What will you be doing?
You will join us at an exciting time as we pursue growth of fostering and residential services, as well as growth of our early help offer.
You will work across the Charity and the subsidiary fostering company (which we will amalgamate back into the parent Charity).
You will have a particular focus on helping the fostering agency drive growth, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver excellent care for children and support for foster parents. You will provide support and challenge to the management team.
You’ll contribute 2 to 6 hours a month. The Charity board meets every 8 weeks (shifting to quarterly after September) and the fostering board meets every 8 weeks.
You’ll join a Charity that’s brought £millions of investment into Tees Valley and that helps over 1000 local people a year. We’ve been runners up at the national Charity Governance Awards and ‘community’ winners at the Hartlepool Business Awards.

About Us
The Story Forge Project is a new, grassroots literacy project based in Grantham. We design imaginative, inclusive workshops for children and young people that build confidence, creativity and a lifelong love of words. From festive letter-writing to story zines and sensory map-making, we’re on a mission to make storytelling part of everyday life - for every child, not just the confident ones.

The Role
We’re looking for a volunteer with an interest in literacy, books, children’s creativity or arts fundraising to help us design and coordinate a simple fundraising calendar. You don’t need to be a professional fundraiser, just someone organised, curious, and up for helping a new idea take flight.
Key tasks include:

The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly organised and experienced volunteer Company Secretary to play a crucial role in the effective governance and compliance of our charity. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise to a cause you care about, working closely with our CEO, Chairpersons, and Board of Trustees to ensure we meet all statutory and regulatory requirements. The Company Secretary should also be available to provide a central source of guidance and advice within THP-UK on matters of charity ethics, company law and good governance.
Key Responsibilities
Board Meetings & Support
- Collaborate with the Chair and CEO to prepare agendas and forward plans for Board meetings.
- Circulate papers and documentation in advance of meetings.
- Attend all Board meetings (typically quarterly), ensuring meetings are properly constituted (e.g. quorum present, aligned with Articles of Association).
- Accurately minute proceedings, record decisions and actions, and circulate minutes promptly.
- Maintain records of attendance and track follow-up on agreed actions.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure timely filing of statutory returns with Companies House and the Charity Commission, including:
- Annual confirmation statements and annual returns.
- Updates to trustees, registered address, and governing documents.
- Submission of trustees' report and audited accounts (in collaboration with auditors).
- Keep an organised archive of governance documents, policies, minutes, and resolutions.
- Act as point of contact for formal correspondence from Companies House and the Charity Commission.
Corporate & Charity Governance
- Advise the Board on legal and regulatory requirements, charity ethics, and corporate governance best practices.
- Keep up to date with statutory requirements and best practice for good corporate and charity governance and inform the Board as appropriate.
- Maintain all statutory registers.
- Conduct reviews of policies for clarity, compliance, and role-specific responsibilities.
- Assist in reviewing and submitting governance-related policies for Board approval (e.g., safeguarding, conflict of interest).
- Maintain a policy review schedule and ensure timely updates.
Trustee Support & Onboarding
- Support the Chair in maintaining an up-to-date Board Handbook and policies.
- Assist with onboarding of new trustees by providing induction packs and key governance documents.

Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in company secretarial, governance, legal, or high-level administrative roles.
- In-depth knowledge of UK charity and company law, including Charity Commission and Companies House requirements.

Time Commitment & Location

We are looking for an Education trustee for Lancaster Independent School for Alternative Learning with senior educational experience.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for an Education Trustees who can contribute to the strategic direction of our small independent school based in Lancaster, Ofsted rated "Good"; attending termly Board meetings required by the independent school standards.

National Ugly Mugs (NUM) is seeking people with a passion for sex workers’ rights and
safety to join our Board of Trustees.
About NUM and the role of trustees
NUM is a UK-wide charity working with sex workers to end all forms of violence against them. We design and deliver safety tools, carry out research, and provide specialist support services for people in adult industries. We serve sex workers of all genders, ages, abilities, cultures, and modes of work. Our secure digital reporting and alerting system warns communities about dangerous individuals, while our experiential support staff and trained Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) offer one-to-one, trauma-informed advocacy. We ensure sex workers have the information and resources they need to make informed choices about their lives.
Our wellbeing drop-in service (first launched in Glasgow) has now expanded to Manchester and London, alongside the addition of our dedicated vocational support programme for people looking to transition, diversify, or leave sex work. Our racial justice programme reclaims narratives on sex work and race through in-depth conversations, research, and collaborations between racialised sex workers and anti-racist activists, focusing on experiences across five key areas of public life. We conduct research, deliver education packages for professionals, and advocate for policy change to improve safety, rights, and recognition for sex workers across the UK.
We place lived experience at the heart of all services and decision-making, ensuring our
work reflects the needs, priorities, and expertise of the communities we serve.
Trustees at NUM play a vital role in helping us fulfil our core mission of ending all forms of violence against sex workers. They support NUM as an organisation and the members of the NUM team by providing support, advice and guidance through our day-to-day operations and the overall strategic vision of the charity. Some of that takes place at quarterly trustee meetings, where the CEO reports on NUM’s work and brings decisions and choices to the board for discussion and advice, and some takes place between meetings when individual trustees have skills or experience that can support team members and have the time to take on a supportive or mentoring role. Our current trustees bring with them a wide range of
experience from sex worker organising and advocacy, media and public engagement,
campaigning and social justice, academia, finance, and other aspects of the third sector.
They also oversee legally required duties such as approving the annual report, reviewing
risks and finances, and ensuring the charity complies with the law and meets its charitable
objectives.
Trustee roles are voluntary positions. However, NUM will pay for any reasonable expenses incurred as part of the role.
Who we’re looking for
The most important thing is that you believe in NUM’s work and want to join us to help us
continue this. We need people willing to volunteer their time to shape our practice and our services, and guide the charity as we continue to meet the needs of sex workers across the UK.

Role description
Are you passionate about changing the way we treat animals? Do you want to help reduce environmental damage? Do you want to inspire people to enjoy healthy vegan food that both looks good and tastes great?
The Vegan Society aims to make veganism more accessible. We help people to adopt a vegan lifestyle by supporting individuals, policy- and decision-makers, caterers, manufacturers, healthcare professionals and the media.
Why do we need you?
Laura Chepner is our Education Officer, and she is looking for a volunteer to support her in her role. Laura has a background in education, with a degree in Primary Education which preceded a decade of teaching and a short stint in the role of SENco (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). Shortly after that, Laura theorised vegan-inclusive teaching, published An Educator’s Guide for Vegan-Inclusive Teaching and worked as the UK’s first vegan-inclusion education specialist until joining The Vegan Society.
At The Vegan Society, Laura supports vegan learners in education who have been discriminated against by acting as an intermediary between their families and the institution. Additionally, Laura supports educators by creating resources and delivering training sessions on what it means to be vegan-inclusive in their practice. Furthermore, Laura empowers parents/guardians to ask for vegan-inclusion by creating documents, with the help of The Education Network, that they can present and highlight their rights.
What does the role involve?
This role involves working alongside our Education Officer to create around 50 differentiated worksheets for teachers of key stage 1 (KS1), Year 2 to use. No lesson plans to be made – just worksheets that support the National Curriculum English programmes of study for KS1, Year 2 outcomes. Laura would delegate certain literacy areas such as ‘suffixes –ful and –less’. Once complete, we would meet online to look over and then Laura would delegate another area of literacy to be completed.
Below is an example of the type of worksheets that will be created.
‘Today I am learning to use regular plural noun suffixes – s or – es.’
These tasks are not exhaustive, and more assignments may arise as the project progresses.
What training and support is available?
The ideal candidate for this role will have a background in Primary Education and be comfortable working independently. However, we are always willing to invite volunteers along to staff training when possible and to deliver training on specific skills in-house, as identified throughout the volunteering period. This role is remote, so support from the Education Officer will be available through email and phone calls as required. Monthly reviews with the Volunteering and Engagement Officer will also be conducted to ensure the volunteer is happy in their role.
What skills would be useful in doing this role?
We are looking for a volunteer with:

What does my availability need to be?
We are looking for someone who is available for two months, starting as soon as possible. We are looking for eight hours of volunteer time per week, done across one or two working days, which are the same working days each week.

Who are we looking for?
At present we are working towards being fully operational, over the next year Living Reasons will be looking to expand its reach and part of that journey is to work on various platforms in new and creative ways, one of which will be Substack.
If you enjoy writing blogs or newsletters, are able to tell stories in an engaging way, this is the role for you.
This would include writing a weekly “point of view” piece that focuses on an area that Living Reasons engages in, whether this is research data reporting, lived experience storytelling or news highlight pieces.
Additionally to writing posts, you may also want to work with the social media coordinator to create video posts or even look at creating a podcast for the charity, the options are limitless as at Living Reasons, we encourage the entire team to bring ideas to the table and empower you to run with them, with the support of the organisation.

Living Reasons is being created to fix what we think is a challenging situation that is getting harder to achieve every week, month and year in the current economic, political, environmental and societal landscape. It is not easily defined but we hope the charity objects below will help put context to what we want to achieve, what we can say is that below are the issues we are trying to address, how we do this will change as quickly as society does, but the issues we want to tackle are these:
1) Outdated and damaging employment practices
2) Accessibility to services
3) Limited employment, training and education opportunities
4) Lack of support during times of crisis or need
5) Lack of equity and agency for many people in society
6) Institutional discrimination that is not challenged
7) Abuse of the legal system at all levels

At present we are working towards being fully operational, over the next year Living Reasons will be looking to expand its reach and part of that journey is to collect analyse and report on information gathered during our work and from our Lived Experience Board who will hold focus groups to supply information to ensure that the work that we carry out as an organisation remains relevant and changes as people’s needs do.
This information and the reports that are created on the back of it, will also be used to encourage and campaign for change in wider society.
The role of Research and Analysis Co-ordinator will be to collate the data and create analysis reports for the organisation to use as part of our ongoing projects and look at new areas of work that comes from this data.
You don’t need to have lots of experience in this area, just the attention to detail and understanding of how such data is collected and reported, we want to do things differently, therefore those core skills, as well as a passion for the charity purpose, is more important than anything else.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a Trustee who is passionate about arts and social
justice, who wants to make a difference and is able to compliment our
Board of Trustees, Artistic Director, and Executive Director as we work
together to develop the impact and profile of Cardboard Citizens. We
believe that the need for Cardboard Citizens is as urgent as it ever has
been with the current external environment and the challenges for our
communities with experience of homelessness and poverty.
Whilst we’d like to hear from applicants from a range of backgrounds and
experiences, we are particularly keen to hear from those with skills in any
of the following areas:

What we ask of you:
·To serve an initial term of 4 years, with the possibility of re-appointment

·To attend 4 x 2-hour Board Meetings a year, committee meetings as
required, as well as an annual Away Day.
·To attend events, performances, workshops and other engagements, to
gain a full experience of the breadth of Cardboard Citizens work.
·To sit on one of the Board’s Committees.
·To provide specialist advice and expertise as required and appropriate.
·To advocate and champion Cardboard Citizens’ work, values, ambition,
and strategic direction.
In total, Trustees usually commit the equivalent of 10 days per annum to
their role.

We are Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking. Our mission is to achieve a better walking environment and inspire people to walk more.
We are looking for trustees to join our Board to support steering the charity forward.
This is a pivotal time in our history: with a dynamic and experienced new Chief Executive, Catherine Woodhead; and a period of development, with a new strategy incoming that will take us towards our centenary in 2029.
We are a charity which can influence anyone’s daily life.
With our thousands of members and supporters we run campaigns for positive change and influence policies that improve our streets such as encouraging families to walk to school, 20mph speed limits and controlling pavement parking.
We manage innovative national projects, engaging schools, communities and workplaces to encourage more people to walk short journeys. Our year-round walk to school challenge captures the imagination of children in over 2000 schools.
We work with local authorities and businesses to improve streets and public spaces. Our reports, such as The Pedestrian Pound, make a substantial contribution to the active travel agenda.
Our charity trustees play a key part in strategy development and bringing our strategy to life. We would welcome applicants with:
-Senior finance experience across the charity, government or private sectors.
-Legal experience in Charity Law or legal expertise relevant to the third sector.
