Director of International Fundraising

Position Objectives:

• Assist the Vice President of International Fundraising to plan, develop, and execute successful fundraising strategies to maximise net income for PETA and other PETA entities

• Work with key fundraising staff members of PETA and other PETA entities to enhance productivity and ensure compliance with rules and regulations

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Work closely with the Vice President of International Fundraising and senior department staff, as well as key contractors and vendors, to identify short- and long-term fundraising goals, objectives, and metrics, and effective strategies to meet those goals

• Work with all department staff to ensure strong morale, effective team building, and intradepartmental communications

• Work with staff members to create a work environment conducive to creativity, cooperation, and “best practices”

• Work with PETA and other PETA entities to increase online and e-mail donations, direct-mail and telemarketing donations, prize-led fundraising, and net income

• Support the Vice President of International Fundraising to develop and implement strategies to solicit major gift income and planned gifts for PETA and other PETA entities

• Develop PETA’s and other PETA entities' annual direct mail/telemarketing and online/e-mail fundraising budgets, including setting specific fundraising goals and benchmarks

• Work closely with the Vice President of International Fundraising and the Events team to develop a schedule of donor events, both in-person and virtual, for PETA and other PETA entities

• Serve as a liaison between PETA US' Policy and Marketing departments and the PETA Foundation's (US) Production, Legal, and IT departments for all direct-response fundraising projects and content, including privacy, technology, and design issues

• Ensure that all international direct-response fundraising efforts are streamlined and coordinated to make the best use of resources and minimise duplication of efforts

• Identify new technologies, fundraising programs, staffing requirements, and strategies to boost net income across the department and the organisation

• Work with the PETA Foundation's (US) Development team to coordinate and integrate fundraising campaigns globally

• Provide back-up and support as requested by the Vice President of International Fundraising

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

• Significant and demonstrable experience working within an international fundraising program

• Significant management experience

• Excellent project management skills

• Excellent problem-solving, numeracy, and analytical skills

• Excellent computer skills and Internet research skills, including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Proven ability to take initiative, work independently, and cooperate with others

• Proven ability to meet short deadlines and be flexible

• Experience with HTML editing and other web tools a plus

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Beacon, now in its second decade of operation, has experienced substantial growth over the last three years, including an organisational rebrand and expansion into international projects. We are now recruiting a Senior Patient and Scientific Engagement Officer to play a central role in delivering ambitious projects that put patients at the heart of translational research.

This role sits at the crossroads of patient involvement and scientific communication, building meaningful collaborations between patients, researchers, and other stakeholders. You’ll provide essential operational support and subject expertise to ensure projects run smoothly and reflect the real-world needs of the rare disease community.

You will contribute primarily to two of Beacon’s major collaborative initiatives: REMEDi4ALL, a European-wide drug repurposing platform with over 25 partner organisations, and the LifeArc Translational Research Centres for Rare Disease (LifeArc TrC4RD), a UK-wide partnership. In this role, you will work directly and regularly with partners across these consortia, encompassing patient group leaders, patient representatives, academic researchers, clinical trialists, and beyond. You will act as a vital interface between patients and researchers in both projects, coordinating activities, facilitating collaboration, and embedding patient perspectives throughout the work. While these will be your main focus, you will also support other initiatives across the charity, particularly those aimed at advancing scientific understanding of rare diseases and strengthening patient involvement in research.

This is a varied position offering the chance to apply and further develop your expertise across areas such as patient and public involvement, scientific content development, training, and stakeholder engagement. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Your main responsibilities will span aspects of project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and patient-centred scientific support. In this role, you will:

• Support the delivery of Beacon’s work within REMEDi4ALL and the LifeArc TrC4RD, collaborating directly with partners across these consortia to coordinate activities and ensure timely delivery of shared goals.
• Assist in the preparation of project materials, reports, and updates for consortium meetings and communications.
• Write, review, and refine accessible, patient-facing materials that explain complex scientific concepts and research projects clearly.
• Help design and deliver patient engagement strategies for major collaborative projects, ensuring patient perspectives are embedded throughout.
• Support and liaise with REMEDi4ALL Patient Champions and the LifeArc Patient Engagement Group, including coordinating mentorship, facilitating input into project teams, and managing communications.
•  Build and maintain strong working relationships with patient advocates, researchers, funders, and partner organisations, ensuring clear communication and effective collaboration.
• Contribute to the planning and delivery of multi-stakeholder meetings, workshops, and webinars that bring together patients, researchers, and other partners to discuss research priorities and approaches.
• Support the creation and delivery of training materials, sessions, and talks for patient groups, researchers, and other stakeholders on topics such as patient and public involvement (PPIE) and rare disease research.
• Participate in project discussions to understand current patient engagement and provide input or signposting to improve engagement and support.
• Represent Beacon and its work at consortium meetings, external conferences, and events – both as a delegate and, where appropriate, as a speaker.
• Support other Beacon-led projects as required, particularly those focused on advancing patient knowledge, engagement, and scientific understanding.
• Provide hands-on support for the on-the-day delivery of Beacon events, training programmes, and other charity activities.

 PERSON SPECIFICATION

This is a mid-to-senior level role. Candidates should have professional experience in scientific engagement, patient involvement, or research coordination, and be ready to contribute confidently to collaborative consortium projects with external partners.

We are looking for someone with a strong commitment to patient-centric approaches, who is willing to advocate for patients’ perspectives and priorities, while also navigating the need for compromise and collaboration across multiple organisations.

 

Essential

• Relevant professional experience (e.g., life sciences, medical communication, translational research, or patient engagement), ideally accompanied by a scientific qualification.
• Experience in patient and public involvement or patient engagement within research, ideally in health contexts.
• Strong understanding of scientific processes, translational research, or clinical research, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to non-specialist audiences.
• Ability to work effectively within multi-partner or consortium projects, collaborating with external organisations.
• Confidence in liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including patients, researchers, funders, and partner organisations.
• Experience developing accessible, patient-centred materials, training, or communications.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal skills and confidence in building relationships across diverse groups.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Leading People Operations: embedding excellent policies and processes, and advisory support

· Provide leadership of the the day-to-day People and Culture team at the Charity, including direct management of the People and Culture Manager, Volunteer Development Manager, and Learning and Engagement Manager.

How are staff supported to work remotely? 

VoiceAbility has a small number of offices. Employees including Team Leaders are homebased for Administration and meetings will be held online as well as in person in the relevant community. 

When you need to travel for work, expenses will be paid (mileage or public transport costs).

VoiceAbility offers the usual regular manager one to ones, Staff forums and communities of practice depending on role. Team meetings with a mix of virtual and in person approach.

It’s an exciting time to join World Cancer Research Fund International’s policy team as we develop the next phase of our policy tools and resources. WCRF International leads and unites a global network of cancer prevention charities based in Europe and the Americas, providing the science, policy, and strategic direction that guides their work to prevent cancer worldwide.

We are recruiting a Senior Policy Research Manager to lead WCRF’s flagship policy tools, including NOURISHING, MOVING and the Blueprint for Cancer Prevention. You will translate the latest science into actionable policy recommendations, deliver high-quality research projects, and represent WCRF externally to maximise our national and international impact.

We are looking for a candidate with strong policy research expertise, experience in evidence-based advocacy, and the ability to turn complex science into clear policy solutions. You will have a proven track record in managing policy tools or research projects, building collaborations and engaging senior decision-makers. As a Finance Business Partner, you will work closely with the directorates, department heads and regional budget holders (supporting multiple sites), ensuring the delivery of full and effective financial service.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Ownership of budget and forecasting process for your community/ directorate /depts operations. 

• Working as a team with the other Finance Business Partners, ensure a timely process and a high level of accuracy and engagement. 

• Compilation of the monthly management accounts, including KPI’s and explanations for major variances to budget. 

• Build and manage relationships and network productively. 

• Working with budget holders to provide insight and challenge the performance of operations identifying trends and opportunities for improved financial performance. 

• Responsible for all journal entries into the accounting system for the directorates, and departments they support e.g., accruals, prepayments etc. 

• Ensuring best practices is adhered at the communities and with budget holders so that they are compliant with organisation financial procedures. 

• Provision of support and guidance to operational staff to assist them in effective use of the Trust financial systems. 

• Monthly review of rotas, payroll, and commissioned income to identify any issues of overstaffing or commissioned rates. 

• Responsible for the Annual income review for any uplifts including annual housing rental review. 

• Ensuring sales invoicing is undertaken on a timely basis by the Assistant Finance Business Partner (as and when required). 

• Reconciliation of the Income proof in totals. 

• Effective credit control, to ensure receipts are received on a timely basis. 

• Work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure all financial returns are completed and submitted Centrally on a timely basis e.g. weekly banking’s, year-end accounts etc. 

• Maintain a regular stock take and stock valuation process. 

• Responsible for review of relevant community expense (nominal) codes, ensuring income and expenditure is coded appropriately. 

• Line management of Assistant Finance Business Partner.

Sounds great, what will I be doing?

The role involves reporting and analysis by examining different business areas, producing reports for budget holders and the executive team, and presenting conclusions to support decision-making. Responsibilities include analyzing business performance on a monthly basis for specific areas, meeting regularly with strategic budget holders to review spending, highlighting underperforming areas, and supporting executive budget holders in implementing improvements. Reports will be prepared that link both financial and non-financial information.

In terms of budgeting, the role requires working with executive budget holders to develop annual budgets and monthly forecasts, with a strong understanding of the key drivers behind budget bids and forecasts.
