Has your track record of managing high value gifts from trusts/lottery or similar institutional funders given you an excellent understanding of their needs and a flair for reporting back to them in detail? Then join Shelter as a Grant Manager and you could soon be managing our Trusts and Foundations team's largest grants and helping us secure exciting new ones.
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.
Our Income Generation Directorate is mostly based in London, with smaller teams across England and Scotland. We have ambitious plans for growth in response to the national housing emergency over the coming years and will raise close to £40m to support Shelter's work across our diverse range of income streams. The Trusts and Foundations Team has just doubled its income, under very difficult circumstances. Several large new partnerships are now in place (which you will be supporting on), with the prospect of more in the pipeline. Put simply, this is your chance to play a big part in helping us achieve our goals by taking on this brand new role that will offer plenty of variety to keep you busy.
About the Role
Your focus will mainly be on grant management - reporting to trust and institutional donors and supporting the administration of funding won. However, we may also rely on you to help develop proposals at times, when appropriate. Essentially, you'll ensure key milestones and timelines are captured for each grant. This will involve designing and administering a grant reporting structure to enable the Trusts team to easily comply with donor requirements. It's not a donor facing or fundraising role, and you won't have an income target. But, if your passion is for seeing projects and grants come to life, facilitating them, reporting back on their impact and building strong interpersonal relationships along the way ¿ this role could be your perfect next career move.
About you
A great opportunity to make a significant impact for the leading housing and homelessness organisation in the UK, you'll need to be enterprising and systematic, with excellent attention to detail and a flair for engaging and managing internal stakeholder relationships. You also need to be self-motivated, with lots of initiative and the curiosity to quickly understand the foundations' activities and independently solve problems. A track record in grants management is a given, including a strong understanding of grant management systems and some experience of building and improving operational processes. And, because you'll work closely with our finance and programme teams, knowledge of grant management finance and/or any experience of working closely with programme teams, would be useful.
Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
To find out more about the role and the benefits of working for Shelter please visit our website. Apply to be part of our team and be the change you want to see in society.
Safeguarding is everyone's business. Shelter is committed to protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of those we support, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. All our staff will be expected to observe professional standards of behaviour and conduct their work in line with our Safeguarding Policies.
Shelter does not accept unsolicited CVs from external recruitment agencies nor accept the fees associated with them.
We will be sharing some of the interview questions with candidates shortlisted for an interview 3 days before the interview.
If the opportunity to manage Shelter’s relationships with our key strategic Trust and Institutional funders sounds like the kind of challenge you'd relish, then join us as a Senior Trusts and Foundations Manager. We’ll provide the infrastructure, the strategy and the rewards, including flexible working. All you need to bring is your proven experience as a trusts fundraiser, natural relationship building skills, an eye for opportunity and a desire to make a real difference.

You will take the lead on developing and managing relationships with, and securing funding from, our portfolio of warm donors capable of giving six- and seven-figure gifts, while also ensuring that secured grants are well-managed and effectively reported on, and that new funding opportunities are assessed and responded to, in collaboration with colleagues across the organisation. Managing and monitoring performance of two direct line reports is a key aspect of this role, as is maintaining consistently high-quality standards for all proposals and other communications sent to trusts and institutional donor audiences.

WASTEAID - HEAD OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION
Homebased within UK, with some preference for Scotland or Northern England (potential for limited international and national travel)
Line Manager: CEO
Direct reports: Office Manager
Key relationships: Head of Programmes and Impact, Circular Economy Network Director, Project Managers, Finance Trustee
Salary: Circa £42,500 (pro rata) for 3 days per week.
WasteAid
Our vision is a world with equal access to waste services for all.
Helping communities and governments manage their waste properly is vital if we are to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Waste management has a powerful and positive impact on people’s well-being.
Our mission – fighting poverty, pollution and climate change
Around 1 in 3 people globally don’t have decent waste management. Pollution caused by waste harms people’s health and the environment and damages the local economy. In contrast, an affordable waste management system is relatively simple to implement, improving the environment, creating jobs and protecting public health – particularly for children.
Plastic pollution in the marine environment is of major global concern, and WasteAid is helping tackle this global problem. We work with upstream and coastal communities to set up small recycling centres and help keep plastic out of rivers and the oceans. We also share skills in managing organic waste, helping people make the most with their resources.
Open dumping and burning of waste releases climate change emissions, contribute to both short-term and long-term impacts. Black soot from burning and methane from open dumping are of special concern. We offer communities a safe and sustainable alternative to dangerous dumpsites and toxic air pollution.
Our values
Our founding principles come from our origins in the waste management industry, which itself grew out of the public health movement in the UK in the late Victorian era. We believe in equality of access to decent public health for all people and advocate the role of good waste management to achieve this. We are inclusive and empowering of the communities in developing countries that we seek to serve and support. We believe in the power of appropriate technology transfer, training and skills development to create livelihoods and reduce pollution.
We are collaborative and work in a collegiate spirit with all partners and funders.
Our objectives are to:
Inspire and inform communities and individuals who want to improve how waste is managed in their communities and encourage them to act. Support and help communities use waste management to protect public health, reduce pollution and create sustainable livelihoods. Campaign to increase awareness of the problems caused by open dumping and burning and the urgent need for change.
We achieve these objectives by ensuring that we have:
Financial sustainability for our organisation and securing our ability to grow our impact.
Good governance for our charity which includes legal compliance, risk management, safeguarding, health & safety and robust oversight.
