As Head of Supporter Engagement, you will provide University-wide leadership to develop, plan and implement sector-leading fundraising and supporter engagement strategies, policies and programmes – with a particular focus on Regular and Leadership giving (<£10k), Legacy Fundraising, and ensuring an exceptional prospect and donor experience for donors giving at all levels.

As the senior lead for the key public-facing aspects of our fundraising programme, you’ll be accountable for the performance of key fundraising streams. You’ll work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that strategies and operational plans are in line with institutional needs. You’ll support and inspire your team to deliver ambitious targets. And you will provide support and strategic guidance to University leaders, academics, and colleagues across the University.

You’ll also be a member of our Development Leadership Team (DLT), meaning that you will play a significant role in our success across the whole fundraising mix. The transformation enabled by the launch of our first university-wide fundraising and volunteering campaign will provide further opportunities for your role to evolve during the campaign’s public phase.

As Head of Supporter Engagement, you will undertake a range of activities commensurate with the grading and responsibility of the post. This includes:

• Lead the strategic planning for the Supporter Engagement team (currently Donor Experience, Regular and Leadership Giving, and Legacy Fundraising), working with area leads to translating business objectives into clear operational plans.

• Take overall responsibility for the development and leadership of strategic supporter journeys for key campaign audiences, and coordinate communications planning across the Division.

• Lead your team to conceptualise, plan and deliver communications, events, products and experiences that deliver strategic objectives, working collaboratively with colleagues across DDAR and the wider University.

• Proactively identify ways for Supporter Engagement activity to support and complement major and transformational fundraising.

• Identify and leverage opportunities to use university-wide communications and events to support fundraising success.

• Work to embed a culture of philanthropy across the whole institution, ensuring that the relationships, systems and products are in place to involve students and staff in fundraising.

• Be the University’s subject matter expert for your areas of responsibility, providing support and consultancy to senior colleagues, including University Executive members.

• Represent the interests of the Division at University-wide strategy groups and committees as required.

• Oversee financial planning and resource allocation across the Supporter Engagement team.

• Monitor performance across your areas of responsibility, motivating and inspiring your team members to deliver ambitious goals, supporting their development, and embedding a high-performance culture.

• Take shared responsibility for the overall leadership of the fundraising programme as a member of the Development Leadership Team (DLT).

• Be a proactive and visible leader across the Division and wider University.

• Actively contribute to the sector through thought leadership, representing the University at conferences and other sector meetings.

• Role model and embed the “Manchester Mindset” and embody the values and culture of the University and DDAR within your working practice and relationships.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

• Experience of leading significant mass participation fundraising, legacy, and donor experience programme(s) in the higher education or charitable sector.

• A well-developed understanding of the fundraising mix, and the principles and processes that underpin fundraising success at all levels.

• Experience of developing and delivering strategies to achieve business objectives.

• Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-cutting teams to deliver exceptional work.

• Outstanding written and oral communication skills with experience of translating complex information into effective, persuasive and clear language for a variety of purposes.

• Proven experience of policy development and negotiation.

• Experience of working with a wide range of colleagues from a variety of disciplines across a large and complex organisation and providing consultancy and support to senior colleagues on a specialised area of expertise.

• Experience of effectively managing budgets.

• Excellent project management skills.

• Outstanding interpersonal skills with the necessary listening, facilitation and negotiation skills to represent the University at the highest levels, coupled with the highest levels of tact and discretion required to deal with highly confidential information.

About the role

You will lead on the delivery of a portfolio of virtual and DIY fundraising events, including our Facebook Challenges and growing Swim It campaign, with the objective of raising over £6m for people living with cancer.

You will be responsible for recruitment through paid and organic marketing and providing a sector-leading stewardship journey to ensure our supporters feel engaged and inspired from the moment they sign-up, working collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve this. You will also be responsible for line management of 1 direct report, supporting them to inspire a high level of performance.

This role does require weekend work (although not at your desk) as you’ll be out and about cheering on our participants. You will be compensated for your weekend work with days in lieu.

People

Have overall responsibility for all branch employees, including recruitment, employee development and performance assessment.

Income Generation, Fundraising and Publicity

Lead income generation, actively championing and contributing to fundraising events, whilst introducing new ideas and new activity.

Work with the trustees in developing the retail strategy and the growth opportunities of new outlets. 

Digital Media and Marketing

Be responsible for developing the use of digital media to deliver the charity's vision, mission and strategy.

Work with the trustees to develop a marketing strategy, helping our Branch reach more people and generate additional income.

Financial Performance, Governance and Administration

Together with the trustees, develop and implement robust policies, procedures and controls in line with RSPCA guidelines and law, and produce annual budgets and reports for the Branch.

Security, Maintenance and Health and Safety

Ensure the Branch fulfills its duty of care for the health and safety of employees, volunteers and others on site, and have overall responsibility to ensure that the buildings, land and equipment belonging to the Branch are maintained in a safe and secure manner. 

Animal Welfare

In collaboration with the Animal Centre Manager, ensure the Branch delivers on its commitment to care for and ensure the welfare of animals, overseeing compliance with RSPCA standards and policies, relevant legislation and best practice in the provision of animal welfare services.

The Head of Finance will primarily have responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities. You will have direct responsibility for the finance function.

​The Finance Manager will oversee the finance operations and lead on the preparation of management accounts, budgets, funding requests and internal and external reporting. Our Adventure Playground Manager plays an integral role within our Children, Young People and Families team, supporting our Head of Service to create inspiring, high quality and child focused youth and play services. PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Finance 

· Prepare financial management information including regular cash flow forecasts, reports, budgets, grant claims and management accounts for project managers, CEO, Board of Trustees and funders

· Ensure all statutory financial and other records, compliances and related inspections are met on time and records kept with regard to PAYE, NI, VAT, Companies House, Charities Commission, insurance, pension provision, audit requirements and annual reports

· Working closely with the CEO, prepare project and annual budgets, liaising with relevant staff

· Provide support and guidance to all budget holders for the effective management of budgets

· Maintain all financial systems and records for the organisation, including financial administration relating to general ledger, audit trails, Theatre Tax Relief, banking, petty cash management, staff expense claims and credit control

Building & Operations 

· Ensure appropriate licensing and insurance is in place

· Organise the supply of utilities to Emmanuel Hall

· Manage delivery of IT tech support contract and others as required

· Management of contractors and suppliers e.g. cleaner, electrician, waste collection

· Management of supplies necessary for smooth running of the building e.g. hand towels, stationery, cleaning products

· Management of general maintenance

Health & Safety

· Support the CEO in creating and implementing the Health & Safety Policy

· Co-ordinate Health & Safety administration, including monitoring, reporting and training

· Ensure H&S information is communicated to all staff, project staff, users and visitors as appropriate

Governance

Human Resources

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Salary £30,000 pro rata,

Fixed term 9 month contract, with the intention to extend funding dependent.

Start date is flexible.

The post is for three days (24 hours) a week.  However, sometimes we’ll need you to work flexibly to meet the needs of the programme of activity – including occasional evening and weekend work.  Equally, we’re happy to discuss flexible ways of working to accommodate caring responsibilities etc.

You’ll be based at our home, Emmanuel Hall, but we’re open to a hybrid working pattern.

You’ll be entitled to 28 days annual leave pro-rata, including bank holidays, as well as other statutory entitlements such as sick leave and pension contributions.

Sufra is an innovative charity in Northwest London that prevents hunger, fights poverty and builds community.

With the help of our volunteers and partners, we coordinate a network of food banks and community kitchens, as well as a social supermarket and café. We want to ensure that everyone with blood cancer, regardless of circumstances, has the support they need to navigate their blood cancer and live well. In this role, you’ll transform how people with blood cancer access and experience our products and support services. 

You’ll lead on service transformation projects such as:

• Growing our Direct Referral Service across the UK, where NHS Trusts are referring newly diagnosed patients for an ongoing journey of tailored information and support
• Scaling up our Clinical Trials Support Service, so we can support many more people than we are currently around understanding and accessing clinical trials
• Improving access to clinical trials for ethnic minorities, by testing and piloting new interventions in communities

With a Service Designer to support you, you’ll lead user research, prototyping, testing and iteration of new products and services. You’ll ensure our service transformation programme is working on scalable and sustainable products and services that meet user needs and strategic goals.   

This is a relatively new role, so we are looking for someone excited by the opportunity to embed it in the organisation and build strong ways of working. The 2021 Census shows that around 36% of Camden’s households are now made up of private renters, and in the Haverstock and Primrose Hill wards, where this project will operate, it’s 27% and 35% respectively. This group of residents is often unaware of what services are out there to help them, where they are located, and how they access them.

This new role has been created to outreach and engage with private renters in the 2 wards specified and it will also include information production, dissemination and project management work. The worker will set up the project and is the key person in ensuring the smooth delivery of it in line with its stated aims and objectives.

Please note: You will need to be based in/around London for this role as it involves work within specific locations in the London Borough of Camden and is not suitable for home working or long distance travelling.

Specific responsibilities

An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:

• To deliver all aspects of CSE’s Human Resources function, from recruitment, staff welfare, wellbeing and associated support, staff records, training and professional development, oversight and advice on any conflicts or disciplinary matters; and to include the development and maintenance of all appropriate staff policies and processes, including performance management and staff appraisals, remuneration, role progression and all staff benefits.

• To ensure the Staff Handbook remains regularly updated, and to lead on all amendments / updates to this key document for staff. Additionally, working alongside the Director of Finance & Operations, the Chief Executive and other directors to ensure all HR-related policies and procedures across CSE are reviewed regularly and remain updated accordingly, supporting staff needs as effectively as possible while also reflecting the needs and strategic objectives of the whole organisation, its charitable status and mission.

• To maintain the organisation’s personnel records in accordance with appropriate data protection standards and recognised good practice (utilizing the Cezanne HR system). To provide overall ownership of this system – in terms of data contents, security and ongoing operations for the system. The postholder will also act as primary contact for the Cezanne software supplier, liaising with the Director of Finance & Operations and other interested parties where necessary.

• To maintain oversight of staff welfare and working with line managers and other relevant staff, provide and promote access to support and advice to sustain good staff mental and physical health and wellbeing.

• To play an integral role supporting both the Employee Voice (EV) group and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) group and take a lead on related operational functions including administrating the 6-monthly Staff Survey and highlighting issues and trends in staff feedback.

• Provide oversight and guidance in respect of staff recruitment, onboarding, induction development and training, supporting and advising other relevant staff across all associated processes.

• To issue accurate and timely employment contracts, offer letters, job descriptions, pay review letters for all internal changes. Manage and oversee internal paperwork flows from relevant managers, relating to any changes to individual employee terms of employment. Support the SLT in reviewing and amending standard terms of employment contracts to ensure CSE’s practices reflect current best practice.

• To ensure that all payroll documents such as starter forms and payroll amendment forms are completed and saved in the correct location and sent to the payroll bureau where appropriate, and support the Finance team with the administration of our payroll and payroll records and pension scheme contributions and other employee benefits. To accurately track all staff absence and ensure that self-certification and return to work meetings are completed in a timely manner. Update the Bradford factor grid to monitor score against policy and, support line managers and employees in understanding how CSE uses this as a tool at all stages of process.

• To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of applicable employment, equity and diversity, and Health and Safety laws (with support from professional advisors where appropriate), standards, guidance, and good practice, advising the SLT how these can best be reflected in the organisation’s policies and practices as they apply both to individual members of staff and to the organisation as a whole.

• To prepare accurate and accessible reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees on relevant organisational, team, and individual staff HR matters to enable informed and timely monitoring and decision-making, principally on a set cycle to feed into a routine schedule of meetings and occasionally to meet an ad hoc need.

• To work with the Senior Leadership Team and other staff as appropriate to support change management processes. This may include reviewing remuneration policies, job evaluation and salary benchmarking, skills audits, EDI Practices and line management practices.

• To identify opportunities to improve CSE’s Human Resources processes and practices, informed by a sound understanding of our mission and strategic objectives and our operating context and by keeping up to date with advances in personnel management and human resources practices. Essential attributes for this role include:

• CIPD qualification (Level 5) or equivalent Human Resources qualification.

• At least 5 years’ post-qualification work experience, including at least 2 years’ proven experience in an advisory role.

The Digital Engagement Officer is a key member of the Marketing and Communications team and will support the day-to-day running and development of our digital channels. You’ll work to drive engagement, reach new audiences and provide a smooth supporter experience.

You’ll be writing and uploading content to our website, analysing performance, reporting back on learnings and developing plans for improvement. You’ll also help run our email programme. This will involve managing our supporter newsletter, with the support of the Senior Digital Engagement Officer. It’ll also cover growing our list of supporters consenting to hear from us, running testing plans and assisting other teams with their mass email needs.

You’ll work closely with the Senior Digital Engagement Manager, Senior Digital Engagement Officer, wider Marketing and Communications team and colleagues across fundraising, policy, research and services to contribute to the digital elements of the marketing and communications strategy.
