Who we are
Angel Shed is a charity based in Islington, North London, specialising in inclusive performing arts for children and young people. We provide a safe space for children to express themselves, develop confidence and grow into curious, creative, and courageous young people.
We facilitate accessible activities for children and young people of all backgrounds and abilities; anyone is welcome to join, we never audition, our workshops are free to those who cannot afford them, and we provide one-to-one support for those who require it.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a Chair with experience of charity or organisational governance as well as a passion and a belief in giving children and young people access to inclusive and participatory performing arts. This appointment is an opportunity to have a positive and lasting impact on a growing charity that is really making a difference for children and young people in the Islington community.
Angel Shed will be celebrating its 20th year anniversary during 2024 and we are seeking to build on our continued success to develop and grow as we move into our third decade.
Remuneration:
The role of Chair is voluntary and is not a paid position. Expenses for reasonable costs, such as travel and care of dependants may be claimed.
Location:
Angel Shed's home is at City and Islington College, Islington, North London. All Board meetings are currently held here.
Time commitment:
6-9 board meetings per year, as required, with email contact and organisation between each. The Chair is also required to have regular meetings with the Artistic and Executive Director, and to represent the charity at various events and meetings.
Tenure:
An initial 3-year term, with the option for re-election for up to two further terms.

The specific experience and skills we are seeking to recruit in these two roles are:
·Trustee 1: Current or recent experience as a an academic in a UK university, with insight into the landscape of postgraduate opportunities, outreach and selection, and good practice in supporting student welfare.
·Trustee 2: Experience and skills in operational management, covering issues such as IT, finance and HR systems, project oversight and risk management.

The Trust
The Kennedy Memorial Trust funds exceptional UK students to pursue graduate studies at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Set up as a ‘living memorial’ to President Kennedy following his assassination, the Trust has funded some 600 Kennedy Scholars since the first cohort departed in 1966.
The Trust prides itself on the talent and service of the candidates it selects. Following their time at Harvard or MIT, scholars have gone on to play leading roles in the UK and across the world, in public service, the law, science/technology, health, education, business, charities, the arts and media. Alumni of the programme include Lady Mary Arden (Supreme Court Justice from 2018 to 2022), Lord Mervyn King (Bank of England Governor from 2003 to 2013). David Miliband (ex Foreign Secretary, now CEO of the International Rescue Committee), Dame Kate Bingham (Chair of the UK Government's Vaccine Taskforce), Zanny Minton Beddoes (Editor-in-Chief, The Economist), Sir Richard Moore (Chief of MI6) and Matt Clifford (CEO of Entrepreneur First and Chair of the UK's Advanced Research and Invention Agency).
Originally funded by public donation, the Trust has an endowment of around £16 million. It has developed a medium-scale fundraising programme over the last decade, and now intends to grow both its alumni activity and its fundraising, taking advantage of the forthcoming 60th anniversary of the first scholarships being awarded. An externally conducted feasibility study for the fundraising programme is underway at present.
The Trust is supported by a small administrative team. A new Director has just been appointed. The team is being strengthened to reflect plans for increased fundraising and alumni relations activity: a part-time executive assistant is in post, and a fundraising/alumni relations specialist will be recruited later in the spring.
The Trust is a registered charity overseen by a ten-person Trustee board chaired by Professor Sir Mark Walport. Many but not all of the Trustees are former Kennedy Scholars. The current recruitment is to replace Stephanie Flanders and Professor Fiona Macpherson, who will have served two five-year terms by Autumn 2024.
What Trustees do in the Kennedy Trust
As with any charity, Trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the administration of the charity. It is the role of Trustees to develop and update the charity’s strategy and oversee its work to deliver it. Trustees support and challenge the executive team to deliver on the charity's goals, oversee the charity’s finances, approve its policies, manage risks, and help to build its external networks.
In the Kennedy Trust, selection of scholars is a key annual activity: a number of Trustees are asked to be involved in the short-listing process, and Trustees also participate in two days of face-to-face interviews (currently in early January).
A recent Board Development Review has established a revised structure of sub-committees to handle detailed issues in a time-efficient way, and make more time for strategy within the Board itself. The new sub-committees are set out below.

Time commitment and specific contributions sought
The time commitment for Trustees is:
- Attendance at and preparation for three 2-3 hour board meetings a year, in spring, summer and autumn. In-person attendance is encouraged at all meetings, especially the summer meeting.
- Participation in two days of interviews in person in London in January.
- Participation in at least one of the board’s sub-committees (2-3 meetings, usually online).
- Ad hoc and occasional support to the Board and to the executive team on issues within the Trustee’s skillset.
- Where possible, attendance at trust events such as the annual summer reception, the annual lecture, and other ad hoc alumni gatherings.
Qualities and experience sought
For all Trustees we seek:
- Enthusiasm and energy to support the purpose and future of the Kennedy Trust and the Kennedy scholarships
- Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good judgement and work well within a team
- Experience of governance in a profit or not-for-profit setting
- Commitment to stay up to date with good practice in charity governance and in candidate interviewing

For the academic trustee we are looking for
·Current or recent experience as a an academic in a UK university
·Someone who would make a good contribution to the Academic, Scholarships, and Welfare sub-committee, whose major task will be to conduct and oversee the shortlisting process each Autumn
·A good understanding of how study options at Harvard and MIT fit with the wider landscape of postgraduate opportunities elsewhere
·Extensive experience of candidate selection and good practice in shortlisting, interview, and selection
·The ability to add value to the Trust’s ambitions to further widen diversity of the scholar pool
·Insight into, and experience of, handling welfare issues for postgraduates and supporting candidates to make a success of their award.
·No academic discipline is ruled in or out. However, when the current Chair reaches the end of his term we shall lose our only Trustee with a medical background. This is therefore a gap we hope to fill at some point in the next few rounds of recruitment.
For the operational trustee we are looking for:
·significant experience of operational issues gained, for example, as a COO, CEO, project or programme director, operations director, or in a start-up
·someone who would make a good contribution to the Finance, Operations and Audit Committee
·proven experience in business planning, risk management, and project planning and management
·someone who can assist the Trust in some of the operational projects that lie ahead, such as modernising its administration, data-systems, website and records, and overseeing a move to more flexible office accommodation

The Prout Bridge Charity is a small but mighty charity based in West Dorset and we are seeking to expand the expertise within our team on a voluntary basis. We are a local cornerstone charity, nurturing the physical, mental and emotional well-being of children, young people and adults.
Our services include:
Safe and supportive youth clubs where our young people can thrive, in sports, music, art, outdoor and other activities. Physical activities on offer include football, hockey, basketball, rounders, badminton, tennis, table tennis, scooters, skateboarding, running and games. We also have a youth band - the Phoenix.
Experienced youth worker mental health support in schools and one-to-one sessions for young people who are struggling + outreach in the town, skatepark and surrounding villages
A free adult counselling service for anyone over 16 that people can turn to in crisis and time of need
A community hub, bringing people together in local social, sports and craft groups + a baby and parent group, providing a safe warm space, and giving easy access to the Food Bank, Citizens Advice, Read Easy adult literacy and the Bridport Clothing Bank.
We are looking to expand the skillset on our Board of Trustees and would welcome contact from individuals who evidence experience of working in the charity or not for profit sector.
Experience we are looking for would be around corporate, community and/or major donor fundraising however if you have exposure to a particular area of fundraising and are compelled by our cause we would love to hear from you. Relationship development is pivotal to our success therefore understanding what motivates an individual or organisation to support us will be key.
As a charity we can offer you the experience of working with a hands-on Board of Trustees and exposure to understanding the workings of a small but impactful charity, across all levels. Background to the RJ4All Internships
RJ4All was originally set up by volunteers, and it would not exist without their involvement and continued support. Therefore, RJ4All recognises their significant contribution. The vast majority of our interns are young people most of whom are faced with challenges let those be social, financial, migration or refugee status etc.
The RJ4All internships are not paid, but offered on a volunteering basis. This is because we believe that volunteering is an important way to make a positive contribution to our communities and is of particular benefit to young people who are often forgotten or marginalised. Nevertheless, volunteering with RJ4All does not mean standing outside of tube stations wearing bunny suits to raise funds! It involves high quality project activity, engaging with social project and policy issues, and making a real difference where it matters. It also means doing youth-led work, organising events and running user-led training workshops. All out of pocket expenses are paid (see Volunteer Policy for more detail).

The role
This is a supporting role working under the line management of the Community Centre Manager. It is an office-based position at our RJ4All Community Centre in Rotherhithe working across projects and RJ4All services. The post holder will support the organisation to ensure the effective administration of the RJ4All Centre and the delivery of RJ4All programmes through a combination of excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Initiative and innovation are attributes that are highly valued at RJ4All. Furthermore, the post holder will be involved in delivering project-related tasks as well as promoting projects, participate and create workshops.
Volunteering hours under this role are between 9:30am-5:30pm and the placements are usually offered on a minimum of a 3-month engagement.
Role description
We want to offer a rounded experience to all our interns and therefore they are engaged in five different areas of work:

Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre (ERCC) is a specialist support service for women, non-binary people, members of the trans community and young people aged 12 and over in Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian who have experienced recent or non-recent sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse and commercial sexual exploitation.
Their charitable objectives are to reduce the distress and suffering of people affected by sexual violence through the provisions of support and information, and to increase awareness of sexual violence and its impacts within the wider community. To deliver these projects, ERCC provide a range of trauma-informed services for survivors of sexual violence, including short-term and longer-term therapeutic support, advocacy, outreach, and group support.
ERCC additionally deliver training for a range of stakeholders, and work in schools and with young people across Edinburgh and the Lothians, and strategically with multi-agency partners, towards preventing sexual violence. The organisation currently comprises 40 staff and volunteers, and 10 trustees.
The Role of Trustee:
As a Trustee for the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre, you will be commitment to their values, ethos, and charitable objectives. Your key responsibilities include collaborating with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance, overseeing risk management, setting a clear strategic direction, ensuring compliance with legal obligations, and maintaining financial responsibility. This involves reviewing and updating strategic objectives, addressing risks, monitoring finances, ensuring legal compliance, delivering high-quality services to survivors of sexual violence, supporting the staff and volunteer team, promoting ERCC within the community, and participating in the wider Rape Crisis network through shared training events.

At Mid Norfolk Mencap we are passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities and their families. Enabling people to live independently, person-centred care is at the heart of what we do.
Our mission is to support and enable the people who use our services to lead fulfilling lives, to be involved in their local wider community, and to have access to the same opportunities as all members of society.
Mid Norfolk Mencap was established since 1977, and every year we provide residential living, social opportunities, and specialised Community Outreach support for more than 100 people with a learning disability in Norfolk. However, with around 16,500 adults in Norfolk with a learning disability, we know we can do so much more.

Position: Trustee
Location: Trustee Board meetings and many of our charity’s activities take place in Dereham. In addition, some work may be required remotely using Zoom/ Teams, or in other parts of Norfolk from time to time.

Responsibilities
This role is suited to candidates who can demonstrate professional or skills-based knowledge of benefit to the charity. We would particularly welcome applications from people with experience in the third sector, PR, fundraising, governance, risk management, management and law, and accountancy.

Training
You will be given a basic induction to the charity and opportunities to meet with the senior management team. We also strongly encourage trustees to spend time participating in our services delivery, getting to know our staff and volunteers – and most importantly, our beneficiaries. We will customise a training and familiarisation package for the successful candidate based on prior knowledge and experience.
Our Recruitment Process

We are looking to recruit several new trustees who will share our passion for Cornwall’s heritage and how museums can change lives for the better. Qualifications:

Responsibilities
Along with supporting the coaches to set up & pack away each session, you'll be given first hand experience of coaching 4- 11year olds by working with the coach to learn the following-

Implement training sessions that draw inspiration from Lionel Messi's efficient style of play, emphasising simple yet effective techniques in ball control, dribbling, and decision-making.
Tailor coaching strategies based on team and individual player assessments, aiming to enhance technical proficiency by encouraging an efficient and easily replicable style inspired by Messi.
Highlight Messi's style of play as not only effective on the field but also accessible and easy to emulate, fostering a culture of simplicity and effectiveness.
Aggression and Determination in Physical Development (4 Corner Model):
Infuse aggression and determination into physical training plans with Maestro & Hunter, aligning with the 4 Corner Model to address players' physical well-being in relation to psychological/technical improvement .
Collaboratively implement fitness regimes that not only enhance physical attributes but also instil a mindset of determination and tenacity in each player.
Psychological Resilience and Embracing Healthy Competition (Coaches Triangle):
Integrate psychological resilience training into coaching methodologies with Maestro & Hunter, focusing on mental strength, stress management, and a growth mindset, (captains mentality).
