Key Relationships

The postholder will work as part of a team, supporting, developing and managing existing relationships with key project stakeholders.  They will reach out to develop new relationships with individuals, local groups, schools and organisations to facilitate partnerships working, increase awareness of and support for the project, and to recruit volunteers. Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) are a national Christian charity working in partnership with local churches to bring struggling children hope and a future. Building on the huge success of TLG Early Intervention Coaching, TLG Therapeutic Support will be a new way for TLG, with partner churches, to provide support in school for the increasing number of pupils struggling to cope due to their emotional, relational, and mental health experiences. This programme addresses the underlying issues children are facing, whilst also providing the option of direct support to their parents/carers and the school staff team.

In this role we are looking for individuals with an accredited coaching qualification that thrive working with children and young people in a school context and are passionate about supporting pupils and their families struggling with emotional, relational, and mental health challenges. The ideal candidate will have an aptitude for creativity whether this is music and drama, sport and outdoor recreation or other fields of kinaesthetic development. The TLG Therapeutic Coach will be present each week in the school, providing specialist trauma aware care for these children, whilst supporting staff and parents/carers too, so we're looking for an individual who can build and foster strong relationships.

The role

As the breadth and volume of our fundraising activity has grown over the last couple of years, an opportunity has arisen for a detail orientated and enthusiastic individual to join our database team. This role will be line managed by the Database Manager, with a dotted line to the Senior Database Officer to ensure the smooth running of our income processing activity, making a significant impact for the charity, and enabling excellent supporter care.

The team

Our dynamic fundraising department are preparing for an ambitious multimillion-pound campaign in support of a ground-breaking cancer centre on the site of the Royal Free Hospital. We pride ourselves on being a supporter focused and agile function, working at the heart of the charity to deliver impact for patients and staff across our hospitals.

Responsible for attracting and retaining donors, and delivering an outstanding supporter experience, the fundraising department comprises two teams which work closely together to achieve our shared objectives:

- Our Public Fundraising team harnesses the support and energy of individuals and groups, helping them to give back in the way that works for them. This includes committed giving, in memory support, gifts in wills, and fundraising events and challenges. Our Philanthropy and Campaign teams builds relationships with individual philanthropists, trusts, foundations, and corporate organisations which give, or have potential to give, £10,000 to the charity each year. They lead major appeal activity for the charity, currently focused on our exciting cancer campaign which is due to launch in 2025.

- Our database team sit within Fundraising, with their work underpinning and supporting the entire department.

Warrington Voluntary Action have been invited to coordinate Warrington’s first Poverty Truth Commission (PTC). Poverty Truth Commissions are about bringing about change - changing organisations and communities behaviours and attitudes towards poverty and taking action to tackle it. The PTC brings together people who have direct lived experience of poverty with key decision makers to form a group of commissioners who meet and work together on the key issues guided by the Community Commissioners. 

The purpose of the Community Engagement Worker role is to coordinate and facilitate a Poverty Truth Commission where people and their stories are at the heart of truly understanding and addressing poverty, delivering a commission in a truly relational way, which prioritises the leadership of those who are more often marginalised or voiceless.

Key Responsibilities

• To reach and develop trusted relationships with people with lived experience of poverty, with the aim of recruiting Community Commissioners who are representative of our local community.
• Create effective conditions for learning and support the Community Commissioners to learn and share together easily, facilitating sessions that enable them to build solidarity with one another.
• Provide mentoring and guidance through one to one and group sessions, to build confidence enable the group to share their stories of poverty to a number of audiences in creative ways as shaped by the commissioners, recognising their unique and valuable contributions and managing expectations.
• Facilitate meetings and support the Community Commissioners as they prepare to share their stories at a launch event.
• To develop effective, trusted relationships with local community stakeholders to harness their support and resources.
• Co-ordinate a PTC launch event and a PTC closing event, capturing and documenting the events as appropriate.
• To recruit Civic and business commissioners, building capacity and skills to work alongside the Community Commissioners.
• To act as the main point of contact for the Community and Civic Commissioners, building trust, openness and effective relationships.
• To undertake administrative tasks associated with the commission including promotion and monitoring of the commission and its progress.
• Capture and provide information/ reports on progress of the PTC to be shared with the wider stakeholders.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be involved in leading and co-ordinating the delivery of Crohn’s & Colitis UK’s research strategy including our programme of grants, and our work to support increased patient and public involvement in research.  They will work with the Director of Services & Evidence and Head of Evidence & Research to support the charity’s involvement with external research bodies and contribute to the leadership, planning and delivery of cross-team projects, helping to influence and meet our strategic objectives.

About You

We are looking for someone who has proven experience of delivering successful research funding and patient and public involvement research activities.  The successful candidate must be adept at establishing and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders and comfortable working with operational performance metrics, and implementing strategies and objectives for the organisation.  Ideally your background will be in health care or working in a medical charity and you’ll be educated to degree level or equivalent.  Given this role will involve managing and providing leadership to the Research team, prior management experience would be an advantage. Whilst not essential, a knowledge of the needs of people affected by Crohn’s and Colitis would be beneficial also.

Our Location

We are based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, so we are easily accessible by road and rail. In this role, there is plenty of scope for working from home, although there will be times when you will need to travel to events/conferences. You will be required to attend two Directorate days each year and occasional face-to-face meetings with your team or our partner agencies. In addition, the charity meets four times annually at its office in Hatfield (or a location in London) for its’ ‘All Staff Together’ days, at which attendance is mandatory.

The role of Finance Manager

​The Finance Manager will oversee the finance operations and lead on the preparation of management accounts, budgets, funding requests and internal and external reporting. As the Event Manager, you will oversee the development and end-to-end delivery of our product portfolio. This includes planning, marketing, the online journey, stewardship, on-the-day delivery, and evaluation.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you bring experience of strategically developing and delivering mass participation events and activities to achieve growth ideally within a fundraising capacity.

With an excellent understanding of marketing techniques (especially digital) and knowledge of a broad range of innovative fundraising activities and principles, you have experience of managing and developing a diverse product portfolio. Using customer, market and financial data and insight you can make decisions to drive long term growth.

A strategic thinker with expertise managing commercial projects who can achieve objectives through analytical insights. You are agile and responsive to both internal and external factors with a knowledge of new and emerging technologies and trends in the events fundraising space. You also have the ability to interpret customer, market and financial data and insight to inform recommendations.

An excellent communicator and project manager, comfortable with juggling multiple, often conflicting priorities you'll work in matrix style across two key areas of the team.

Working arrangements

This is a 12-month fixed term contract. 
 
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

At BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on hybrid contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average.

The responsibilities of the Assistant Finance Business Partner will include:

• Producing management accounts for relevant budget holders and contributing to GPA’s client budget process
• Provide advice on financial treatment of project costs to ensure that all items are correctly assessed for capitalisation, and that the treatment of abortive costs and feasibility works are appropriately treated as RDEL, while being allocated to the correct projects
• Contributing to property reconciliations to ensure all expenditure has been fully recovered from tenants
• Attendance at monthly stakeholder meetings to support the management of projects, supply chain and client relationships
• Supporting any client discussions as required to ensure recovery of billed amounts, keeping accrued income minimal and controlled
• Building a network internally with other finance teams to ensure smooth transition of data and knowledge between interlinked processes, and contributing as part of the wider finance team
• Promote continuous improvement by developing and improving accounting processes and procedures relating to projects and other expenditure
• Preparing balance sheet reconciliations including accruals and prepayments
• Analysing financial performance to identify variances and ensuring transactions are accounted for correctly
• Take ownership of key financial processes, including the preparation and processing of journals, while supporting both internal and external audits.
• Play a proactive role in facilitating forecasting and reporting activities, and use your analytical skills to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the financial data to inform strategic decision-making

Key Skills & Experience 

• CCAB or equivalent part-qualified or finalist-level candidates required, full qualification desirable.
• Experience in facilities management or estates-related roles (e.g. property management, construction projects) is preferable, however candidates from other backgrounds will be considered.
• Strong month-end management accounting experience required; finance business partnering experience is advantageous.
• Confident communicator with proven stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ambitious and driven, ideally from a fast-paced or client-focused environment.
