Engagement Officer

Lancaster & District Homeless Action Service Limited, known as LDHAS, is a registered charity and they have been working with street homeless and vulnerably housed people for over 32 years. They provide essential needs support, advice and information, from their centre in Lancaster with additional support from visiting partner agencies like Citizens Advice, Changing Futures, SafeNet, Calico, Red Rose Recovery, the Hep C Trust and Inspire.

The Role

The post holder will provide an engagement service with neighbours, the local community, visiting professionals and the clients, volunteers and staff of LDHAS in line with its aims and objectives.

The postholder will have lived experiences which support the work of LDHAS. They will have up to date knowledge of key stakeholders, support networks and agencies. They will liaise and engage with a variety of homeless hub organisations as required.

The postholder will support LDHAS clients, motivating and enabling clients as they engage with LDHAS and advocating for them as appropriate. The postholder will create a psychologically safe environment for clients enabling the completion of dynamic assessments, share information about LDHAS services and triage clients enabling them to access the services offered by key stakeholders including those organisations supporting the LDHAS hub in order to support individual needs. They will support clients with clothing, shower and laundry facilities. 

The postholder will coordinate the engagement aspect of day to day running of the centre, including the attendance of clients and the management of donations and footfall in the building. They will ensure that health and safety protocols and procedures are maintained throughout the building during the hours of opening, alert to safeguarding and ensuring procedures followed.

They will ensure that good relations are maintained with the neighbours of LDHAS and with the local community. They will ensure that LDHAS clients in the immediate vicinity of the building are conducting themselves in an acceptable way.

About you:

As a Social Worker, you’ll bring a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in childcare social work and an understanding of child development and the impact on behaviour of interrupted development.

As a Senior Social Worker, you’ll bring a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience in childcare social work, and previous experience of completing adoption assessments (or similar), or family finding/supporting children in their adoptive families.

We are currently looking for a Boat Station Manager to join our team.

About the role

The manager is instrumental in facilitating and delivering life changing, positive on the water experiences for young people. As an expert practitioner, they will provide leadership, development and mentoring to their team of instructors. The post will require strong organisational skills.

The Manager is an employee of the Marine Society & Sea Cadets based at our Crosby Boat Station. The post holder is required to hold and maintain the following qualifications as a condition of employment: RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor and RYA Powerboat Instructor.

The primary purpose of the role is to manage a water-sports training facility in the Liverpool area for all Sea Cadet Units and other affiliates to the Boat Station.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day to day running of the Boat Station.
• Ensure that all visiting groups and their staff are fully briefed on the Boat Station’s policies and procedures and that there is adequate supervision of Cadets and young people at the facility, so as to discharge their duty of care for them.
• Oversee the Chief Instructor and all other sessional Instructors using the Boat Station.
• Manage the Boat Station’s accounts in liaison with the Regional Finance Manager including day to day fees.
• Ensure that best practise in accordance with the NGB guidelines and requirements following our Inshore Boating Operating Standard.

You will lead all aspects of charity financial and resource management for two separate but closely connected charities, the Army Cadet Charitable Trust UK (ACCT UK) and the Combined Cadet Force Association (CCFA), which are supported by a single head office team. We are looking for someone to bring enthusiasm, personal credibility, discretion and sensitivity. You will be ultimately responsible for Finance and Resource Management within the charities.
You will work directly with the trustees of both charities and the wider Senior Leadership Team (SLT) which comprises of the Director of Development, the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) (Director of HR and Programmes), and the Chief Executive. You will have primary responsibility for ensuring that the charities meet their statutory obligations, that financial functions are well ordered and support the work of the charities.
Managing and leading a small and diverse team through high pressure periods including month end, year-end and annual budgeting, you require high emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills. You will work closely with staff at all levels, often having to mentor the charities’ managers to help them plan and manage their own budgets.
Your financial responsibilities are substantial as you will have overall control and responsibility for all financial matters. You will be thinking both strategically and seeing the big picture, whilst also analysing figures in detail to ensure that the financial management of both charities are sound. The Research Officer role enjoys a varied workload and brings the opportunity to work with autonomy and develop new skills within a friendly and dynamic team. You will work on a broad range of projects, including being involved with our grant management processes, working closely with the Research Officer and the Acting Head of Research. The post-holder will also work closely with other departments across the charity, including producing engaging research communications content for print, online and social media, and will also have the opportunity to interact with senior researchers, clinicians and people affected by sarcoma.

This is an ideal role for someone with a scientific background and an active interest in research management, and it offers the opportunity to make a real impact for people affected by sarcoma and their families.

Duties and Key Responsibilites 

Sarcoma UK’s research programme

• To support Sarcoma UK’s grant application processes under guidance from the Acting Head of Research. This will include calls for proposals, identifying expert peer reviewers, administering a high-quality peer and lay review process, communication with applicants and potential applicants, administration of grant awards and supporting patient involvement.
• To provide support to the Grant Review Panel and Research Strategy Committee, including organising meetings and preparing minutes.
• To manage Sarcoma UK’s portfolio of active research grants, under guidance from the Acting Head of Research. This will include administration of newly awarded grants, monitoring progress of current grants, oversight of grant finances and reporting on final outputs.
• To support opportunities for patient involvement within the research programme, including managing a network of lay reviewers and facilitating new opportunities, with support from the Patient Involvement Coordinator.
• To support new developments in Sarcoma UK’s research programme, including organising and attending events, collaborative funding calls and initiatives to support early career researchers. 

Research Impact and Communications

• To monitor and gather outputs and long-term impact of research grants funded by Sarcoma UK and support in ensuring these are shared with internal and external audiences.
• To plan and produce engaging and reactive and proactive communications about sarcoma research, including website, social media, written and video content, working with the Acting Head of Research and Communications Team to ensure our research activities and outcomes are shared with the sarcoma community and wider public.
• To proactively engage with grant holders to gather impactful insights and to support engaging communication about sarcoma research.
• To regularly review and update Sarcoma UK’s website with progress updates on research grants and promote funding opportunities.
• To support work undertaken by the Fundraising Team where required, such as lab tours and supplying information about funded grants for donor reports.

• Type of contract: Permanent contract 

• Location: ENN’s office in Kidlington, Oxfordshire. ENN operates a hybrid model with most of our Operations Team working Mondays and Fridays from home and Tues/Weds/Thurs in the office. 

ENN will consider requests for further flexible working arrangements. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis, balancing ENN’s needs with the successful candidate’s other commitments. 

• Holidays: 25 days plus UK Public Holidays, increasing by one day per annum after two complete years of service to a maximum of 27 days per annum. ENN also provides additional paid office closure days between Christmas and New Year. Pro-rata for part-time staff. 

• Pension: Auto-Enrolment to ENN scheme with a generous Employer contribution of 5% 

• Salary: circa £45,000 per annum, full-time equivalent, dependent on experience

Purpose of the Role 

The HR Manager plays a key leadership role, working on, and closely with, the management team to ensure effective HR support across the organisation. This role combines strategic HR advice with hands-on operational delivery, helping to shape a positive working culture and ensure compliance with employment law and best practice. 

Key Responsibilities 

Strategic HR Support 

• Advise the management team on HR strategy, policies and people matters 

• Help shape and promote a positive organisational culture and embed the organisation’s values 

• Identify and implement improvements to policies, structures, and staff processes 

• Produce quarterly HR reports and plan for the Board and Governance & People sub-committee meetings 

Compliance & Policy 

• Ensure HR policies and practices comply with UK and international employment law, as well as donor requirements 

• Keep policies up to date in collaboration with external HR support 

• Develop, monitor and maintain HR metrics and Management Information, preparing and presenting quarterly reports to Senior Management and Trustees. 

• Oversee mandatory training completion and procurement of training providers (e.g. safeguarding, data protection) 

• Act as the organisation’s Designated Safeguarding Officer and Data Protection Officer (training can be provided) 

People Practices & Support 

• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and induction processes for staff and consultants 

• Provide guidance to line managers on employee relations matters, performance management, and staff training and development 

• Oversee monthly payroll and pension processes

• Keep the organisation’s reward policy under review to help ensure fair and competitive compensation packages 

• Oversee that accurate and confidential HR records are maintained 

• Lead on staff engagement activities, surveys, and follow-up actions 

Learning & Development 

• Oversee professional development across the team through internal and external training 

• Work with managers to identify development needs and embed learning into performance appraisals 

Line Management & Coordination 

• Line manage the HR Advisor and Office Manager 

• Work with third-party providers such as benefit providers and Employers of Record for overseas staff to sustain cost-effective solutions whilst meeting compliance requirements 

Other Responsibilities 

• Due to relatively small size of organisation some critical roles/functions are shared between Management Team members. The HRM is the designated Safeguarding Officer and Data Protection Officer for which training can be given if required. The Management Team members rotate some other responsibilities

• Carry out other HR-related tasks as required by the management team 

Person Specification 

Essential 

• CIPD Level 5 or equivalent experience 

• Strong HR generalist knowledge and understanding of UK employment law 

• Experience advising senior leaders and managing employee relations issues 

• Proven experience of change management and nurturing a positive culture 

• Line management experience and ability to support a small, diverse team 

• Strong communication, organisational and IT skills 

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively 

• Commitment to the values and mission of the charity 

Desirable 

• HR experience in the charity or non-profit sector 

• Experience supporting international recruitment or working with Employer of Record services 

• Knowledge of EDI policy development

We are currently looking for a Head of Logistics and Trading to join our team responsible for the management and duties arising from the MSSC stores team and Sea Cadets Shop orders, and other departmental functions.

We are looking for a capable, ambitious person, able to accept increasing responsibilities, as the department transitions significant staff/role changes in the coming months.

Responsibilities

• To manage the operations of the MSSC Logistics & Trading department, which includes motor transport management for the MSSC.
• To be line manager to the Logistics & Trading Team.
• Be Building Manager responsible for the safety and security of all machinery, staff and operations within Sea Cadet Stores.
• Be responsible for budgetary control and finances associated with the department.
• To provide warehouse management and administrative oversite to operations for receipt and dispatch of online shop orders, MoD and MSSC stores held on loan throughout the MSSC.
• Liaise with SCC units, contractors, suppliers and MoD, to effectively deliver an efficient, effective department.
• Be responsible for maintain appropriate levels of MoD and Sea Cadets Shop stock.
• Liaise with Royal Navy regarding use of RN systems for purchasing uniforms and other RN provided equipment.
• Manage warehouse receipt and dispatch, ensuring that all orders are dispatched within specified timelines.
• Manage the operations of the Westminster Stores and Sea Cadets Shop online systems, ensuring that all records are maintained and up to date and accurate.
• Be prepared to assist with the manual aspects of warehouse activities as required.
• Liaise with Royal Navy and Captain of Sea Cadets regarding changing uniform requirements.
• Liaise with fundraising team to develop a strategy for increasing sales in the SCC shop.
