We are seeking a Science and Policy Project Manager who will provide project management support across the science and policy departments for the core programmes and for cross cutting activities such as conferences and communications. You will report to the Director of Research, Policy and Innovation with the delivery of the science and policy strategies. You will also work closely with the Assistant Director of Research and Policy and there will also be interaction and communication with the Heads of Research Funding, Research Interpretation and Policy and Public Affairs as well as other colleagues in the network countries.
You will be educated to MSc level in Public Health, Nutrition, Epidemiology or closely related field and have experience working in a research/public health setting and developing scientific/policy reports, summaries and presentations. You will have proven scientific project management skills with experience in monitoring progress, performance reporting and delivering projects on time and budget. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment, and with stakeholders at all levels.

In this role, you will support the development and implementation of Picker's policy influencing strategy to make person centred health and social care a reality for everyone. In this role, you will:

About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Policy Manager to join our team. This position is based in the Policy and Public Affairs (PPA) team and reports to the Director of PPA. About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Sustrans as part of the Policy and Public Affairs team, during an election year, delivering a number of vital pieces of research designed to improve walking, wheeling and cycling and transport more broadly.
As the Policy Officer, you will lead on delivering two key policy projects for Sustrans with support from our Head of Policy and Senior Policy Officer. You will help develop evidence, policy and practice working closely with colleagues to maximise long-term opportunities to help increase transport choice for people.
We offer true hybrid working, a flexible mix of working from home and occasional travel to a nearby office hub with an expectation of a monthly team meeting in Bristol and occasional travel for project related activity.
This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans.

You should have proven experience of conducting qualitative and quantitative research across a variety of issues and in writing for policy and public audiences.

Endometriosis impacts the physical and mental health of 10% of women and those assigned female at birth, from puberty to menopause - although the impact can be felt for life. Yet it’s a disease most people have never heard of, do not understand and that has no cure. It costs the UK economy around £8.2 billion every year in healthcare costs, loss of work and treatments and yet it isn’t recognised by most employers. As the UK’s leading charity for all those affected by endometriosis, we’re determined to change this and ensure that everyone gets prompt diagnosis and the best treatment and support.
We’ve big ambitions in our strategy, focused on better supporting those with endometriosis, driving down diagnosis times, campaigning for improved treatments and access to services, raising awareness, and leveraging more money into research. This will be a busy, varied and important role working closely with the Head of Campaigns and Communications to identify opportunities to influence external policy to better support and represent the needs of those with endometriosis. Are you a persuasive advocate, well versed in humanitarian policy with a passion to change government policy to better serve the needs of people affected by humanitarian crises? Do you want to play your part in shifting humanitarian aid to be increasingly delivered by national and local actors, particularly the church?
At Tearfund, we know that in disasters and crises, the local church plays a critical role. Present before, during and after an emergency, churches can and do have a significant impact on disaster risk reduction and resilience building.
The purpose of this role is to lead our global advocacy strategy so that governments and institutional donors adopt locally-led and faith based approaches to humanitarian responses through research, lobbying, coalition working, media and campaigning and by working closely with country programmes to support their national advocacy.
Key areas of focus for the postholder would be:
- Strengthening our evidence base and developing policy positions
- Developing influencing relationships with policy-makers and representing Tearfund externally
- Building a network of allies and contributing to a wider coalition
- Collaborating closely internally with colleagues who are working to design, develop and implement humanitarian programmes
- Providing humanitarian policy support and advice internally
Do you have the following experience?
- Research, policy influence and/or campaigning
- Evidence of having scoped and developed a humanitarian advocacy strategy.
- Track record of working on humanitarian policy issues, particularly conflict resolution, peace building and work in fragile states.
- Experience of working in multi-agency consortia.
- Experience of writing reports and policy briefings

This is a full time permanent role at 35 hours per week. Flexible working patterns can be considered.
