About the role

We’re looking for a social media and community officer to join our team and work across our large online communities on social media and our peer-to-peer support forum. You’ll be a key part of our day-to-day delivery of content and engagement and ensure that our key messages reach our audiences.

This is an exciting time to join the charity as it launches its new five-year strategy this autumn to supercharge our efforts to transform the lives of anyone affected by breast cancer.

You’ll work collaboratively across the charity on exciting campaigns to deliver our social media strategy through engaging content on our different channels. You’ll work closely with our volunteer community champions on our forum to ensure our forum remains a safe space for people affected by breast cancer to support one another.

About you

You’ll be passionate about social media, curious and proactive. You’ll be experienced in creating, publishing and scheduling content across channels natively and using third-party tools, as well as supporting and moderating online communities.

Organised and with great time management, you’ll become a key part of our social media and community team and cross-organisational campaigns.

Primary location of role and hybrid working

This role is primarily based in either our Cardiff, Glasgow, London, or Sheffield offices. Our hybrid working model allows you to work up to 3 days per week at home.

A powerful campaigning organisation, Brain Tumour Research is the leading voice of the brain tumour community in the UK. Unique and much needed, we are the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. Our work focuses on campaigning to increase the national investment in research into brain tumours to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence, across the UK.​

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.  All of us at Brain Tumour Research are passionate about finding a cure for this devastating disease.  

Job Purpose:

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who wants to build a career in the charity sector and make a difference in one of the most innovative and exciting medical research fundraising charities in the UK. ​

As the Community Fundraising Assistant (East), you will play a crucial role in helping the charity meet its strategic plans and objectives, which include campaigning to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK. ​

Your role will be to support our East region to generate and grow our income through community fundraising activities, contributing to a regional team target of £1.5 million.  ​

You will possess good time attention to detail and time management skills. You will also have a positive ‘can do’ attitude, a personable manner, and will embrace the desire to make a measurable difference. ​

You’ll enjoy being part of and contributing to a busy, experienced, fast-working, and dedicated fundraising team while working cross-functionally with other departments such as PR, marketing and Research, Policy and Innovation. ​

We ask that the successful candidate be flexible and willing to travel, if there is a large event that our supporters need assistance with. ​

Brain Tumour Research is an exciting, innovative, and ambitious charity. We are passionate about finding a cure for brain tumours through the establishment of dedicated Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence around the UK.

Reports to: Community Development Manager - East​

Direct Reports: None ​

Location: Hybrid, working two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) at our Head Office in Milton Keynes. ​

Contract: Permanent   ​

Hours: Full time ​

Salary: circa £27,000​

Requisite Skills and Experience: ​​

Essential 

• ​Experience of working in an administrative or customer service environment
• A good communicator, with the ability to converse sensitively and empathetically with members of the public, who may be going through current or recent traumatic experiences  Ability to work proactively and independently 
• Flexible, embraces change and development, and can work occasional evenings and weekends when necessary 
• Experience of working with MS Office, especially confident in Word and Excel. 
• Outstanding organisation and time management skills ​
• Access to a car and full driving licence ​​​

Desirable 

• ​Experience of working with a database / CRM / SharePoint and Asana or other task management platforms 
• ​Experience of working with and recruiting volunteers 
• ​Experience in community fundraising, donor management and stewardship ​​

Main duties:  ​

• Respond to supporter fundraising queries from across the East Region, predominantly via email or phone​

• Support the delivery of community fundraising activities and events across the East Region, but predominantly within the areas of London and Home Counties​

• Research and identify opportunities for support from within the East Region ​

• Ensure fundraisers that you support have access to relevant fundraising advice, guidance and accurate signposting, whilst promoting best practice in fundraising ​

• Keep our CRM database fully up to date with information about our supporters and their fundraising activities ​

• Provide administrative support for the East region​

• Work collaboratively with other teams within the organisation​

• Play an active role in the wider Community Fundraising Team and Income Generation Directorate

Working with the pathfinder partnership, you will create, develop and deliver tailored support pathways to women across Greater Manchester who have experienced sexual violence and present with additional complex mental health needs. 

The pathfinder partnership joins up services in the VCSE sector across Greater Manchester (including We Are Survivors, Greater Manchester Rape Crisis & MASH) and works closely with NHS services to provide survivors of sexual violence with increased access to mental and physical health support.

You will:

• Design and develop individually tailored care plans and pathways for clients in the service.
• Undertake individual risk and needs assessments for clients entering the pathway.
• Deliver 1:1 trauma-informed, survivor-centred therapeutic interventions.
• Work within a multi-agency partnership to liaise with other health and social care staff from a range of agencies.
• Accurately record clinical interventions and maintain a high standard of record keeping.
• Engage in monthly clinical supervision and regular line management as directed.
• Provide accurate client reports to pathway partnership that represent the clients’ wishes and needs.
• Participate in the development and implementation of continuous service and system improvement.

This role presents opportunity to work innovatively & responsively, creating new, unique, & informative LGBT+ affirmative resources, crisis support, prevention & wellbeing initiatives; along with having a developmental role in upskilling & supervising sessional staff, trainees, interns & volunteers. 

This is an exciting job opportunity to join a dynamic & committed team, in a key frontline role working directly within our Heads-Out mental health service, which provides individualised mental health plans, crisis safety plans, mental wellbeing workshops, varied mental health support groups including for those seeking asylum, a trans & non-binary group; LGBTQ+ mental health social connections & activities group, and drop-in support.

Opportunities will include delivery of specialised interventions, taking direct referrals and helping to support & stabilise those at heightened risk and/ or living through mental health crisis, plus psychoeducation workshops and group programmes will further enable you to engage, empower & support participants to build confidence, develop skills, strategies & achieve goals to improve, maintain & best manage mental health, increase mental wellbeing, and reduce and/ or prevent future crisis.

elop is a  London based thriving community-led LGBT+ mental health & wellbeing charity offering a range of support, advice, information, counselling, and group support services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT+) communities. 

There will be one regular evening/ week and occasional weekend working required.

NB: Initially there will be some remote home-based working alongside office-based working whilst we relocate to new premises
