This role can be based in any office where we have presence. If the post-holder is based in the UK, our UK offices are in Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, and Warrington. You will be required to attend the office for a minimum of 2 days per week with the option to work remotely for the remaining 3 days.

About the role

Reporting into the Health, Safety, Security & Safeguarding Lead, the Health, Safety & Security Manager is a key role for the operational management of the safety and security function and the provision of related technical expertise to our colleagues at all levels and areas of the organisation.

The post-holder would monitor and uphold compliance on safety and security matters and promote a positive and inclusive safety and security culture across Christian Aid.

Some of the main areas of responsibility for the Health, Safety & Security Manager are:

• Monitor and uphold compliance requirements thinking critically about existing processes as they relate to safety and security.
• Ensure that health and safety processes and ways of working globally align to relevant legislation and standards.
• Provide training to Christian Aid staff and partners on safety and security topics to maximise impact creating a culture of continuous learning.
• Work with Christian Aid staff and partners to embed and embrace a mindset of safety and security in all activities.
• Support partners to develop and implement their own safety and security policies and procedures.
• Support safety and security focal points through accompaniment and community of practices.
• Actively engage with external stakeholders to exchange knowledge, foster partnerships, and stay informed on emerging trends and best practices in safety and security.
• Develop and maintain technical resources to empower staff and partners, and promote continuous improvement.
• Provide incident management support to the leadership team, in line with organisational values and goals.
• Conduct after action reviews and support investigations, giving feedback to promote continuous improvement.

• Bachelor's degree - or equivalent experience.
• Substantial experience of working in a similar role within a development or humanitarian organisation.

We’re looking for a compassionate and strategic individual to join our Rail Team as the Regional Development Lead (RDL) for the Wales & Western routes. This is a pivotal role, responsible for building strong, collaborative relationships across the rail industry and leading on local delivery of Samaritans’ suicide prevention activities within the region.​

As RDL, you will work closely with industry partners such as Network Rail, train operating companies (TOCs), and the British Transport Police, to drive forward meaningful change and support those impacted by suicide. From developing Joint Suicide Prevention Plans (JSPPs) to representing Samaritans at regional meetings and organising post-incident support, your work will help save lives and support communities.​

The Role

As a Retail Field Manager, you will oversee a group of charity shops within your designated geographical area, with the goal of maximizing sales, income, and community impact. What You’ll Be Doing

Income and Profit

• Conduct weekly store visits, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing actionable plans to drive sales and profitability.
• Analyse store financial performance and develop tailored strategies to achieve targets.
• Maximize Gift Aid income and ensure compliance with YMCA and HMRC regulations.

Stock and Logistics

• Drive stock generation activities and collaborate with the Stock Manager to secure corporate donations.
• Ensure effective stock processing procedures to maximize sales while minimizing waste.
• Manage the day-to-day logistics of van crews and drivers, monitoring performance using the vehicle management system.

People Management

• Build and lead a motivated, high-performing team, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.

Community Engagement and Customer Experience

We’re looking for a dynamic and imaginative communications professional to help raise the profile of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, drive engagement and expand our reach and influence. You’ll share the extraordinary impact of our Roald Dahl Nurses, capturing and telling powerful stories of seriously ill children and their families in ways that inspire, engage, and drive action.

From securing local and national media coverage to building authentic relationships with celebrity supporters, you’ll use your creativity and energy to keep our profile high and our mission front and centre.

The PR and Communications Manager will explore innovative methods to promote the brand and its activities to the right audiences through targeted campaigns, significantly contributing to the fundraising efforts of the organisation. You will be working as part of a collaborative and supportive Fundraising and Communications Team, working closely with the Brand and Marketing Manager and Director of Fundraising and Communications.

Responsibilities to Include:

PR & Media

· Enhance the charity’s profile among targeted audiences through strategic PR activities and diverse media channels, both B2C and B2B.

· Proactively cultivate, build and maintain relationships with media partners at local, regional, and national levels in both trade and consumer media, including print, online, and broadcast platforms, as well as with individual journalists.

· Write compelling and clear press releases, blogs, articles, and statements to effectively communicate our messages.

· Respond promptly to press enquiries for comments, views, and supporting information, and maximise opportunities for further engagement on relevant topics.

· Support the fundraising team by highlighting partner stories, managing PR efforts, and supporting events.

· Lead the pursuit of media-related funding opportunities, such as The Times and Sunday Times Christmas Appeal and corporate opportunities like BGC and ICAP days.

· Manage nominations for relevant awards to gain recognition and support for the charity.

· Pursue and implement strategic media partnerships to enhance visibility and outreach.

· Work with the Chief Executive to liaise with Her Majesty, The Queen’s press office when applicable, particularly on key events

Content Creation & Storytelling

· Gather and write compelling stories to share our impact with funders, supporters and media through interviews our families, ensuring brand compliance and accessibility.

Celebrity and Talent Management

· Strategically manage our ambassador programme, keeping our mission prominent and visible, including securing new patrons and ambassadors

· Handle crisis communications professionally and efficiently, maintaining the charity’s reputation.

· Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners (including funders) to ensure consistent and effective communication across all channels.

· Track and evaluate the effectiveness of communications activities and campaigns, providing regular reports and insights to senior management.

· Work with Director of Fundraising and Communications and Brand and Marketing manager to lead the creation, development, and implementation of impactful awareness and fundraising campaigns that amplify our messages, expand our reach, drive growth, and maximise income generation

· Forge partnerships with key stakeholders, including media, to extend the reach of our campaigns.

· Develop and manage effective relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders, including supporters and trustees, media, other charities, companies, and healthcare professionals.

· Analyse communications quarterly, preparing information for the trustee sub-committees with up-to-date coverage examples to share with the team and Board.

Building on our charity’s already established level of support from major donors, you will provide exceptional relationship management to existing donors alongside growing our network of high value supporters.

Working closely with the CEO, alongside managing a portfolio of donors and prospects ensuring excellent stewardship, you will support our Breakthrough-ME Group (a group of high net worth and highly networked individuals). There is an established level of support from major donors at Action for ME so this is a role that will require exceptional relationship management to retain our current valued supporters while growing this crucial area of fundraising. 

This would be an ideal role for an experienced philanthropy professional seeking to work for a small but ambitious charity, helping us to achieve our mission to improve the lives of all people affected by ME – better meeting their needs today while taking action to secure change for tomorrow.

Key duties

Major Donor Fundraising

• Successfully develop and implement the philanthropy strategy to secure and maximise funds from high value individuals for Action for ME achieving annual income of £250k+

• Set plans and budgets which will deliver income through major gift fundraising and philanthropic giving through family trusts and foundations, including quarterly forecasting.

• Manage a portfolio of prospects and donors at the £5k to £100k level, to develop and maintain strong and long-standing partnerships

• Work closely with the Director of Fundraising and Development and other colleagues to ensure that plans and activities for fundraising from high value individuals are integrated into the overall fundraising strategy and plan for significant growth.

• Be responsible for our Breakthrough-ME Group with high quality proposition development.  Contribution to Group fundraising activities with a specific focus on ensuring their networks support pipeline growth for future fundraising.

• Lead the delivery of our biennial fundraising gala dinner, maximising income and new opportunities from attendees.

• Develop engaging and inspiring opportunities to steward and cultivate support creating a calendar of activities including events, presentations, approaches, networking and meetings.

• Utilise the CRM database (Raisers Edge) to provide the data required to strategise your approach to philanthropy, monitor progress and provide a high-quality donor experience.

• Ensure utilisation of insight & data, producing management information data to inform planning and strategy development.

• With the Director of Fundraising & Development, create inspiring cases for support and resulting propositions with clear budgets and outcomes.

• Create adequate systems and processes to support the major donor programme.

• Undertake and manage research into prospects and major donors, preparing for approaches and presentations and briefing senior leadership and trustees for donor meetings and events.

• Develop and maintain relationships with donors, a wide range of staff and volunteers from trustee level down.

• Provide regular feedback and internal reporting to line management.

• Work with other fundraisers to ensure that all fundraising opportunities and leads are followed up – particularly in corporate, community and trust fundraising.

• Work with Trustees, the Chief Executive and members of the Leadership Team to develop relationships with major donors.

• Self-administrate including managing your own diary and meetings, keeping accurate and up to date records of activity

• Occasional travel to London, Bristol & events
