Sussex Emmaus is a charity dedicated to supporting individuals who have experienced social exclusion or homelessness. We provide accommodation for up to 58 people, offering a home, tailored support, and the opportunity to gain skills and work opportunities through social enterprises run by the charity.

We are now recruiting for a Warehouse Co-ordinator to ensure the efficient running of the warehouse (Undercroft). You will be joining a friendly and enthusiastic team who are passionate about what they do.

The Coordinator ensures the warehouse is organised and is following applicable laws and regulations. This includes working with Companions and volunteers, overseeing receiving, sorting and pricing of donations, always maximising income. This is a hands-on role where your ability to lead by example will motivate our team of Companions and volunteers to provide exemplary customer service and to generate a financial surplus to support the charity.

You will supervise and work alongside Companions who are allocated to the warehouse during the business operating hours with conduct issues being managed by the Business Manager. You will also supervise and work alongside volunteers who are allocated to the warehouse during business operating hours with the Business Manager handling any conduct issues that may arise.

Duties & responsibilities
People

• To work alongside and train Companions to increase their skill base and confidence
• To organise the deployment of tasks to individuals and team members
• To train, supervise, motivate, and inspire volunteers and companions.
• To help devise and deliver induction on standards of work to new team members so that retail activities are delivered to the agreed brand, including customer service, merchandising, pricing, stock control, and culture
• To ensure that all activities under supervision are engaging, enabling, empowering and holding to account the team members

Warehouse Operation

• To ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations by maximising quality donations and minimising waste
• To ensure day-to-day smooth and productive processes are being implemented to excellent standards for quality, culture, and legislative compliance
• To be proactive in the generation of donated stock, managing stock collection efficiently and effectively to the agreed standards and timescales under Emmaus guidelines
• To ensure premises, Health & Safety, security, and maintenance checks and actions are complete within the identified time, and to identify new checks or actions to schedule as to comply with Health and Safety requirements
• To ensure that cover for the safe operation of the Undercroft is always sufficient
• To cover van driving shifts as needed.

Stock Management

• To work closely with all Retail Managers to ensure each retail enterprise is receiving adequate stock to generate their required weekly sales targets
• To be responsible for ensuring that only sellable donations and those that conform to all relevant UK government and trading standards legislation are accepted for resale in the shop
• To disseminate any changes from Trading Standards as and when to relevant parties to ensure compliance
• To ensure all donated items are sorted and priced and merchandised to receive the optimum for the charity and the correct procedures are applied throughout the sorting process to allow for coding and pricing to be applied to items

Safety, Health, and Environment

• To oversee all Health & Safety requirements within the warehouse, taking corrective action as and when required, and informing/liaising with managers and team as necessary
• To assist in compiling risk assessments with team members
• Ensure safe working systems are adhered to in conjunction with the Emmaus policies and procedures, and are compliant with all relevant legal requirements
• To ensure that Health & Safety is adhered to in terms of equipment use and that manual handling guidelines are followed
• Ensure work areas follow correct processing procedures, ensuring that the work area is always kept clean and tidy
• Assist in delivering Health & Safety training to new Companions and volunteers
• Recycling/Re-use and Waste Management
• To recommend creative ways to upcycle, reuse and repurpose stock to maximise profit and reduce wastage
• To supervise the disposal of unsaleable items to minimise waste as appropriate in line with Sussex Emmaus’s Environmental Policy and procurement Policy.

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern

This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.

About Shooting Star Children’s Hospices

We have an exciting opportunity for a family support to join our Family Support Team at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices provides specialist care and support to families who have a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition, or whose child has died. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, we support families across Surrey, north-west London and south-west London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

About the role

Family Support Workers (FSW) are the frontline of our psychosocial care. Each FSW holds a caseload of end-of-life and bereaved families. They get to know their families, and check-in regularly with phone calls and home visits and can provide enhanced emotional support where required through more regular contact and interventions. Our FSWs inform families about the different psychosocial care and many services they can access at Shooting Star, assess their needs and make recommendations to our specialist psychosocial MDT. They work hard to support families of different ethnicities and families living in poverty, so that our service is as equitable as possible.

Our FSWs work closely with our Therapists, Counsellors, Social Workers, Transition Team and our Care Events Team. Weekly specialist psychosocial MDT meetings bring the team together to think of ways to help families in crisis. The work is varied and creative, taking place at the hospices, in family homes and hospitals, allowing the support to be where the families need it. Our Family Support Workers are hugely appreciated by the families we support.

The ambition of our strategy is to ensure every family affected by a life-limiting condition, or the sudden death of a child, has access to the specialist care that they need. Day to day duties are:

• Being part of the duty rota over both sites monitoring 3 email inboxes and answering the Family Support Line.
• Supporting the events team with admin tasks and attending various events
• Providing on the spot emotional support, sometimes in a crisis where a calm and empathic response is required.
• Support the in-house team with families staying at Christopher’s for assessed nights and end of life care.
• Attend various sites over the course of a week, hospice, hospital, family homes. Planning your own diary effectively.
• Building connections with families from different backgrounds, delivering culturally competent care.
• Acting as an ambassador for Shooting Star’s Specialist Bereavement Service, supporting other care team members with their learning and delivery of the bereavement pathway, and continually seeking ways to improve quality.

This role requires experience of working with children and families who have experienced hardship, presenting with complex needs. You should have a calm positive manner, be consistent in your approach, and convey empathy whilst maintaining professional boundaries.

As Trusts Officer you will work to secure donations from trusts and foundations to deliver a wide range of organisational priority projects and services, also contributing to the development of the trusts pipeline to support the team’s growth strategy.

We are looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrable experience of securing four and five figure gifts from Trusts and Foundations. 

How you'll help to create brighter futures  

• Work collaboratively and support the team to implement activities to deliver the Trust team’s financial aims with a responsibility for delivering an annual income target, focusing on securing four and five figure donations from charitable trusts and foundations.
• Initiate and develop long-term relationships with trusts and foundations.
• Develop and implement individual solicitation and stewardship plans for existing trusts and new prospects.
• Contribute to a communication and stewardship programme.
• Collaborate with fundraising colleagues to track and report on prospecting activities.
• Take responsibility for ensuring that fundraising partnerships with charitable trusts and foundations achieve their maximum potential. 
• Work with the Philanthropy, Trusts, and Prospect Development Managers to identify new prospects.

• Ability to manage a complex pool of prospects and donors, devising clear donor solicitation plans with the aim of securing long term financial philanthropic support.
• Experience of creative proposal and report writing.
• Experience of preparing budgets for potential funders and for grant reports.
• A professional solutions-focused approach to making effective decisions.
• Experience of using and interrogating relational databases, maintaining accurate financial records.
• Flexible and calming approach to work and willingness to be accommodating over working hours when required.
• Excellent communicator with great interpersonal skills.

Within this exciting role, you will assess a caseload of 30 vocational Diploma learners in a variety of settings at levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 in adult health and social care qualifications and associated subject matters. You will help support staff on vocational qualification programmes in accordance with professional standards, Skills for Care occupational standards and the CQC inspection framework for Health and Social Care.

Age UK Camden is an independent charity supporting older people throughout the borough of Camden. This role sits within the Fundraising and Marketing Team, responsible for raising the profile of Age UK Camden within the borough and generating income for the organisation.​

The Press and Communications officer will oversee our press and media activity, writing press releases and building strong relationships with local and, where relevant, national media. The post holder will be responsible for producing marketing materials – print and online – for the organisation. The post holder will be responsible for Age UK website – liaising with colleagues to keep service information up to date, writing and producing relevant news articles and content as needed, auditing and organising existing website content.  This role also supports the fundraising and income generation areas of work within the organisation including producing communications and materials for aspects such as fundraising campaigns, corporate volunteering and general fundraising activities. ​
