Job description

ABOUT US

Our purpose is to build a movement for responsible leadership. We were set up in response to growing concern about the deficit of public trust in significant institutions. We believe that if we can help create more sustainable, open and fair organisations, we will all win. That is our challenge.

We work closely with a group of 26 major organisations from across the private, public and social sectors (ranging from the Civil Service, Met Police and British Army to Tesco, easyJet, Barclays, BCG and Save the Children). Our Fellowship programme brings together a diverse group of exceptional senior leaders from these organisations to explore the principles and practices of responsible leadership, and the challenges facing business and society.

We were certified as a B-Corporation in 2018 which ensures we practice what we preach and our team come from a range of different backgrounds, from a strategy consulting firm and innovation agency to a major bank and No 10 Downing Street.

THE ROLE

In our next phase of growth, we have a lot of activity planned to significantly boost our impact, launching new programmes to reach more senior leaders in the organisations in which we work. We recently launched an Exchange Programme, where senior leaders are paired with other leaders from a totally different sector. They spend two days being observed by their partner before reciprocating, offering unique windows into different worlds and styles of leadership. In mid-April we launch our community dinners programme, where we invite people doing amazing things in their local communities across London to host a dinner with small number of senior leaders from one of our partner organisations. Leaders will learn about their host and the work they’re doing on societal issues, often with limited access to resources.

We’re looking for a bright new team member to sit at the heart of our organisation and drive positive impact by creating efficient systems and delivering exceptional administrative support. The role will work across teams and programmes, meaning you’ll be learning fast in an entrepreneurial environment and collaborating with a number ofthe team. Your responsibilities will include, but won’t be limited to:

Programme support

  • Supporting our range of exchange programmes – working alongside our Exchange Programme Manager, help coordinate venue bookings and catering arrangements, drive proactive written and verbal communication with participants, prepare supporting documentation
  • Supporting the successful launch of our community dinners programme – help research, recruit and onboard new dinner hosts, coordinate logistics and handle communications between participants and hosts, map programme dates and timetables, create information packs and supporting paperwork, ensure clear communication with all involved. Our ambition is for this programme to grow and for you have the opportunity tobe part of creating it
  • Supporting our Fellowship programme – your support may involve event organisation, editing biographies, short essays and reports, proofing communication, coordinating the printing of collateral, follow up emails
  • Handling programme registrations, last minute cancellations, queries and questions
  • Reviewing and using feedback to drive improvements in our programmes

General administrative support

  • Supporting with the preparation and delivery of workshops and events as required, this may include setting up rooms, printing handouts, coordinating catering and venue bookings, greeting participants
  • Taking a lead on generally improving the efficiency of our processes
  • Supporting the team with any ad hoc projects

We don’t expect the person we hire to have ALL the following but hopefully this gives you a sense of what would enable you to thrive in this role and in our team:

APPLY IF…

  • You would like a varied role that covers a number of aspects of working within a growing, entrepreneurial business, where you roll up your sleeves and get stuck in
  • You are attentive to detail and highly organised, confident in your ability to co-ordinate multiple tasks, manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines
  • You are a quick learner, proactive and like to be hands-on and get things done
  • You can think and plan aheadand like to get stuck into a range of different jobs
  • You have strong written skills and are happy to pick up the phone, building relationships with people quickly
  • You are adaptable and able to manage competing priorities. Our priorities regularly change and so you must be comfortable with being flexible to respond to that, whilst not losing focus on your longer-term projects
  • You would love to learn about running a successful social enterprise with big ambitions to have a meaningful impact on the world, and are excited by the prospect of joining our journey
  • You are interested in how people learn, both in terms of the work we do, and supporting the training and development of our internal team
  • You are comfortable working to tight deadlines, and you thrive under pressure

YOU’LL LOVE IT HERE IF YOU…

Are passionate about being efficient, resourceful, creative and a great problem solver

  • Have a strong collaborative work ethic, are optimistic, bring warmth and good humour to work, and positive intent to every situation
  • Are fascinated by different organisations and sectors, and would enjoy working with some of the UK’s most influential institutions
  • Have a curious mind and are always open to the insights and perspectives of others
  • Love the idea of working for an organisation where people share your values and are fully focused on making a meaningful impact on the world
  • Would enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, are happy to work without a big support structure around you, and would like to grow with a small but ambitious organisation as it develops over time

BENEFITS

  • Working for an organisation where we take our values and purpose seriously, and work hard to practice what we ‘preach’
  • An intense but fun working environment, where everyone is enthusiastic about their job (as well as things outside it)
  • Private health insurance with Vitality (which also provides discounted gym membership, after passing probation)
  • Pension allowance (5% matched contribution)
  • A book allowance to build the Forward Institute library
  • Generous opportunities for Training & Development
  • Generous holiday allowance – and a sensible approach to flexible working

It is envisaged that this will be a full-time role, but it would be possible to structure it as 4 days a week for the right candidate.
