JOB SUMMARY:
The Programme Manager is a key role in the Rio Ferdinand Foundation’s isle of Ireland team. This post is responsible for managing an exciting new cross-border PEACE Academy programme in Belfast and Sligo, funded by the Special EU Programme Body (SEUPB) PEACEPLUS programme https://www.seupb.eu/
The aim of this new three-year programme, is to deliver and evidence a PEACE Academy pathway of engagement, learning, social action and employability that will inspire young people from communities in Northern Ireland and Ireland to create shared experiences and build a long-term response to sectarianism, racism and hate on a cross community and cross border basis.
KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role will:
§ Establish and develop our new PEACE Academy Programme in partnership with Glentoran FC and Sligo Rovers FC together with a network of grass-root partners, as well as community policing and other strategic stakeholders.
§ Line manage a new programme staff team including 2x Regional Coordinators, a part time Training Lead, part time Monitoring Officer, a part time Admin Officer and a part time Finance Officer as well as sessional staff.
§ Lead and manage a three-year cross border and cross community youth and community development programme engaging Catholic / Nationalist / Republican (CNR), Protestant/ Unionist/ Loyalist (PUL), and newcomer communities.
§ Oversee the development of sessions which utilise youth culture as a platform for personal development, working with your staff team to design, deliver and manage engaging sessions and opportunities utilising music and the creative arts, sport, and digital media.
§ Develop, and oversee the delivery of our youth development pathway across both regions, including twice weekly sessions, workshops, seminars and accredited training pathways, mentoring, cross-border events and initiatives, careers events and pathways with a range of commercial partners, and strategic stakeholder engagement.
§ Quality assure the delivery of sessions and outputs linked to the personal development of young people.
§ Encourage and support the involvement of volunteers from the local community.
§ Develop positive relationships with key strategic partners involved in the project and ensure links are made and information shared with appropriate agencies.
§ Work closely with our CEO and Director for Ireland & Northern Ireland on the strategic positioning and development of the Foundation and the legacy of the PEACE Academy programme.
§ Work with our Director of Operations to establish and implement a robust monitoring, evaluation and learning framework for the programme with key data capture tools in place from the outset.
§ Be responsible for the delivery of specified targets for the programme through producing regular action plans and work programmes, ensuring that all project planning, monitoring, and evaluation procedures are implemented and adhered to.
§ Ensure all monitoring data is captured and recorded against targets ensuring funder reports are produced and meetings attended as and when required.
§ Ensure all administrative and financial functions of the programme are conducted in accordance with funder requirements
§ Work with our Directors on the financial and wider reporting of the programme as required by our funder.
§ Work with an external monitoring agency to ensure their independent impact evaluation is completed alongside our own internal monitoring.
§ Work with our Director of Development on shaping and implementing a communications strategy for the PEACE Academy.
§ Keep up to date with local and regional trends in sports/arts for social change and work with young people.
§ Actively represent Rio Ferdinand Foundation at working groups, initiatives, and events.
§ Assist and contribute to the on-going development and strategy of the Rio Ferdinand Foundation’s work in Sligo and Belfast as well as across the island of Ireland.
§ Develop and maintain key relationships with partners from across various sectors including, statutory, private, business and third sectors.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
· Work flexibly where appropriate on evening, weekends and during school holidays to ensure full and supportive delivery of the programme.
· Undertake new training to develop work related skills and knowledge
· Undertake any other related responsibilities commensurate with the evolving objectives of the post and the evolution of the Foundation, as may reasonably be requested

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
§ Relevant academic/industry qualifications: e.g. Project Management, Youth Work, Certificate in Community Sports Work (CCSW), Arts Practitioner, etc.
§ Ideally educated to degree standard or equivalent through experience
§ An appropriate qualification relevant to working with young people
§ Sports, Arts or Digital Media qualification (desirable)
Experience
§ Have at least five years’ experience of working with disaffected young people
§ Have at least three years’ experience of supervising and managing staff
§ A proven track record of forming productive relationships with a wide variety of organisations and individuals from diverse backgrounds and multi-agency co-ordination
§ Planning, delivering, and managing community focused, social inclusion initiatives, ideally working with local authorities, police, sports clubs and youth justice groups
§ Experience of a wide range of communication media and confident in delivering presentations, developing proposals, and writing reports for varied audiences
§ Experience of working on a multi-partner project
§ A good understanding of community engagement projects
§ Experience of campaigns, youth social action programming and event management
§ Experience of managing an SEUPB Programme or similar (desirable)
Knowledge
§ A thorough understanding of government policies and plans for community sport and creative arts, along with relevant opportunities for young people’s development
§ Understanding of the issues facing young people across the island of Ireland
§ A working knowledge and understanding of the barriers to personal development in areas of deprivation

The role
We are looking for an energetic and proactive individual to join our friendly team. As Research Manager of Patient Programmes, you'll have a crucial role in advancing our mission. A central focus of this role is to develop and lead patient-centred educational programs, webinars, and content that ensure patients are well-informed, actively engaged, and empowered throughout their journey. You will also play a key role in strengthening the Foundation’s connection with patients and advocacy groups, ensuring their voices are meaningfully reflected in our research agenda and broader mission. A critical and growing area of work for the Foundation is the systematic gathering and use of patient insights and data. This role will help shape and deliver that work, ensuring that lived experience informs everything we do, from research to support initiatives.
You will also lead the project management of our scientific events from planning through to delivery, ensuring they run smoothly, on time, and within budget. You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, engaging events that foster collaboration and advance knowledge in the field.
Key responsibilities
Strengthening patient engagement and education
- Education: Lead the delivery of impactful, patient-centred educational initiatives such as webinars, polls, and video content to inform and empower people living with FL, their families, and carers, and align with the Foundation’s mission to accelerate progress toward cure.
- Strategy Support: Support the Director of Patient and Clinical Research Programmes to develop and implement a long-term patient strategy that drives lasting impact and supports the Foundation’s mission to find a cure.
- Partnership Development: Build and maintain strong relationships with FL patients, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to ensure patient perspectives shape our programmes and research priorities with a clear line of sight to cure.
- Insights: Lead the systematic collection and analysis of patient insights and data to inform Foundation strategy, research funding, programme design and acceleration to cure.
- Strengthen the Patient Voice and Community Engagement: Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to ensure the patient voice is heard and reflected in content, using accessible language and social media to drive engagement and connection across the FL community. Champion the integration of lived experience across the Foundation’s work, helping to ensure that real-world needs and voices are reflected in our outputs and outcomes.
- Impact Measurement and Evaluation: Support in the design and lead the delivery of impact measurement frameworks to assess the effectiveness of patient engagement, education initiatives, and programme outcomes.
Planning and management of scientific events
- Scientific Event Management: Lead the end-to-end project management of scientific events, conferences, and symposiums, ensuring smooth execution, timely delivery, and alignment with strategic goals.
- Patient Voice Integration: Ensure the patient voice is actively integrated into event planning and content, fostering meaningful collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and the patient community.
- Event Content Development and Impact Reporting: Coordinate development of workshop and conference materials, and support comprehensive outcome reporting to capture key insights and inform future initiatives.
Other duties
- Collaborate with the fundraising team to develop materials for engaging donors. Provide research insights and data to support fundraising efforts, grants and donor communication.
- Work in alignment with the Foundation’s values and maintain the reputation and standing of the Foundation.
- Ensure confidentiality is always maintained and adhere to General Data Protection Regulations across all areas of work.
- Carry out any other duties within the scope and purpose of the role as requested by their line manager.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking an energetic and empathetic individual with a proven track record of working closely with patient communities, particularly within cancer or related health fields. The ideal candidate will be passionate about amplifying the patient voice and ensuring lived experience drives research and education efforts.
Key attributes include:
Essential criteria:
- A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the cancer or a related field.
- BSc essential, Masters degree/PhD in the medical or related field desirable.
- Experience leading patient-centred initiatives, educational programmes, or events that inform and engage the patient community.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate closely with leadership to develop and implement long-term patient strategies that create meaningful, lasting impact.
- Solid understanding of clinical research and how patient insights can accelerate progress toward improved treatments and cures.
- Experience in project management and coordinating multifaceted programmes or events.
- Strong relationship-building skills with patient communities, advocacy groups, industry and other diverse stakeholders to effectively incorporate patient perspectives into programme design and research priorities. Experience in qualitative or mixed methods research desirable.
- Experience in systematically collecting, analysing, and applying patient insights and data to inform organisational strategy, research funding decisions, and programme development.
- Passion for championing patient lived experience and ensuring it is embedded across all aspects of organizational work, from research to education and support initiatives.
- Likely to have worked in non-profit sector or medical research sector.

This is a full-time role with working hours generally surround 9-5 Monday to Friday. It should be noted that some events will take place over weekends and Bank Holidays when your presence will be required, which will be compensated with time in lieu.

Who we are

What we do: we partner with schools, universities and businesses to run face-to-face and virtual coaching programmes for disadvantaged young people with relatable role models who are just a few years ahead in their life journey, we help raise their confidence, independence, resiliance and attainment. Our coahes are typically undergraduate volunteers or senior pupils in schools who we train and support to become effective coaches.
The Challenge
By the age of 5, 43% of disadvantaged young people have not reached a good level of literacy and numeracy.
57% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary schools without reaching the expected standard in reading and maths.
A disadvantaged child is 50% less likely to achieve passes in GCSE English and Maths.
Only 16% of Free School Meal eligible young people attend university, compared to more than 75% of those who attend an independent school.
1 in 3 young people frpm disadvantaged backgrounds are not in any form of sustained education, apprenticship or employment five years after their GCSEs.
1 in 5 undergraduates from disadvantaged backgrounds don't complete their degree, double the rate for the most advantaged.
Those in elite occupations from disadvantaged backgrounds earn £6,400 per year less in the same role, and take 25% longer to gain a promotion.
Our Impact
We have been delivering coaching programmes across England since 2014, supporting over 15,000 young people in that time. We have a small but growing number of programmes directly coaching undergraduates from underrepresented backgrounds (our Lifecycle programme). However, the majority of our work and impact takes place in schools, involving us training undergraduates (our Core programme) or senior pupils (our Peer to Peer programme) to be coaches to younger pupils.
We are proud that our programmes demonstrate consistently strong impact on the outcomes most closely associated with improving social mobility: attainment, social & emotional development, and school attendance.
Our most recent independent evaluation found:
Increases in maths (11.1%) and English (5.1%) attainment.
Significant improvements (min 8%) in metacognition, self-efficacy, and motivation.
Persistently absent pupils’ school attendance increased by 11%!

Role description
In the 25/26 academic year, we will be expanding our work significantly, supporting close to 3,000 young people from Cornwall to Northumberland. The majority of this growth will be through a one-year project we are running in partnership with the Education Endowment Foundation.
This project is a randomised control trial (RCT) of our Peer to Peer coaching programme, where we will be working with an additional 50 new secondary schools. We have seen consistently strong impact from this programme on the attainment, social & emotional development, and school attendance of disadvantaged young people for many years. This EEF supported RCT now gives us the opportunity to test this impact at significant scale, specifically on the maths attainment, maths self-efficacy, and school attendance of disadvantaged Y10 and Y7 pupils (see here for more details).
To support with this delivery, we are looking to recruit additional fixed-term (October 2025 - July 2026) Programme Managers, both full and part time, in the following regions:

You will have end-to-end ownership of your own allocation of programmes, which may involve a mixture of Peer to Peer, Core and Lifecycle programmes. Whilst delivering our programmes you will be required to build excellent relationships with our school and university partners, support with training and developing our undergraduate volunteers, use our evaluation frameworks to assess impact, and lead on conversations related to retention and expansion.
Candidates should be able to cover all locations in the given region they are applying for, so access to a car would be an advantage, but is not essential. At times team members may be asked to travel to a location outside of their region, but this will be rare and sufficient notice and TOIL will be given where appropriate.
All roles are on fixed term contracts starting Monday 6th October 2025 and finishing 31st July 2026. The majority of direct delivery in schools will begin early November. The first few weeks in the role will combine a mixture of induction, training, programme observations, programme set up, and volunteer recruitment for our Core programmes.
Whilst there is the potential for a permanent role beyond the length of this project, this will be based on our levels of school retention and business development, and so cannot be guaranteed.

Essential characteristics and experience

About the Role
MSI seeks a Global Programme & Philanthropy Manager for the WISH2 WACA programme. As part of the project management team, the Global Programme & Philanthropy Manager (GPPM) will contribute to the fulfilment of an MSI-led consortium’s mission, taking responsibility for the management of sub-contracts for a number of consortium partners, supporting them to deliver their commitments under the project (including payment by results KPIs), ensuring adherence to donor compliance standards, and the delivery of internal commitments under the project by MSI’s Global Support Office. In addition, the GPPM will lead project management support for a portfolio of MSI country programmes, working closely with MSI’s Africa team, and WISH2 Country Project Leads supporting consortium KPI monitoring, risk management, work-planning and monitoring.
In addition, s/he will lead on key pieces of work under the project results verification and learning component that the Evidence & Learning Partner (E&L) has responsibility for, coordinating technical inputs across key thematic areas (e.g. advocacy, social norms, disability inclusion etc…), interacting with technical leadership from within the project, coordinating Technical Working Groups and providing technical leadership where appropriate.
The role will be based either in London or Dakar.

- Ability to travel up to 4 weeks a year.
To perform this role, you’ll need the following experience:
- Experience of managing FCDO donor funded projects preferable, or government/institutional donor (multi-country desirable), including project monitoring and reporting against payment deliverables, proactive risk management and escalation (essential)
- Experience in writing and editing reports, or externally facing project information for donors or other external stakeholders (essential)
- Financial management experience including budgeting and budget tracking (essential)
- Demonstrable experience managing complex relationships across organisations and across countries (essential)
- Proven experience working cross-team, generating consensus and support from multiple internal stakeholders and leading people through complex processes (essential)
- Experience in delivering capacity building support and skills development of others in either a technical area or project management skills, in order to meet project deliverables (essential)
Formal education/qualification
- Degree (essential) or Masters (desirable) in related subject (e.g. public health, international development or related field).

Location: London, UK (minimum of 2 days per week in the office) or Dakar, Senegal
Full-time: 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday.
Contract type: 12 – 18 month fixed term contract (extension possible dependent on funding).
Salary: £40,000 - £51,000 per annum for UK based candidates. Discretionary bonus + benefits. For all other locations, the salary will be banded within the national context.
Salary band: BG 9
