Prospect Research Manager (Corporate Partnerships)

Contract: 12 Months, Fixed term contract, Fulltime, Maternity Cover

Salary: £39,358 - £41,325 with excellent benefits

Location: London, UK

Hybrid Working: A minimum of 40% of working time is spent face to face, either in the London office or as a result of external engagement or travel for WaterAid. WaterAid is located at Canary Wharf, London, and this will be your location and contract base.

About the Team:
The Corporate Partnerships team fosters relationships with companies with a view to driving and encouraging high-value donations, strategic action in supply chains, employee fundraising activities, fundraising products and commercial opportunities, including cause-related marketing and mass participation events. In developing new and existing partnerships the team also initiates dialogue and collaboration on policy and influencing, advocacy and technical service delivery.

About the Role:
You will lead on the development and delivery of a prospect research strategy to support the strategic development of our partnership portfolio. In collaboration with the Senior Partnership Development Manager you will develop and implement a prospect research strategy to grow partnerships and income. You will also oversee all aspects of the prospect pipeline process and present monthly KPI reports to the Partnership Development team, liaising with the Performance and Insights team as required to adapt reports to meet the team's needs.

You will maintain a strong role in understanding and promoting the role of research in enabling our fundraising teams to maximise donor engagement and income, through informed prospect identification, cultivation and stewardship.

More specifically, this includes:

  • Proactively identifying prospects that have a strong fit with our strategy in terms of alignment and capacity to give
  • Building and managing the prospect pipeline across the team, and leading on 'moves management' to ensure we are effectively managing and supporting potential and existing prospects to have a great experience
  • Ensuring our prospect development strategy is understood consistently across the wider Strategic Partnerships team
  • Providing recommendations on how to engage prospects, considering motivations and existing networks
  • Producing research profiles, reports and biographical briefings
  • Developing and utilising internal and external prospect research databases and network mapping systems to identify sources of warm prospects
  • Identifying relevant events for Partnership Development Managers to attend for networking and/or insight-gathering purposes, and developing detailed briefs on events speakers and attendees
  • Ensuring quality control of prospect research processes and documentation
  • Recommending appropriate and cost-effective research tools and manage this part of the expenditure budget.

About you:

  • Educated to degree-level/equivalent educational standard, or significant equivalent work experience
  • Strong understanding of the role of research in good prospect management, cultivation and stewardship (in commercial or not-for-profit environment)
  • Experience carrying out prospect research for corporate partnerships using relevant databases and research tools
  • Very strong research and analytical skills, including ability to produce detailed and insightful profiles and network lists for prospective individual and organisation partners
  • Ability to analyse complex information and communicate clearly and credibly for delivery to a variety of audiences in written reports, presentations and meetings
  • Stakeholder management knowhow to build and maintain great working relationships at all levels, and influence, internally and externally
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with ability to work under own initiative to meet deadlines and prioritise conflicting deadlines successfully
  • Proven ability to translate understanding of business requirements into relevant market research audience insights, with ability to spot, interpret and identify opportunities from market trends
  • Experience of using a fundraising or customer relationship management database (at WaterAid we use Microsoft Dynamics).
