VERTIC is looking to appoint a Head of Finance. The role involves managing the full range of the organisation’s finances and administrative functions. This includes budgeting and forecasting at the project, programme and central level as well as running the day-to-day financial and other organisational operations. The role will also involve maintaining and developing robust and user-friendly, financial and operational systems to underpin our work.  This is a great opportunity to work with an established and growing NGO with activities reaching around the world and to help maintain and strengthen its finance, administrative and operational functions. 

The role requires having significant experience in charity and not for profit financial management, as well as in overseeing the life-cycle of grants and other contracts from governments, organisations and charitable foundations internationally. You should have substantial experience in accounting and resource management software, audit processes and HR matters. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who can work with and present to colleagues across the organisation and understand the needs of their programmes and projects. The organisation is dynamic and has been growing in terms of the size and number of grants it has internationally. The organisation is relatively small in terms of staff numbers. The successful candidate should therefore be prepared to be adaptable and flexible and be able to move from strategic activities to sleeves up work with ease.

VERTIC (the Verification Research, Training and Information Centre) is an independent, non-profit making charitable organisation. Established in 1986, VERTIC supports the development, implementation and verification of international agreements to improve international peace, security, environment and development. Our activities cover international treaties and mechanisms preventing nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, measures promoting stabilisation between conventional forces, challenges and opportunities from new technologies, International Health Regulations and sustainable development. To support progress in these areas, VERTIC provides innovative research, capacity-building, and engagement with governmental, regulatory, diplomatic, scientific and non-governmental communities around the world. Our outputs include technical advice and planning materials, publications, presentations, information tools, databases, as well as events, workshops, training and exercises. We run projects solely and in partnerships with other organisations.

We carry out our activities across Africa, Asia, Europe and North and South America, and the Pacific. Our staff is comprised of international legal experts, scientists and policy analysts from a range of nationalities and disciplines. VERTIC has an office in London and staff and consultants based in other countries. The organisation’s funding comes from governments, regional and international organisations such as the EU and United Nations and charitable foundations. Our role ranges from lead implementer coordinating other partners, to sub-contractor. VERTIC is governed by a Board of Trustees and regulated by the Charity Commission for England and Wales. 

Functions and responsibilities

Organisation level

· Prepare annual, quarterly and monthly budgets and projections at the organisational and programme level along with management accounts and cash flow reports.

· Analyse forward cash and fundraising projections and needs.

· Brief and work with Executive Director on financial, HR and administrative matters including financial needs, staffing, projections, scenarios and planning, and risk monitoring.

· Prepare and present financial reports to Board of Trustees meetings.

· Ensure the Charity meets its statutory obligations to HMRC and Charity Commission and other relevant bodies as necessary, as well as insurance obligations.

· Keep the organisation compliant and up to date on law and best practices related to charity finance, governance, risk monitoring, HR and operations in UK and internationally.

· Prepare and submit annual statutory financial statements, prepare and facilitate the audit process.

· Help maintain, update and communicate VERTIC financial policies, procedures and controls.

· Maintain, develop and, where necessary, overhaul the organisation’s financial, HR and operational IT and physical infrastructure and records to ensure they are standardized and consistent, user-friendly, up to date, appropriately accessible and resilient.

· Ensure financial and related systems facilitate organisational stability, hand-over, and efficient knowledge-transfer including for financial management processes, software tools and records.

· Review and implement methodologies for calculating organisational financial needs and internal allocation approaches for full cost recovery, day charge out rates, overheads and reserves.

· Monitor restricted and unrestricted fund allocation

· Manage day-to-day finances, scheduling, tracking and fulfilling invoices and payments to suppliers, service providers in the UK and abroad.

· Manage bookkeeping activities, including transaction recording in the organisation’s books and reconciliation.  

· Manage bank and financial service provider accounts in various currencies, oversee fund transfers, process credit cards and charge card accounts.

· Address foreign exchange rates currency implications for the organisation. 

· For UK and international/non-UK staff: monitor staff time and leave records; ensure payroll and related employment payments are fulfilled and records kept; manage HR matters related to employment contracts, visas, salaries, time, leave, social security, pensions, benefits and expenses; assist with onboarding, offboarding, handovers.

· Support organisational level cyber security practices related to finance and operations.

· Review project contracts from funders, address due diligence and compliance matters, and keep VERTIC’s template contracts for consultants and organisations in line with best practice.

· Ensure new grants are recorded across VERTIC’s system including identifying funder rules and internal responsibilities.

· Oversee office management

Programme and project level

· Support Programme Directors with financial monitoring and planning for time allocation needs across staff and consultants, project delivery capacity, billing, fundraising, and expenditure - over monthly, quarterly and annual timelines.

· Oversee financial management of grants and other types of contract from governments from multiple regions, international organisations and charitable foundations.

· Schedule, prepare, submit and track financial reports to funders and invoices to funders, including submitting invoices on government finance systems.

· Monitor payment of invoices.

· Prepare for and host project-level audits.

· Support staff with project and activity level finances and expenditure monitoring.

· Support Programmes in fundraising by assisting with project budgets (covering staffing, travel to meetings, workshop costs, research tools, sub-contractors in the UK and overseas).

· Ensure adherence to government and charitable foundation funder rules and requirements on finance-related matters (procurement, due diligence, exchange rate methodologies, transactions, anti-bribery, anti-corruption, sanctions, management quality assurance, ethics)

· Assist with the preparation and review of contracts for sub-contractors and consultants

· Oversee/support staff with travel, event and other expenditure.

Requirements

· Significant level of experience in finance, operations and administration including in a senior/leadership role with responsibility for a department or small to medium organisation.  

· Understanding of charity accounting requirements.

· Experience in managing charity / not for profit finances including management accounts, budgets, monitoring and planning, day-to-day operations on banking, income and payments.

· Experience in using common accounting and management software, including QuickBooks, knowledge of ERPs is desirable.

· Familiarity with HR and project management software and service provider web portals.

· Experience in contract management from government and charitable foundation funders in the UK and overseas.

· Experience with financial requirements in fundraising from governments and foundations.

· Experience in HR in the UK and internationally.

· Experience with organisational practices such as strong cyber security and compliance.

· Excellent communication skills, including to non-finance staff and partners.

· Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, proactiveness, ability to work to tight deadlines.

· Ability to oversee and strengthen overall financial system as needed.

· Comfortable in hybrid and remote working environments.

· Familiarity with working with stakeholders from a variety of different cultures and regions.

· Ability to travel on occasion.

· Education and qualifications: at least a Bachelors level degree; Accountancy Qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA or CIMA)

The organisation currently operates a hybrid working policy for staff based in and around London. At present, this role requires attendance in person on a number of days to be agreed and requires availability during office hours.  These factors can be further determined based on whether the agreement is for a full or part time position. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our Education Team. This role will require the successful candidate to support an integrated and holistic approach to education, health and care, work under the direct supervision of an allocated teacher / senior  specialist teaching assistant, support access to learning and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils in learning opportunities and to assist the teacher in providing relevant support for pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and complex therapeutic, medical and health needs.

Role Requirements

STL1 – Provide support for Learning Activities set by Classteacher & Senior Specialist Teaching Assistant

• To support learning activities for individual, groups or whole classes of pupils, leading activities under the direction of the teacher or Senior Teaching Assistant supporting the teacher in their delivery of lessons.
• To demonstrate our School Ethos and Pupil Charter throughout the School day.
• Holistically integrate education, health and care needs.
• Evaluate and record procedures for learning activities.
• To know individual learning targets for each pupil in the group(s) and take specific action to enable individual pupil goals be achieved.
• To attend to the general care, maintenance and storage of classroom equipment.

STL 2 – Support Children’s Development

• Observe pupils, sharing observational findings, contribute to the implementation of activities to support development.
• Actively contribute towards record-keeping particularly in respect of pupil learning, therapeutic interventions, behaviour management, child protection and any other specific programme set up for individual pupils by the teacher / Senior Specialist Teaching Assistant / Therapist.

STL 3 – Help to keep Children Safe

• Undertake annual safeguarding training.
• Adhere to the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures and policies. Recording incidents pertaining to pupil safety, including for illness, accidents and incidents, accepting that Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and that ‘it could happen here’.
• Read relevant documentation / mandatory reads in relation to Keeping Children Safe In Education.
• Report any signs and indicators of possible abuse, being sensitive to the child/young person and circumstances, Identifying, report and record changes in behaviour and physical signs.

The Welfare Adviser will provide high quality specialist welfare benefits and housing advice, information and guidance to our service users, referring them internally and externally for additional advocacy and support as required, following organisational policies and procedures, and ensuring fulfilment of regulatory compliance with our Advice Quality Standard (AQS) accreditation, meeting the standards of quality in the delivery of advice services as required. Institutional and Corporate Fundraiser, RISE

July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025

BACKGROUND

RISE (Reimagining Industry to Support Equality) is a new collaboration focused on accelerating and expanding gender equality and women’s empowerment across global supply chains, through the delivery of workplace interventions and greater cross-sector collaboration. Our mission is to empower women workers, embed gender equality in business practice and catalyze systems change with an initial focus on the apparel, footwear, and home textile sectors. RISE is a membership organization that works with the world’s largest apparel and footwear brands as well as suppliers as members. Founded by BSR, CARE, ILO-IFC Better Work, and Gap In, RISE is hosted by BSR with a longer-term intention of becoming an independent not-for-profit entity.

RISE is now seeking the support of a fundraising contractor to help us achieve our new fundraising strategy and plans for significant expansion of our work. RISE has a mixed funding model and receives funding from private sector, philanthropic foundations, corporate foundations, bilateral agencies and could receive funding from multilateral agencies. This role will support RISE on grant fundraising.

We are looking for a self-starter with strong grant fundraising experience and network who is equally happy partnering with the team on new project ideas, writing proposals, expanding prospects and presenting to donors. We expect you to share our commitment to seeking a fairer future for women working in global supply chains and wants to join us to help scale our work through year-on-year income growth.

Time commitment: On average of 2-3 days/week with some periods being more intense than others.

Location: The Contractor can be remote, preferably located in the US or Europe. The person will report to the Executive Director, based in London.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Proposal and Concept Development

• Partner with subject matter experts at RISE to brainstorm and develop impactful new project ideas and turn these into concept notes or fundraising campaigns.
• Lead on grant proposal development for priority concepts. This involves drafting a compelling project narrative that translates our work for a donor audience, as well as program activities and outcomes, and a logical framework or theory of change.
• Lead on development of case for support, capability statements and pitch materials.
• Lead on complex, multi-year budget development for proposals in compliance with donor requirements and in line with RISE and BSR operational, financial and compliance guidelines for grant funding.
• Work with RISE Executive Director and wider RISE team on developing a healthy grant pipeline.

Donor Engagement

• Build on RISE’s existing donor networks and relationships to lead donor engagement and secure new funding in support of RISE’s priority action areas. This will involve:
  • Broadening RISE’s base of donors by identifying priority donor targets and seeking ways to build new donor relationships, with particular focus around philanthropic foundations, corporate foundations and bilateral agencies.
  • Maintaining regular communications with relevant donors and seeking ways to involve them in RISE’s work.
  • Partner with RISE Associate Director for Business Partnerships on development and outreach to RISE members on grant funding opportunities, in particular collaborative or joint opportunities.
  • Developing and implementing outreach plans for priority concepts.
  • Lead on or partner with RISE subject matter experts and leadership on donor presentations and pitch-meetings.
  • Keeping RISE team up to date with donor intelligence.
  • Represent RISE, as agreed, at relevant conferences or events where RISE priority donors are present.

Fundraising planning

• Work with Executive Director to develop annual workplans for fundraising/business development/partnership building.
• Input into fundraising strategy and strategic reviews – including priority areas of focus, strategies for increasing grant funding, and ways to enhance internal collaboration with content experts.

The Scope of Work is not an exhaustive list of duties but is intended to reflect a range of duties the consultant will perform. The Fundraising Contractor agree priorities with RISE Executive Director. The Scope of Work will be reviewed regularly and may be changed in the light of experience and in consultation with the Contractor.

EXPERIENCE

• At least 10 years of relevant professional experience with developing and winning grants including writing concepts, high quality grant proposals.
• Demonstrated expertise with conveying a theory of change and developing logframes, budgets, and work plans for complex, multi-year and global projects in collaboration with program team.
• Good understanding of gender equality, women’s economic empowerment and the private sector’s role in achieving the SDGs.  
• Knowledge of the international donor landscape and trends, with existing networks and demonstrable success in securing grant funding from a diverse group of donors including private and corporate foundations and governments.
• Ability to drive strategic work and engage colleagues around collective action/implementation.
• Demonstrated fluency in English, including advanced writing and editing, with the ability to communicate ideas effectively and concisely.

Role Purpose

The main purpose of the programmes team is to grow, develop and deliver all aspects of the day-to-day relationship management of:

· Schools and colleges running the Career Ready programme

Each Regional Manager is responsible for a local patch which currently typically consists of 5-6 schools or colleges, up to 100 students and 4-5 operational relationships with our corporate partners. Regional Managers will also be responsible for building and maintaining a local network of employer supporters and seeking opportunities for new employer support ..

There will be opportunities to be creative, as well as being autonomous in how you run and develop the programme with the Career Ready schools and colleges in your area.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities

Centre Management and Student Support

· You will work 1:1 with our community of school/college coordinators in your region to support them in delivering the programme. This will require regular meetings and communication, to support coordinators with the planning and managing of masterclasses, workplace visits and other Career Ready events for students and volunteers

· Regularly communicate and report to the Head of Programmes  

· Execute our strategy across the region

· Support schools and colleges in programme onboarding (students and mentors) and delivery of paid internships

· From time to time there may be a need to deliver sessions to skills and careers leads and to groups of young people within the school and college setting

· Recruit new schools and colleges to the network from the region in accordance with priority target areas. Manage their induction, training, activities prior to launch and implementation of the Career Ready programme

· Assist schools and colleges on our programmes to plan, manage and run events (i.e. icebreakers, launches, or student promotion sessions) and be prepared to present at such events.

Partnership Management, Stakeholder Engagement & Business Development

· Day-to-day operational account management for employer supporters, ensuring they have excellent experiences.

· Full partnership and operational account management for lower-level funders in your region.

· Promote the contribution of Career Ready and awareness of Career Ready to potential supporters and assist in engaging their commitment to give both practical and financial support

· Engaging new corporate, third and public sector organisations to directly support the programme delivery, working with the Head of Programmes to ensure your Regional Action Board supports you (develop a great relationship with them, set and agree targets and meet with Chair regularly).

· Develop and deliver the overall employer engagement strategy for the area ensuring that the number of mentors (one for each student participating) is matched with the paid internship commitment and that employer volunteers are in place for masterclass delivery and workplace visits.

o Management of relationships with employer supporters through regular 'keeping in touch'.

o Directly pursuing a prioritised list of prospect funders in your region in line with our organisational strategy. This work will be supported by Partnership Managers and Head of Programmes  

o Using our SME Internship Investment Fund, seek small and medium sized businesses to provide a mentor and host an intern, seeking as much match funding as possible (e.g., we pay for 1 internship and you pay for 1; 50% of internship funded_

o Support engagement, experience and deliver on the programme commitments to corporate partners in your area.

o Support the Head of Programmes and Partnership Manager with programme reporting requirements specific to corporate partners, trusts and foundations

General

· Promote a commitment to high standards of service, and to equality of opportunity through leadership and good practice.

· With the Chief Executive, Director of Programmes and Operations, and Heads of Programmes , monitor the state of Career Ready in the region and seek ways to promote its achievements and improve the service given by the central staff team.

This role is responsible for running the office of the Co-CEOs, internal communication and engagement activities across ActionAid UK.  The role will oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Co-CEO office enabling the Co-CEOs to effectively manage their workload and focus on strategic responsibilities in their dual roles as Co-CEOs and Directors. 

The post holder will lead on key Co-CEOs projects and deliverables in collaboration with relevant subject matter experts across the organisation. Develop the organisation’s internal communications and engagement strategy, in line with the overall People & Culture Strategy, policies and best practice. Lead and implement a programme of internal communications and engagement initiatives that ensures AAUK staff feel connected to and engaged with the mission and objectives of the organisation, and boosts staff engagement levels. Responsible for ensuring all comms and engagement activities are promoting our feminist principles, anti-racist and decol agenda and contributing to the overall staff experience and employee proposition as an employer of choice.

Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be asked to participate in criminal records checks at the point of offer.

Role Overview: 

As the People Business Partner, you’ll report to the Director of People, Finance, and Governance. You will lead on setting up and delivering a value-added people centric business partnering service.
