About the role:
At Single Homeless Project's (SHP) Elms, we’re looking for a passionate and experienced Support Assistant ready to make a lasting difference in people's lives. Elms is a vibrant service based in Leyton (Waltham Forest) that brings together supported housing, a daytime activity programme, and a small floating support service. The supported housing element provides longer-term placements for adults with a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia, some of whom may also be managing physical health needs. Here, you’ll play a vital role in supporting residents to maintain their daily routines, manage their treatment, and grow in confidence as they move toward greater independence. From encouraging healthy eating and personal care to assisting with medication prompts and helping to keep living spaces welcoming and safe, you’ll be a consistent and trusted presence in their journey.
You’ll also contribute to our lively day service, where activities like bowling, lunch clubs and gardening groups help individuals reconnect with their community, learn new skills, and find joy in shared experiences. In addition, you’ll support former residents who are now living semi-independently, offering that extra bit of help as they navigate life with increasing autonomy. Working closely with Project Workers, you’ll be involved in a wide variety of recovery-focused tasks across the service, with the chance to build meaningful, lasting relationships along the way.

About you:
- An understanding of the principles of planned support and working with clients with multiple disadvantage.
- A level of numeracy sufficient to carry out tasks such as budgeting with clients, calculating benefit entitlements and understanding rent arrears.
- The ability to be self-motivating, work under pressure and manage time effectively, prioritising different areas of work according to need.
- An ability to be self-servicing in the use of IT applications and basic keyboard skills to record activities and to send and receive emails.
- The ability to coach someone to undertake a range of practical tasks relating to their independent living including moving into a new home.

About the Role
We are looking for a resourceful, energetic and outgoing individual who can deal effectively with challenging situations and behaviour, motivate young people to manage risk and support a team of professional staff in a supported accommodation home in Lewisham.
Key aspects of the job will be:
- To safeguard young people through sound management strategies, collaborative working with external agencies and emergency services and compliance with local authority safeguarding procedures.
- To provide regular supervision for staff and assess training needs to required performance and development standards. To source and/or deliver training and coaching where appropriate.
- To ensure housing management policies and practices are effectively operated. This will include maximisation of income, licence management and implementation of fair and equitable referral procedures.
- To ensure appropriate staff cover is maintained in the home through production of rotas and, where necessary, recruitment of locum covers. To ensure that staffing needs are met within designated budgets.

Applicants should have
- At least three years’ experience of providing leaving care and/or housing support to single homeless or other vulnerable client groups, including young people.
- At least one year’s experience of effectively managing professional staff.
- A good understanding of Safeguarding and the legal framework relevant to the provision of residential services for young people aged 16+.
- Thorough knowledge of the issues that lead to young people becoming homeless, including those relating to alcohol/drug dependency and mental health and complex needs.
- Familiarity with the welfare benefits system and with the range of resources, statutory and non-statutory agencies and services relevant to supporting young people.
- Awareness of health and safety regulations and procedures to minimise risk.
- A high regard for young people with the ability to relate successfully to individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and to manage conflict situations.
- A vocational or management qualification at NVQ level 4 or equivalent would be desirable.

LTSB has ambitious plans to grow our income over the next few years. You will be joining our fantastic Fundraising team, which currently has three members of staff who work with trusts, foundations, institutions, companies and individuals to ensure the charity has the funds and key relationships necessary to achieve our aims.
This brand new role will support with developing and growing the number of trusts, foundations and institutions we are working with.
Income from trusts, foundations and statutory sources is an important income stream at LTSB, and you will work closely with the Fundraising Manager to develop and execute a strategy in order to grow and retain some of our existing funders, as well as bring new ones on board through effective research and prospecting.
This role would suit someone who has some experience of trust fundraising but is looking for the next step, therefore you must have experience of grant writing (five figure bids). You will have competent writing skills and experience of building and maintaining strong relationships and searching for new ones, whether online or in person. You will be enthusiastic, driven and creative with a can-do attitude. This role will have periods of high intensity. Being able to manage the highs and lows of trust and foundations fundraising is key.
As we all work remotely, you will also need to be a self-starter and be able to work independently. We would expect a thorough understanding and commitment to LTSB’s vision, mission, and work.

This is a newly developed Careers Advisor role is funded by the North East Combined Authority and forms a core part of our strategy to improve employment outcomes for women from Black and racially minoritised communities who are not currently in work or education. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified or part-qualified Careers Advisor to rebuild and lead an impactful careers service within the Angelou Centre.
Many of the women we support have English as an additional language and face multiple barriers to employment. They are survivors who are on a journey to rebuilding their independence and therefore may require additional training support with household budgeting, life skills or understanding the public transport system amongst other things. Your work will directly support women to take confident, supported steps into training, volunteering and work often for the first time in the UK.
This role combines direct client work with strategic development with support from the Senior Administrator. You’ll be responsible for managing individual development plans and setting SMART goals with our service users, building local opportunity networks, and helping to develop a robust data recording system to demonstrate outcomes and impact.
