About the role

This is a hands-on role for an experienced organiser who will lead key aspects of our community organising practice. You'll design and deliver training workshops, coach emerging organisers, and build meaningful relationships with both partner organisations and individual members to expand our movement.

Working with campaign teams across the UK, you'll ensure organising principles are woven throughout our programmes whilst supporting communities to build power, win campaigns, and develop new leaders. You'll create resources and content to scale our impact, evaluate our training effectiveness, and strengthen Act Build Change's contribution to the organising field.

This role requires regular travel and a passion for grassroots work, offering the opportunity to shape how we build collective power for change.

Act Build Change is a transformative organising school that makes community organising and collective care methods accessible to everyone who wants to end injustice.

Since 2019, we've supported over 150 collectives and organisations across the UK and Ireland, working with those with disabilities, migrants and refugees, young people, carers, working class communities, LGBTQ+ collectives, those living in poverty and the intersections across those identities.

Our work includes delivering training and resources, supporting communities to navigate difference and change, and providing coaching for organisers and movement leaders.

Key responsibilities

Training and development

• Develop Act Build Change's transformative organising pedagogy and lead internal staff training to ensure team-wide fluency in our curriculum and approach.

• Design and deliver engaging organising training both online and in-person, adapting our curriculum for diverse audiences and needs.

• Provide on-the-ground shadowing and coaching to develop the skills of organisers and movement leaders.

Community building and partnerships

• Build strategic relationships across the organising field with practitioners, partners, and the broader social justice ecosystem.

• Lead key cohort projects, ensuring high-quality delivery and effective ground-level action.

• Lead event planning and facilitation for community-facing programmes, workshops, and strategy gatherings whilst expanding our membership base.

Team leadership

• Line manage programme staff, supporting their wellbeing, development, and performance through regular supervision and feedback.

• Foster a workplace culture rooted in collective care, accountability, and anti-oppression practices.

• Collaborate with team members to improve internal systems, document learning, and refine training practices.

Fundraising and sustainability

• Raise at least £60,000 through partner projects, funding bids, and membership dues to ensure financial sustainability.

• Contribute to strategic planning, evaluation, and organisational learning to guide Act Build Change's future development.

• Professional with management experience in the charity, social justice, or non-profit sectors.

What we offer

Salary and benefits

• £45,000-£51,500 salary, depending on experience.

About the role

What will I be doing?

• Working with the Product Manager to account manage and develop various high-value relationships with 3rd party event partners across the portfolio ensuring that we hit our income goals by achieving participation targets

• Pitching externally for new or renewal business, including completing applications and/or meeting event organisers in person 

• Building networks with event organisers and key partners within the Sports sector 

• Building knowledge, relationships and stewarding key internal relationships to maximise the value we get out of our partnerships

• Responsible for creating and managing Sports Team web pages and social media pages and producing innovative and bespoke content that is user friendly across all devices and that drives engagement and participation

• Attending on-the-day of events to steward key participants and event partners

• Working with our Event Delivery on key events to plan on-the-day activity and activations

• Taking responsibility for ensuring targets (participation and financial) are fulfilled for your accounts, working with event organisers to improve performance as needed

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. As part of this role, you will be required to participate in our local Warwickshire domestic abuse helpline, on a rota basis.This requires covering a later shift from 12:30 – 20:30, approximately twice per month.

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Domestic Abuse Community Outreach Worker to provide high quality practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence and their children living within Warwickshire.

The Community Outreach worker will inform the survivor on the options and support available, empowering the survivor to make decisions and achieve their goals to increase their safety, confidence and independence.The role involves working with a range of statutory and non-statutory agencies to advocate on behalf of survivors and promote access to services to meet their needs. 

The outreach worker will work within a designated locality within Warwickshire to provide drop-ins and support to community services to enable survivors to access services. They will also participate in the delivery of group work to help survivors along their journey to recovery.

The post-holder will maintain a manageable caseload of clients needing support with their welfare rights and benefits. The role is to support the Welfare Rights Advice Project Team with the following:

1. To carry out an initial client assessment, identifying any issues with their benefits and any claims they can make to maximise their income.
2. Provide casework (including challenging decisions) for welfare benefits available to clients with mental health difficulties and their carers: i.e. Personal Independence Payments, Universal Credit, Employment and Support Allowance and Housing Benefit.
3. Provide information and advice as appropriate about issues related to a client’s particular situation.
4. Provide advice and casework for mobility and discretionary schemes and personal grants that could be of benefit to clients.
5. Take referrals directly from service users, carers or staff from other agencies (encouraging use of our online referral form)
