainers and clients to build relationships and deliver a polished, professional experience across virtual and in‑person formats.
• Implement engaging marketing campaigns to drive bookings, raise awareness and achieve targets.
• Maintain accurate financial records and processes including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, invoicing and reconciliation.
• Deliver continuous improvements across operational systems, including the RSS Moodle platform.
• Manage RSS advertising products, ensuring smooth customer journeys and successful promotional campaign delivery.
• Play a key role in the RSS website redevelopment, shaping how training and commercial activity appear and function online.
• Monitor performance, track KPIs and provide insights and reporting to support business decisions and drive income growth.

Contract Terms

• Competitive salary: £37,897 pro rata.
•  9-month maternity cover.

The Job

Reporting initially to the COO, the Finance Manager will lead all day‑to‑day financial operations and provide expert financial advice across the organisation. The role covers monthly and quarterly management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight and ensuring compliance with Charity SORP and statutory requirements.

You will manage and develop the Finance Officer, coordinate the annual audit, support the preparation of statutory accounts, oversee grant‑related financial processes and maintain key relationships with outsourced partners including payroll, pensions, audit, banking and investment providers.

The Person

The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant with strong technical reporting skills and solid knowledge of Charity SORP. You will bring experience from the charity or wider not for profit sector, along with confidence in preparing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial analysis. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to explain financial information clearly to colleagues and trustees. Highly organised, analytical and proactive, you will demonstrate strong attention to detail and a collaborative approach. Experience with SAGE 50 is helpful but not essential. An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the Medair UK team as we are seeking a part-time Operations Support Officer to provide crucial support in a varied role. The post holder will be responsible for Medair UK’s financial and office administration, including maintenance of the organisation’s CRM database and some fundraising support. You will ensure the accurate processing and timely delivery of donor and financial information and acting as first point of contact for the organisation, you will be responding to supporter enquiries. You will also provide general office, and IT support to the Head of Operations.

Together, we work in some of the most remote and difficult places on earth, empowering people to build a better future. This year our teams in Sudan have remained operational, working under the most difficult conditions, and launched a new response in Chad to support those fleeing across the borders. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, we received global coverage as one of the first responders saving the lives of communities affected by Mpox – and no lives were lost amongst those we treated. We also scaled up in Lebanon supporting at displaced communities affected by the conflict. In 2024 through our experienced national and international teams we helped 3,743,021  people across 13 countries.

About you

You will have experience of working in an office administration role, including financial processing and have proven experience with databases. You will be comfortable working with and prioritising high volumes of work. In addition to your experience of completing routine, complex tasks accurately and systematically, you will be able to maintain quality and attention to detail. Confident, polite and professional with excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team, you will have strong planning and organisational skills, with experience of maintaining office and administrative systems

Key Activities

      Donation Processing

• Responsible for the timely recording and processing of all incoming donations (including via our website, bank account, third party platforms and cheques) into the Medair UK CRM (Salesforce).
• Ensure all donors receive gift acknowledgements / thank you letters corresponding to each gift received.
• Maintain up-to-date records of donors, staff and other contacts in the Medair UK database.
• Process and record completed Gift Aid declarations and support in the regular reclaim of Gift Aid.

      Financial Administration

• Inputting of all financial data (income and expenditure) into Quick Books.
• Preparing and following up suppliers invoices for payment.
• Processing expenses claims.
• Managing the banking of income and supporter cheques.
• Support the Head of Operations to implement the month and year end reconciliation process for both Salesforce and Quick Books.

      Facilities & Office Management

• Act as first point of contact for the office and public enquiries, responding to incoming telephone calls and emails.
• Answer basic enquiries about Medair's work and distributing information to supporters and others as required.
• Manage and order office supplies, stationery and equipment.
• Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment, administrating risk assessments, H&S and fire safety procedures.

      Information Technology

• Ensuring the maintenance of the IT system and handling minor in-house IT technical issues for staff and volunteers. 
• Liaising with the Global Support Office IT Helpdesk team to ensure the timely set up of IT for new staff and volunteers – i.e. setting up email addresses, and relevant permissions.
• Ensuring that IT permissions are current, and that these are amended as and when staff and volunteers leave.
• Assisting with continuous improvements in Medair UK’s use of IT.

​    Engagement Support

• Supporting fundraising activities with data segmentation and the production of standard and custom reports in Salesforce
• Supporting the production and automation of email newsletter and appeals via Campaign Monitor
• Setting up new Salesforce campaigns with tailored reports and dashboards to track donations.
• Producing digital surveys and web-forms as required.
• Providing support to Medair’s virtual events, including the technical administration of Zoom and pre and post event attendee administration.           

      HR Administration

• Organising and co-ordinating staff and volunteer inductions ensuring that the induction checklist is completed.
• Supporting the Head of Operations with team training and organisational learning and development opportunities.

Qualifications - DESIRABLE

• Vocational qualification in business or financial management / administration desirable

 Languages

• Excellent English (spoken and written).

 Experience / Competencies – ESSENTIAL

Prostate Progress is Prostate Cancer Research’s flagship digital data programme, supporting prostate cancer research, service improvement, and clinical trial recruitment using patient-reported outcomes and NHS clinical data.

This role will provide senior-level project management and delivery coordination across the Prostate Progress programme. The postholder will be responsible for organising, tracking, and supporting delivery across multiple workstreams, ensuring strong governance, clear documentation, and effective coordination between internal teams and external partners.

Working closely with the Director of Patient Projects & Influencing, the role will help ensure day-to-day delivery runs smoothly and predictably, enabling senior leadership to focus on strategy and long-term programme development.

Responsibilities

Programme & project management

• Provide day-to-day delivery leadership across the Prostate Progress programme, prioritising activity, resolving delivery issues, and escalating strategically where required.
• Maintain project plans, timelines, action logs, and risk registers.
• Track progress against milestones, flagging risks, dependencies, and delays.
• Support delivery across multiple concurrent workstreams, ensuring activity is coordinated and documented.
