• Legal Strategy: Collaborate with our Executive Director to develop and implement effective legal strategies to advance our objectives. Conduct research and analysis to identify key issues and tactics to drive impactful change.

• Advocacy opportunities: Communicate legal strategy with the Advocacy and Communications Officer to ensure opportunities to advocate and communicate are not missed. 

• Public Relations: Represent The Animal Law Foundation at events, conferences, and public forums to raise awareness of animal law and policy issues. Collaborate with partner organisations and stakeholders to amplify our legal strategy and build strategic alliances.

• Project Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of legal initiatives. Analyse data and feedback to inform future strategies and improve outcomes.

• Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders, including lawmakers, government agencies, NGOs, and the public, to build support for our objectives. Coordinate advocacy efforts, coalition-building, and public consultations.

What does The Animal Law Foundation do? 

The Animal Law Foundation was registered with the Charity Commission in August 2022. It is primarily a legal research charity that looks into neglected areas of animal law and where appropriate will instruct lawyers to bring legal challenges to secure any systems in place to protect animals function as they should.

Groups like this exist in the environmental and the human rights space in the UK and in the animal protection space in other countries. There is a desperate need for such work to exist for animals in the UK. 

The UK still has some of the best animal welfare laws in the world, yet the opportunity for vast change contained within these laws is rarely explored. Through exploring these opportunities the whole system for animals can be improved and set global examples. 

It is of vital importance that laws that exist to protect animals are understood and applied. The Animal Law Foundation will work alongside stakeholders to ensure that this happens. 

About The Role

About the opportunity

The Training Officer will have a range of administrative responsibilities relating to Action Tutoring’s tutor training delivery and curriculum resources.

As Training Officer, you will support the Training Team by scheduling sessions in digital systems, organising and checking ID and DBS documents submitted by volunteer tutors, and responding to enquiries to support a smooth tutor journey. The role does not involve delivering training to volunteers

1. Fundraising

1. • Develop and Lead Fundraising Strategies: Create bespoke, multi-stream fundraising strategies for a range of clients. This includes capital appeals and other large-scale projects, helping clients raise significant funds for transformative goals.
   • Income Diversification: Advise clients on how to diversify their fundraising portfolio, reducing reliance on any single income source and building resilience.
   • Trust and Foundation Fundraising: While the role is broader, you will still oversee and deliver trust fundraising work, including researching funders, writing bids and proposals, and supporting clients to steward donors effectively. You will also mentor and upskill clients and their teams on best practices.
   • Support the Director with developing strategic resources for fundraising including digital courses, blogs and downloadable resources for charities.

2. Business Development

About you:

• Experienced Fundraising Leader: You have a proven track record of success with five or more years of experience in fundraising. You demonstrate the ability to develop and execute effective, multi-stream strategies. You can tell us about fundraising successes you have been an important part of.

As Research Manager, you will oversee a portfolio of research grants from application through to delivery, supporting researchers and ensuring effective management of funding. You will also play a vital role in tracking and demonstrating the impact of Marie Curie’s research, helping to evidence the difference it makes for patients, carers, and services. Your expertise will directly contribute to building a stronger evidence base and closing gaps in palliative and end-of-life care.

Your Impact:

• Manage pre- and post-award research funding processes, including applications, reviews, contracts, and reporting.

It has been shaped by international, regional and European initiatives aimed at addressing forest governance issues and drivers of ecosystem destruction (FLEGT Action Plan and Voluntary Partnership Agreements, EU Deforestation Regulation, Global Biodiversity Framework, Paris Agreement, etc.). Though each jurisdiction has its own unique challenges in relation to forest governance, the extensive expertise of our local partners, combined with ClientEarth’s innovative use of the law, ensures that tailored and effective legal solutions are delivered in each country to strengthen legal frameworks. 

In this role, the Law and Policy Advisor / Lawyer will primarily address issues relating to forest governance, climate change and community tenure rights in our focus countries across West and Central Africa, particularly in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. The Law and Policy Advisor / Lawyer will use their experience and skills to support the legal capacity of civil society and other stakeholders to take part in the design and implementation of stronger legal frameworks around forest governance, community rights and forest-risk commodities (specifically timber, cocoa & minerals)

This is a parental leave cover position (six months with potential for an extension) and the successful candidate will be expected – after a sufficient handover – to take on and progress an existing portfolio of work.

Main Duties

• Managing ClientEarth project activities in Côte d’Ivoire and in Ghana in coordination with the teams Project Manager and Officer, including planning, budgeting and reporting 
• Critically analysing laws, legislative and policy proposals relevant to forest governance (including carbon market frameworks), land and community rights, forest-risk commodities (including minerals), gender and access to justice in the countries of engagement 
• Maintaining positive working relationships with in-country partners (in particular with civil society organisations, international partners, national governments, as well as private sector representatives, as relevant).

Working to specific income targets, the Supporter Engagement Manager is responsible for acquisition campaigns including regular giving, direct mail appeals, online fundraising, legacies;  retention campaigns including ongoing stewardship to increase supporter engagement. You will grow relationships with supporters and work closely with wider fundraising team to devise and execute creative and effective stewardship journeys. You will have a sound understanding of fundraising membership schemes and sector regulations, with knowledge of best practice CRM and/or fundraising database.

The Supporter Engagement Manager will work with the Senior Head of Supporter Engagement to develop the strategy for increasing income across all individual giving streams and then work with the Marketing and Communications Manager and the wider team to implement it. You will play an instrumental part in creatively engaging supporters to get involved in our high-value campaigns, events and regular giving programme. This includes our annual matched-funding campaign and reoccurring giving programmes, which last year raised £1m and £150k respectively. The London Support Programme (LSP) is a pilot service delivered by the Hardman Trust, providing pre- and post-release support to people on long sentences who are returning to London. This first year of delivery has enabled us to begin offering support, and we are now refining the programme for its next stage.

We are recruiting two part-time, Prison Caseworkers to deliver frontline support, ensuring that people serving long sentences continue to receive consistent, personalised help in preparing for release and rebuilding their lives.

As a Prison Caseworker, you will provide one-to-one, person-centred support focused on wellbeing, confidence-building, and preparation for life after release.
You will support people to set meaningful goals, connect with services, and problem-solve challenges along the way.

The role involves building trusting relationships, promoting the programme across the prison, keeping accurate records, and contributing to the continued development of this pilot into a sustainable, long-term service.

You will be managed and supported by the Head of Service Delivery.

Core responsibilities

• One-to-one support delivery – Provide tailored support to people in prison signed up to the LSP, including initial support planning, goal-setting, problem-solving and referrals to both internal (e.g. Grants, Research Volunteers, Penfriends) and external services.

• Remote support – Provide light-touch support to LSP participants released from prison, during their initial weeks of resettlement, using telephone/video calls, and email to check in, offer guidance, and help address early challenges.

• Service promotion – Actively promote the LSP within pilot and potential partner prisons to increase sign-ups and engagement.

• Administration – Keep accurate, timely records of support activities and outcomes using Salesforce and NOMIS systems.

• Service development – Support the Head of Service Delivery by contributing learning and feedback from frontline delivery, to inform the ongoing refinement of the programme model and resources.
